No, but if you read the full body of research on it, it is quite amazing. The Canadian Medical Board even attempted to provide full endorsement for it. Of course, it's inexpensive, based on herbs and can't be Patented so you can be sure the drug company pressure to keep the decades of formal research on ESSIAC very quiet.
2 :
Essaic tea has been "knocked" by accepted medicine for decades defying a huge amount of anecdotal evidence supporting its benefits. If you are looking for alternative cancer treatments in particular I suggest you research Essaic on the net. I also strongly suggest you also research Gumbi Gumbi which is a totally naturally occuring tree from Australia. As opposed to combining herbal products in an attempt to enhance the medicinal qualities of each part and create an engineered product, Gumbi Gumbi or Gumbi leaf tea seems to produce fantastic results as a stand alone cancer treatment.
3 :
I've used Essiac tea for years now, but I combine it with calendula herb, and european mistletoe - all three are known cancer fighters and I mix them together in a tea ball and drink it each day. I had non-hodgkins lymphome and one of the tumors seen on a CT scan disappeared by the next scan after I started drinking it. I've recommended it to my patients (my version) and every one of them has had tumors go down, or not had to go through radiation or chemotherapy due to progress measured by their MDs. The best company is olivesoils.com which is a great online store, very cheap and sells in bulk. They also have an ebay store. I don't make essiac in the classic way but it's worked great for me and others. Best.

I don't know a whole lot about ESSIAC, however, if you're looking for an alternative cancer treatment, then look into Himalayan Goji juice from Freelife. The goji berry itself is high in antioxidents. What ends up happening is the juice will balance your PH levels and increase your alkaline level so your body is no longer acidic and cancer cannot survive. I personally know of two people with cancer who have taken this and now neither of them have cancer anymore. The one guy was given 6 months to live and started taking the Goji juice, with an increase in recommended dossage, and withing 90 days there was no trace of cancer anymore. It takes at least 90 days for the body to completely flush itself out, but sometimes some people see results within only a couple days. This is good for all different health issues. Here's a couple wesites to check out: http://gojihealthstories.com/ http://ezinearticles.com/?Leukemia-Lymphoma-Cancer-And-Himalayan-Goji-Juice-Shows-Positive-Results-in-Cancer-Research&id=463488 If you have any further questions on this or need to know where to purchase it, please contact the gentleman through this website http://joshpulver.freelife.com/Redir.cfm?page=/info/welcome/goji/select_location.cfm&leftnavbarbodytable=n&hidealltop=y&showfooter=n He's who I order from and is very knowledgeable about this product. Good luck!

My daughter doesn't have cancer, but she has Lupus which has caused her internal organs to be attacked. I started her on Essiac about four months ago and it certainly has improved her ability to tolerate the pain from the inflammation. Her blood results have shown slight improvement as well

how long can a woman live without treatment for Cervical cancer

how long can a woman live without treatment for Cervical cancer?
If this person was told 3 years ago she had cervical cancer would she be sick or would she be okay or would she be dead?

That depends on the stage of cancer she was at when first diagnosed. If you have more question, u can post them in: http://med50.blogspot.com/2010/04/patient-education-program.html
2 :
It is rare to die of this disease, contrary to popular opinion. It used to be far worse problem. Drug companies have popularized this issue in order to sell vaccinations and other useless things. Normally, the body's immune system gets rid of it within about 2 years and only about 4% of the total number of viruses that cause this cause the cancer. She should see a doctor to monitor the situation, but not get too overwhelmed with the possibilities until she has a good understanding of her condition and there are lots of options open to her. Additionally, she should be working on her overall health regimen and seeing a nutritionist to focus on making her healthy. Treating the symptoms and not her health only results in "MAKE BELIEVE HEALTH." good luck to you
3 :
It would depend on what 'stage' it was at 3 yrs ago at diagnosis & how slow or fast growing it is. Edit: low grade cell 'changes' like CIN1 can sometimes be left without treatment as long as it's kept an eye on but moderate (CIN2) & high (CIN3) would require treatment to prevent it from becoming invasive cancer.
4 :
It depends on the type of cervical cancer and the stage at diagnosis . . the problem is metastasis which is the advanced stage. With metastasis the cancer is no longer confined to the cervical area and is now traveling through the blood stream and can contaminate the rest of the body . . new cancer colonies made up of malignant cervical cells can lodge anywhere in the body . . in the liver, lungs, bones, or even the brain. Eventually the disease will overwhelm the body. Everyone is an individual, though, so it is difficult to know 'how long' anyone will or will not live with or without treatment. In general, once cervical cancer is stage IV the prognosis drops to about 15 percent chance of survival. Compare this to treatment for early stage cervical cancer which is about 90 percent chance of survival if treated early. So . . it really depends on the individual women and what she was told three years ago . . however, if she has untreated advanced cervical cancer than the outlook is grim. A very public figure who had cervical cancer and passed away was reality star Jade Goody who was finally diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2008 and died a year later. She had on and off medical issues starting in 2000, but was diagnosed originally with 'early stage' cervical cancer . . the disease spread rapidly to her liver, bowels, and groin area. In 2002 she had a pap smear indicating the cells were abnormal . . but it wasn't until 2008 that she experienced problems bad enough to seek medical help . . and she died from advanced disease less than a year later. So . . you do the math. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jade_Goody

