See if there are any state funded insurance to cover her. Sorry for your situation it is a good reason why health care reform is needed so badly in this country.

She must have friends, family, and a church. Holding a benefit for someone in need requires a big team effort. I can't really tell you how to do this but with help it's an idea. You can throw a big party in her honor and raise some money. You can get local businesses to donate food and use the proceeds to help. We just did this in Grotton, MA for a four year old who needs cancer treatment.

It sounds like you are in the United States, the home of 50 million uninsured citizens forgotten by society. You have my sympathy. Your family member's hospital may have financial advisers who can suggest alternate funding sources. Try speaking with the hospital's Billing Department. Contact your state's Department of Health and inform them of the situation. They may be able to direct you to a state administered program. Your family member may be eligible for Medicaid, a state managed program which allocates federal dollars to low income people for health treatment. You can also call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345 and ask for advise. The ACS maintains a database of treatment and financial assistance programs for every state. Your family member will be eligible for Medicare when he or she turns 65, so long as they have acrued at least 40 points in the federal eligibility formula. You can contact Medicare and see what they have to say. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are facing the crisis of serious illness coupled with lack of insurance. Unfortunately, many of your fellow citizens could care less about them. Good luck.

She needs to go to the Department of Human Services and apply for medicaid. She should continue with her medical and she can tell everyone to bill her. Medicaid after approved will cover anything do to this illness. Even if it was within 90 days of her original application for services.