Parasitic Asylum seekers and British woman who cant get cancer treatment

Parasitic Asylum seekers and British woman who cant get cancer treatment ?
I have just seen a item of the news regarding a british mother of three who cannot get cancer treatment on the national health partly because the drug is new and how the cost is prohibitive. Frankly this disgusts me a country who can squander funds for scrounging wasters like asylum seekers who culturally have nothing in common with the continent and country they are coming to. The average tax payer is getting a raw deal why should we be providing for another continents people, when the immediate local country is where they should go to claim asylum e.g. iraqis to saudi, etc.

I'm guessing you didn't see the documentary on Polish Migrant workers on Channel 4 a couple of nights ago right? It was rather eye opening and informative, Isn't amazing how the tabliods label anyone "different" as an asylum seeking "Scrounging wasters" and its readers take it at face value thinking that is the truth and nothing but the truth, if you actually researched with and open eye without biasism or anything of the kind you might learn a few things contrary to what you might think you know... About the woman who can't get treatment for cancer...do you know WHY they can't give it to her? Just because she has cancer and a mother of 3 she automatically achieves sainthood? For the record that was not a slur on the woman, just saying you should consider ALL the facts before jumping to conclusions, its not as if the NHS/Government is tell all cancer patients to sod off or anything like that, its probably the treatment that she requires hasn't been tested in the uk or isn't considered legal or even available on the NHS (not all of them are) so the NHS can't just up at it and give it to her, far too much red tape to cross through before anything can be done, please put these facts into consideration.

Cancer treatment - Does it cost the hospitals more to treat patients

Cancer treatment - Does it cost the hospitals more to treat patients?
physically (Canada - free health care) using technology when compared to patients spending money on pharmaceutical drugs. I dont know if that made sense. Practically do you agree with his hospitals spend more to treat patients using technology than patients spend on pills at pharmacies

Cancer treatment has all modalities. Surgery, Radiotherapy, chemotherapy and others like immunotherapy. Surgery and Radiotherapy need a lot of infrastructure in the hospital. All modalities need specialists with great learning and experience to treat. It is not just technology versus pills. Most of the cancers need a combined approach for treatment. All are expensive in one way or the other.

Is there a cancer treatment that doesn't involve radiation and or chemo

Is there a cancer treatment that doesn't involve radiation and or chemo?

Cancer - 7 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Often cancers are treated by surgery alone. My dad had a minor case of prostate surgery, and they were able to treat it simply by removing the tumor and then monitoring it. Is that what you meant? And there are other "new age" treatments, but you would have to a be a suicidal fool to try them.
2 :
Doug - The answer is Yes! That treatment is surgical excision of a single cancer mass when there is no other visible tumor in the body. Sometimes, even the primary cancer and a single metastasis (spread) can be treated with surgery alone. Wider spread in the body usually leads to chemotherapy. Often chemo- or radiation therapy is done to increase the remaining quality of life even though it may not prolong life. Results are usually unpredictable as to how effective the treatment will be for any one person.
3 :
There are lots of them. Generally referred to as alternative modalities. Naturpaths and Homeopaths have been using them sucessfully for years. One of the oldest and most popular is a formulation called Essiac. Commonly available as a tea or a tincure 1000s attest to its effectiveness. It is also low cost and entirely without dangerous chemicals, which means no dangerous side-effects. There are any number of good reference sites including: www.essiaccancer.com and www.thesecretsofeden.com
4 :
yes...it is up to you.
5 :
Surgery of course, and you can google monoclonal antibodies but they are generally used with chemo.
6 :
It depends on the kind of cancer you are referring to. If you just want to know in general surgery is usually the best chance for cure with solid tumor cancers. Other treatments are immunotherapy and hormonal therapy.
7 :
Years ago my grandma had stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, and colon cancer that had all reached throughout her body and into her lymph nodes. Her doctors only gave her a few months to live - if that. So she made out her obituary and got ready to die. She also made up a concoction which proved very useful and actually healed the cancer - proven. She used a half cup of kerosine (kerosene) and a half cup of olive oil and mixed it together. She then soaked a towel in it and placed it directly on her skin. - I would warn that if you do decide to do this please do not be by an open flame or smoke. It took about 2 weeks before she started getting any relief. But it did cure her. She is now 95 years old and still kicking. The only side effect of this I know of is the bad smell of kerosine. If you have any further questions please email me at pjdelaney@live.com as I would like to be able to help as many people as I can.

3 :
Lung cancer is predominantly caused by smoking. The individual does not necessarily have to be a smoker. Second hand smoke has been well documented to cause lung cancers. People who spouses are smokers are at an incredible higher risk for lung cancer than other groups. Other causes of lung cancer include: excessive radiation (i.e. x-rays), toxic agents other than tobacco (i.e. aerosols). Individuals who have a close family member diagnosed with cancer are also at higher risk. Treat options are limited. There are several types of lung cancer. Some types are more aggressive than others. For example, small cell carcinoma is much more lethal than large cell carcinoma. Also, you need to consider the size of the tumor. Small tumors can be surgically removed followed with focused radiation therapy. Large tumors are usually first treated with radiation therapy to reduce the size of the tumor. This is followed by surgical removal of the tumor. Afterwards, the patient is treated with chemotherapy. If the cancer has metastasized then options are very limited. High dosed chemotherapy is probably the best option in these cases.

Lung cancer is mostly caused by smoking or secondhand smoke if you are around a heavy smoker. Can also be caused by pollution in the air in people who are genetically predisposed to react to certain chemicals. why is cancer treatment dangerous for non cancerous cells

why is cancer treatment dangerous for non cancerous cells?

Cancer - 6 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Because the idea of treatment is to destroy cancerous cells but the medicine can't distinguish between them really so it attacks normal cells too.
2 :
Chemotherapy is designed to kill fast growing cells like cancer, but it can also kill healthy cells, and the reason people lose their hair is because it is also a fast growing cell.
3 :
My chemo didn't hurt my non cancerous cells... It affects the cells with the fastest turnover so, like the cells of the heart wouldn't be damaged because cell turnover in the heart is very slow. I didn't even lose my hair from the chemo.
4 :
Because it is toxic.
5 :
Clearly the answer is actually quite complicated, but basically, older cancer treatments tended to be hard on non-cancerous cells because of they targeted necessary components for all cells to divide, not just the cancerous cells. As such, the cells that divided rapidly were more susceptible, and were thus killed off. Over time, however, extensive research has produced more targeted therapies that are able to select out certain markers on some cancer cell lines that are overexpressed compared with healthy cells, thereby limiting toxicity compared with older, less specific agents. Still other medications are able to target a particular type of cell (like a B cell for example), sparing many other types of cells from destruction. Which therapy will work depends on the cancer and certain cell markers on those cancer cells, in addition to specific patient factors and prior treatment attempts.
6 :
There are 3 major ways of treating cancer. First off cancer cells occur in most everyone, but our Immune Cells recognize them and take them out as foreign cells. Our Immune cells recognize them by the markers on their cell surface. Cancer cells can be quite devious though, The can become virtually "stealth" cells and avoid detection by our Immune System. Cancer cells are not like normal cells. Normal cells arise, do their work, replace themselves by cell division and then die. (Normal cells undergo a kind of cell-suicide termed Apoptosis). Cancer Cells, on the other hand arise, replace themselves and never die, they do not undergo Apoptosis, in cancer research we refer to them as immortals. They continue to replace themselves and each time they do they give rise to other cancer cells and so on and so on. Cancer cells are "rude", they grow on top of each other, essentially forming tumors. The reason that cancer treatment can be dangerous for normal (noncancerous) cells is that Cancer Cells still have some cell surface markers that designate them as being normal. ~~ in other words they evade your natural immune response that is hunting down "foreign" invaders. (such as virus, bacteria, etc). So how do we knock out the cancer cells without knocking out the normal cells? We are talking about targeting identification markers at molecular level on Cancer Cells that are different (distinct) from markers on our Normal Cells. We are not that sophisticated at being able to target only the cancer cells with no damage occurring to the normal cells. Cancer treatments are currently: 1) Cut the Cancer Tumor out ~~ we call that Surgery. If a surgical Cancer Doc, (surgical oncologist) cuts out a tumor, they often take additional tissue surrounding the tumor so as not to miss any "escapers"; 2) Burn the Cancer out ~~ we call that Radiation. Often this is also done following surgery to eliminate any "escapers". 3) Poison the Cancer out ~~ we call that chemotherapy. These are cancer drugs that target cells that undergo cell replication continually, Cancer cells replicate themselves at a high rate, unfortunately so do human hair cells and human intestinal cells ~~ thats why chemotherapy and radiation therapy can cause temporary (but extreme) nausea from loss of cells that line the digestive tract; as well as loss of hair on the head and body. We are working on finding a marker that is specific to Cancer Cells and not Normal Cells. Then we could design selective therapies that would take out the cancer and not harm the normal cells. Perhaps in our lifetime...

How long can someone survive with undiagnosed breast cancer with no treatment

How long can someone survive with undiagnosed breast cancer with no treatment?

Cancer - 2 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I'd like you to learn the research below: One way to measure the harm breast cancer does, and the progress medicine makes against the disease, is to look at how long women survive after being diagnosed. A person who survives five years after diagnosis with some types of cancer is likely to live out a normal lifespan. But this is not true with breast cancer. More than half the women whose breast cancer comes back have survived more than five years after their original diagnosis. While 10-year survival rates give a better measure of lifetime survival, breast cancer can recur at any time. Ultimately, what matters is bringing the death rate down. Researchers have taken a detailed look at characteristics of women in five Bay Area counties who were diagnosed with breast cancer between 1988 and 1992. The researchers tracked who survived and who died until 2001. Women who died from causes other than breast cancer were taken out of the statistics. They were not counted, for this research, as either dying or surviving. These figures for the five Bay Area counties do not necessarily reflect the picture for the entire state. Here are some things the researchers found: 1) African American and Hispanic Women Have Lower Rates of Survival 2) Young Women Are Less Likely to Survive Unlike many other types of cancer, breast cancer is more deadly when it strikes younger women. 3) Women Diagnosed at Early Stages Are More Likely to Survive A woman whose breast cancer is detected before it has spread beyond its original location is more likely to survive than a woman whose cancer was detected at a later stage. However, some women with breast cancer are not helped by current treatment methods. If their cancer is detected at an early stage, they will have a longer survival time after diagnosis, but their lives may not actually last any longer than they would have with a later diagnosis. A woman whose tumor is going to end her life by age 50, because no treatment will be effective, is not helped if her treatment begins at age 42 rather than at age 48. However, if she is diagnosed and begins treatment at age 42, she will be counted as having survived longer than five years. If she is diagnosed and begins treatment at age 48, she won't. For this reason, widespread detection of breast cancer at earlier stages can make survival figures look better than they actually are. 4) Hormone Receptors Make A Difference Hormone receptors are proteins found in some breast tumors. Two types, estrogen receptors and progesterone receptors, allow the tumors to take in the hormones estrogen and progesterone. These hormones normally circulate in women's blood. Tumors that have these receptors need the hormones to live and grow. If a woman's tumor is positive for hormone receptors, it improves her chance of surviving. After five years, 91 percent of women whose tumors test positive for hormone receptors are alive, compared with 80-81 percent of women whose tumors test negative for these receptors. After ten years, 84- 85 percent of women whose tumors have hormone receptors are alive, compared to 75-76 percent of women whose tumors do not have these receptors. There are two reasons for the difference in survival. First, tumors that do not contain hormone receptors are more likely to be able to spread to other parts of the body. Second, there are better treatments to reduce recurrence of receptor-positive tumors. 5) Income and Education Affect Survival Women with higher incomes and more education, who are more likely to get breast cancer to begin with, are also more likely to survive breast cancer than women with lower incomes and less education. The main reason seems to be that these women get diagnosed at earlier stages of the disease. For more about this, see the section of this booklet, "Income, Education, and Breast Cancer." How This Research Was Done Researchers used information about 9,765 women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer between 1988 and 1992 in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco and San Mateo counties. The information was collected by the federal government's National Cancer Institute as part of its Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) program. Information in this section comes from Chapter 11 of Breast Cancer in California, 2003, "Breast Cancer Survival in the San Francisco Bay Area," by Cynthia O'Malley, Ph.D. and Gem Le, M.S.***
2 :
It depends on the particular tumor, its pathology. Some breast cancers are frighteningly fast (Inflammatory Breast Cancer), and some may grow undetected for years. The good news is, mammograms and other screening tests are extremely effective at catching breast cancer early. It is highly recommended that mammograms be performed by facilities that specialize in breast imaging, as there can be a vast difference in the rates of detection if the facility is inexperienced at breast imaging.

What are angio suppressive agents and what are thier potential use in the treatment of cancer?

Medicine - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Firstly angiogenesis is the process by which blood vessels are formed. Therefore angio suppressive agents block the formation of blood vessels. Tumors are aggressivly growing clusters of cells which need a blood supply. It is thought that if you suppress the growth of the vessels leading to the tumor with suppressive drugs, like thalidomide for example, you will slow the growth of the tumor. ps. the website below is kind of complex but very informative

What would be a sucessfull PSA reduction after radiation treatment for Prostate Cancer

What would be a sucessfull PSA reduction after radiation treatment for Prostate Cancer?
72 Year old male with a psa of 7.3. If he were to recieve radiation, what would be a great radiation result if you are only measuring the PSA score?
Cancer - 1 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
For a man of 72 then a PSA count of up to 4 or 5 can be normal with no cancer. It is likely that after radiation therapy the PSA will go below that level, possibly to less than 1. The key thing is how long it stays that low and whether alternative (probably hormone) therapy is necessary to keep levels down. With a PSA of 7.3 the cancer is likely to be confined to the prostate and therefore far easier to control. Many more people die with prostate cancer than from it. Think of it like a disease that needs to be controlled like diabetes. Good luck!

why are you in a position to determine 'APPROPRIATE" treatment? Are you a Dr yourself, or a parent to this child? In most cases, medical treatment is a decision between the parent and Dr. That is part of parental rights. The only authority who has any other rights is child protective services, and that might not go far.

Will ins. company cover egg harvesting, if necessary due to cancer treatment

Will ins. company cover egg harvesting, if necessary due to cancer treatment?
My sister is 24 yrs. old and just had her cancerous thyroid removed. She now has to undergo radioactive iodine treatment, which may damage her eggs. She has a 2 month old daughter. Her & her fiance desire more children in their future, biological, if possible. And yes, she's very blessed and thankful for her daughter. But that doesn't quench a mommy's desire for more children. And yes, her focus is on her health, and getting better. But she has to prepare for the future, as well. So my question is, has anyone heard of insurance companies covering at least part of the cost of harvesting eggs, if it's for a reason such as cancer treatment? Thank you in advance. If you intend to leave nasty comments about her having 1 child and she should leave it at that, please don't bother then. Thanks. :-)

All insurance policies are different and your sister needs to look hers over to see if this is included. She can also call and ask them about it. There is an organization that can help her sort all of this out called Fertile Hope: http://www.fertilehope.org/ Good luck. My son no longer has this type of option. So, I would encourage her to pursue all her options before treatment.
2 :
Did her doctor tell her it could damage her eggs? I also had thyroid cancer and radioactive iodine (and have one child) and was specifically told by two doctors that specialize in this area that it would not cause infertility. There are several studies that support this (referenced below). I was told to wait at least 6 months, but ideally 12 before trying to get pregnant again since any residual radioactive iodine could result in an increased risk of miscarriage. I would urge your sister to investigate further. Unless there is scientific evidence that the RAI will lead to infertility it's unlikely an insurance company will cover any costs for egg harvesting. Best of luck with your sister's treatment.

Do what the doctor advises, but make sure the doctor also knows about the "homeopathic" drugs because they may be interfaring with the treatment.
2 :
I'm sorry to hear that your uncle is doing poorly. It's hard to tell what his prognosis is without more information. Here is a link to more than you probably want to know about lung cancer: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/types/lung Homeopathic drugs are given in such low concentrations that they shouldn't interfere with any other treatment. Good luck.
3 :
Your uncle might tolerate radiation better with Novo Two. N0V-002 (novo-two) is a New adjunct medication used with standard chemotherapy tested for approval in the USA. Increased the ability of patients to tolerate Chemo to the full 100% Increased the Cancer Survival rate by 80% They are accepting some patients under FDA Fast Track SPA Phase III in the USA. See "Got the Script" message on this board, it's available outside the USA: http://messages.finance.yahoo.com/mb/NVLT.OB Novelos' pipeline of drugs is based on oxidized glutathione, a natural metabolite that is part of the glutathione pathway. This pathway is the primary determinant of intracellular redox (oxidation/reduction) potential and, as such, plays a key role in cell protection (e.g. detoxification) and in regulation of cell signaling pathways (e.g. leading to cytokine production). Novelos̢۪ lead products are believed to act, in part, via post-translational modification (glutathionylation) of critical regulatory proteins that mediate processes including immune function, cell proliferation and tumor progression (in combination with chemotherapy). They may also sensitize tumor cells to certain chemotherapeutic drugs by modifying drug detoxification processes.
4 :
My father was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2001. He went threw the chemo and the radiation and is now in remission going on five years. If that is the only treatment the doctor feel will help him and he wants to do it then do it. The chemo is a lot worse then the radiation was for my dad. Good luck
5 :
Tell the doctor about the homeopathic things he is taking. The radiation is there to help him. I would be more worried about what's in the homeopathic things than about regulated, studied and proven treatment.

The United States. Where the best technology in the world is.

is california another country?

One that cares for the patient, rather than constantly checking his back pocket.

Scott B. How does America have the best technology in the world when conservatives are doing they best to cut research funding and making a lot of research illegal? Even India is pulling ahead of us as far as medical technology goes.
6 :
They would all stay in the USA but them being liberals I want to see how many lie and say France or worse Cuba! Zandakar feel free to jump on Obama's flight to Mumbai for heart surgery! People from all over the world come here for surgery, it certainlly isn't to save money!

Germany for Cancer. France for Surgery. To get treatment at all in this country you need insurance. if you have none you don't get treated. It is called the death panels from insurance companies! And trust me, they have them. Only if they qualify for some type insurance. "The Associated Press updated 12/21/2007 6:00:05 PM ET 2007-12-21T23:00:05 GLENDALE, Calif. — The family of a 17-year-old girl who died hours after her health insurer reversed a decision and said it would pay for a liver transplant plans to sue the company, their attorney said Friday. Nataline Sarkisyan died Thursday at about 6 p.m. at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center. She had been in a vegetative state for weeks, said her mother, Hilda. Attorney Mark Geragos said he plans to ask the district attorney to press murder or manslaughter charges against Cigna HealthCare in the case. The insurer â€Å“maliciously killed her” because it did not want to bear the expense of her transplant and aftercare, Geragos said. District Attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons declined to comment on the request for murder or manslaughter charges, saying it would be inappropriate to do so until Geragos submits evidence supporting his request. The family’s â€Å“loss is immeasurable, and our thoughts and prayers are with them,” Cigna said in a news release Friday. â€Å“We deeply hope that the outpouring of concern, care and love that are being expressed for Nataline’s family help them at this time,” the company said. Nataline had been battling leukemia and received a bone marrow transplant from her brother. She developed a complication that caused her liver to fail." They do 6,000 transplants a year and have been doing them for 50 years. This is a 17 year-old who died from cancer and the death panel of Cigna denying her a transplant until she was almost dead. She DID die!

I'd stay here as long as my insurance covered it. If you conservatives succeed in pulling the plug on health care reform, there's no guarantee that it would be covered. It could happen to you too, no matter how good your plan is. If you suddenly found yourself needing very expensive surgery ($100,000 or more) they could choose to deny payment or even drop you altogether. [edit] The only kind of care hospitals are required to provide with or without payment is emergency care. Cancer treatment doesn't fall in that category. Unless you can provide a link to a reliable source showing how uninsured poor people can get cancer treatment without paying for it out of their pockets, you're the one who's lying. If you're talking about Medicare or Medicaid, that's government-funded health care and you're defeating your own argument. The poor aren't the ones with the biggest problem with insurance. They've had Medicaid for a long time. The people who need health care reform the most are the middle class, the majority of Americans. Without health care reform, your insurance company can drop you if you have a catastrophic illness, leaving you without insurance when you need it most. Even if you don't get dropped, many plans have a lifetime maximum. What would you do if you found out you needed $500,000 worth of treatment and your policy's lifetime maximum was $100,000? I'll bet you never thought of that, and honestly I didn't give it much thought either until recently, but that's essentially a death sentence. Most people couldn't even qualify for a loan for that amount. I can tell you from my own personal experience that the reform bill will make a difference there. We just had our annual open enrollment at work, and they informed us that when the provisions of the bill take effect, we will no longer have to worry about that limit. If you don't think that's important, either you're a multimillionaire or you're sorely lacking in imagination. It doesn't even have to be cancer or a major organ transplant to be extremely expensive. My father had surgery for a prolapsed heart valve a few years ago, and it would have been over $100,000 without insurance. A hip replacement (a very common operation) costs $45,000 or more. Without insurance, that could be disastrous for all but the most successful middle class workers. How many people do you know who can take that much out of their bank accounts and still have enough to pay the bills? Health care reform isn't about charity; it's about ensuring that the majority of Americans will receive the care they need without going bankrupt.
9 :
That depends. Am I employed and have good health care like 60% of Americans? Or, does my employer not provide health coverage, or I'm only part-time, or unemployed? If the latter, I'd be looking to Canada or even Mexico. Otherwise I'd be making funeral arrangements. Even though I'm part of the former, I'd probably have to sell my house to afford the bills. You are aware that it's actually cheaper to book a suite in a 5-star luxury hotel than it is to stay a night in the hospital, right? And something like heart surgery means I'm looking at six-figures just for the operation alone - all because I have insurance. The rest of my stay, not to mention the costs of recovery while I'll be unable to work, will easily reach another $100k+ And yes, that's with insurance.

Consequnce of missing a radiation treatment , for a lung cancer patient

Consequnce of missing a radiation treatment , for a lung cancer patient ?
My Aunt ( in another state ) , was "too tired" to go get her radiation treatment , of which she gets five per week . Is this going to offset her whole treatment ? She is also on chemo pills -with a slow growing cancer that is in both lungs and lymph nodes .

if she skips it, she will have big head :)
2 :
depends how many times she had missed the treatment but the medical staff knows best..but it is usually advisable to both get the radiotherapy and chemotheray altogether.
3 :
she won't have to redo the whole thing. but i think they'll prescribe something to rebalance it.
4 :
see most of the cancers of the lungs grow slowly over time...which means that the time of their diagnosis and appropriate treatment makes good sense.. In your aunt case, if the doctors have put her on both anti-cancer drugs as well as radiotherapy together, then it must have been for some specific purpose...I explain you .. Well the cancer cells though very similar to our own normal cells, exibits some peculiar metabolism rate which makes them very vulnerable to drugs against them. Also due to the same reason, the radiations used in radiotherapy specifically kills these cells..However in some cancers both can be used together and show phenominal advantage. You must understand that radiation can also kill cancer cells more easily if they are already been sensitised by prior drug therapy.. hence the answer to UR question is YES, your aunt must take both if she has been advised. In case she doesnot take, then she fails to get rid of all the cancer cells...COZ not all the cells can be killed by anti-cancer drugs alone.. So please help her in taking both on time...and hope that she get well.
5 :
She should stop the radiation. It is harmful and toxic to the body. We have reversed 54 forms of cancer with nutrition let me know if i can show you how to fight the cancer naturally.
6 :
Doctors are using both chemo and radiation to try to give your Aunt the best chance. She needs to have some one take her to her treatments, then she doesn't have to try to get herself up and going. She also needs to let her doctor know how tired she is getting. He should run a new blood test, to see if he needs to be giving her something for her blood count. Good luck and all the best to your Aunt.
7 :
Having been through the entire process myself - I recall I missed out on my radiation for almost a week as the only linear accelarater machine at the hospital broke down. I restarted my radiation and chemo at another hospital, not knowing when the machine would be repaired and the radiation could not wait. Missing out a week was ok - but I really do not imagine any doctor would even suggest that. In fact most oncologists clearly state the details of continuity for the radiation and the chemo as at the end of the ordeal - thats what is going to determine the success or failure. If your Aunts cancer has been detected in its early stages, it will more then likely be cured without too many problems. I wish her well. Caprichoso. PS - mI am not a doctor

See if there are any state funded insurance to cover her. Sorry for your situation it is a good reason why health care reform is needed so badly in this country.
2 :
you should try chaga mushroom- it is used to cure cancer in russia for a long time. research it!!!!!!
3 :
She is able to get MEDICARE @ 62.......Call the Cancer Foundation in your Borough ..Call Sloan Kettington in NY ask Information for the number they can refer her to a hospital in her city and help. No one has to have cancer with no help. Also call the Susan Kolman Foundation..cancer and they will help...you can get any information by calling the Red Cross ..the Cancer Foundation.....DO it ASAP.
4 :
She must have friends, family, and a church. Holding a benefit for someone in need requires a big team effort. I can't really tell you how to do this but with help it's an idea. You can throw a big party in her honor and raise some money. You can get local businesses to donate food and use the proceeds to help. We just did this in Grotton, MA for a four year old who needs cancer treatment.
5 :
Hello: She is on SS so that means she also gets medicare which pays 80 % and as to medication there are many drug company's that she can contact to get her prescriptions at a low cost or not cost so contact ss and contact the welfare department or Help of what ever state you Live in. Help is a origination that helps with medical cost as well as with food stamps and even utility's. So go get help. We have help of southern nevada here in vegas. they also have it in every state. it is part of the welfare department.

It sounds like you are in the United States, the home of 50 million uninsured citizens forgotten by society. You have my sympathy. Your family member's hospital may have financial advisers who can suggest alternate funding sources. Try speaking with the hospital's Billing Department. Contact your state's Department of Health and inform them of the situation. They may be able to direct you to a state administered program. Your family member may be eligible for Medicaid, a state managed program which allocates federal dollars to low income people for health treatment. You can also call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345 and ask for advise. The ACS maintains a database of treatment and financial assistance programs for every state. Your family member will be eligible for Medicare when he or she turns 65, so long as they have acrued at least 40 points in the federal eligibility formula. You can contact Medicare and see what they have to say. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are facing the crisis of serious illness coupled with lack of insurance. Unfortunately, many of your fellow citizens could care less about them. Good luck.
7 :
She needs to go to the Department of Human Services and apply for medicaid. She should continue with her medical and she can tell everyone to bill her. Medicaid after approved will cover anything do to this illness. Even if it was within 90 days of her original application for services.
8 :
Be honest,It will take a while to find the ideal answer for the your question.provide a relevant resource here http://www.HealthInsuranceFree.info for your reference, hope it helps.

treatment for her2 breast cancer with small tumors

treatment for her2 breast cancer with small tumors?
I need to find out if any woman with her2 breast cancer with tiny tumors under .2 centimeters had treatment.

My sister recently had an under 2cm lump removed and lymph nodes and she starts her chemo on monday which lasts for about 6 months and then gets radiotherapy. All of this makes sure there is not cancer cells floating around the body
2 :
The size of the tumor doesn't matter. If it's small, it can still be a very aggressive, fast spreading tumor. This was mine. I had a total of 10 tumors but only one was so damn nasty, I had a bi-lateral mastectomy and 13 lymph nodes removed. Yes, if the doctor feels she needs chemo, she should not argue. My tumor was small but like a bull in a china shop. In one weeks time, I had the mammogram followed by a biopsy and 2 days after the biopsy my surgeon put me in the hospital. So now you know, it doesn't matter how small the tumor is. It can kill if not removed. Good luck and I hope your sister does well. Tell her not to wait. please.
3 :
Usually if the tumor is not big, then doctor would suggest surgery plus adjuvant chemo. But you must remember, that esp. chemo may weakened your body immune system. Take care of your DIET is most important and also eat herbs like rodent tuber plant juice or multivitamins to boost your body immune system.

My wife had cancer treatment in another state. Are our travel and living expenses while there tax deductible

My wife had cancer treatment in another state. Are our travel and living expenses while there tax deductible?

1 :
Assuming there are no changes to the tax laws in 2009, travel expenses that are necessary for medical treatments are tax deductible, provided that medical expenses, including mileage, lodging, and meals are large enough to meet the threshold.
2 :
Tax deductible only above 7.5% of your aggregate gross income. I had plenty of heath care cost last year but that threshold is high, I couldn't use it.
3 :
I am pretty sure we deducted my travel /living expense from taxes for my chemo and radiation therapy. Hope you and your wife are doing good now. God bless you.
4 :
check out the IRS publication link below. Max is correct, Medical deductions above 7.5% of your adjusted Gross Income can be deducted if you itemize on schedule A/B. You can include 19 cents per mile driving and lodging of up to $50 per person (the patient and one other companion). the lodging cannot be extravagent and there can be no combined pleasure of other business included in the trip. the treatment center must also be a licensed medical facility.

Can the Keratin treatment cause cancer

Can the Keratin treatment cause cancer?
I got the keratin treatment in March and it contained as one of the ingredients 5% formaldehyde which is said to cause cancer. When I was getting it done I didn't know about containing formaldehyde and that it can cause cancer until I did some research about it. What are the chances of a person getting cancer from having the keratin treatment done with 5% formaldehyde?

Any cancer not treated will not survive once it starts to spread. As far as how long no one can give you an exact time.
2 :
A lot less time than they will survive with treatment. This is a question better addressed by your treating Dr who kniows exactly what you are dealing with.

Cervical Cancer Treatment Cost

Cervical Cancer Treatment Cost?
My mother is about to start cervical cancer treatment (stage II) in California. She doesn't live here, so she is a "self-pay" patient. The treatment, according to the hospital, will cost about $55,000, for six weekly Cisplatin infusions, 25 external and five internal radiation sessions. Can anyone give me a sense whether this number makes sense? It is extremely hard to determine real cost/price for a hospital...any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cancer - 2 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
That sounds about right. Its difficult to explain costs. Depending if she has to have an IV that costs money then the meds cost money too having the nurse there too costs money just in case something goes wrong. Medicine isn't cheap. My tonsillectomy cost me well over $1,000 I have forgotten the exact price.
2 :
I went through this same regimen 2 1/2 years ago and I can tell you that $55,000 sounds like a bargain. I stopped counting at $100,000 - fortunately we have good insurance. Please, please, please have your mom get a second, third or fourth opinion on the internal radiation. I stopped them at two and demanded a hysterectomy instead. Those two caused permanent damage to my surrounding organs - I truly believe that if I had had the recommended five I would be dead by now. As it is I will never be the same. A year and a half after my cancer treatment ended I had 80 hyperbaric oxygen treatments to partially heal the radiation damage, then got severe cataracts from the oxygen, which then required lens implants. It's been a downward spiral since those treatments. The doctors warned me about possible damage, but brushed it off as unlikely and easily fixed. Not true! I'm not saying she shouldn't have them - just question, question, question, research, research, research and then make an informed choice. And she should never forget that she is ultimately the one in charge of her treatment decisions. It's easy to get caught up the medical machine and just let the Drs. call all the shots. After the first few weeks I told all of my Drs "You advise, I decide." On a positive note, I came through the chemo with no nausea even though it's a well-known side effect of cisplatin. The anti-nausea drugs they have now are very effective (Emend in particular). And I never lost my hair. My major problem during treatment was extreme fatigue and weakness; the problems relating to the radiation didn't show up for six months. Good luck and I wish you and your mom the best...
