How to make my father accept cancer treatment

How to make my father accept cancer treatment?
My father (62) had already one tumor removed from his bladder and another one is still on his kidney. Suddenly, he started to talk about not accepting any other surgery or any other type of cancer treatment. Obviously, he thinks there is a chance it just disappears...

tell him how much you love him
2 :
Reassure him that his family needs him and loves him. If you can convince him that you guys will miss him dearly if he gives up, then MAYBE he'll accept the treatment. If you want to find a way to force him to do it, you could say he's temproarily insane and have the treatment administered to him without his consent. But that's the extreme.
3 :
Get a survivor to talk to him!
4 :
He's in denial. Get him to see a doctor again to get a medical opinion.
5 :
You cant make him sweety... You can only tell him you support him in his decisions and hope the facts have been explained to him about his disease...
6 :
you cant make him take the treatment if he doesnt want it maybe he has excepted his death just talk it over with him ask him why he doesnt want the treatment but dont try and force him into it at the end of the day its his choice
7 :
put urself in his place this is not abt u and wat u want its abt ur father bein terminally ill....my dad had cancer and sadly passed away as there was no more the hospital cud do for him but i know even if there was he wud have said no. its the most heartbreaking thing i know but try to understand and tell him how u feel
8 :
Tact as i always say, bring him to listen to u wit love and care, remind him of childhood days, n mistakes u made which made ur parents cross, when u wont listen to them...n say tht now u r like a parent to him, n ask him to listen to u....say this very lovingly, say do it for the sake of ur child if not for urself dad.
9 :
First of all pray, secondly you have to support his decisions. I know it is hard to hear, but he may be ready to go. You might want to have clergy talk to him as well.
10 :
To begin with how much do you love your father. Tell him that the treatment is for his own good. Dont let your father assume anything like this. This is serious, tell him how much you love him and that youd prefer he accept the treatment because in the long run it will help him. My grandfather died of cancer awhile back, and you know why. Its because by the time they caught it, it was already too late for him. Dont let this situation happen to your father. Tell him that treatment can help prolong his life and maybe even help him in case it doesnt disappear. Good luck I will pray for you both
11 :
well i know how hard it must be on you my mother passed away three years ago from lung cancer. you can't make your father do something he doesn't want even if you want it for him. Ultimetly it is his decision and his alone you will just have to accept whatever his decision is
12 :
its hard to accept someone with cancer cause they are scared of the treatment cause its nothing but poisin to the system and he does not want to feel the effects of it
13 :
Tell your father how much u love him,and let him know that u don't want him to die.
14 :
My father got cancer, too. His started in the throat, then got into his lymph system and eventually spread to his lungs, where it killed him. He had a tracheotomy and a laryngectomy immediately, then started chemo and radiation. He never finished the treatments, as they were making him as sick or sicker than the cancer. He made his own choice for quality of life. He got to feeling better and started getting involved in his life again, which worked for nearly three years until the lung cancer manifested rather suddenly. He spent the last 5 months of his life bedridden. It was sad to see, and I still miss him terribly, but ultimately it was HIS decision. Your father probably doesn't think it will just disappear. Perhaps he's just tired of all the medical stuff - doctors visits, medicines, being poked and prodded, etc. Likely, he's making his peace with the disease and his eventual passing (whenever that might be, soon or late). The best thing you can do for him is support whatever decision he makes.
15 :
iTS GOING TO BE HARD TO CONVINCE HIM TO HAVE IT DONE AGAIN IF HE HAD HAD ANY COMPLICATIONS WITH THE FIRST OR MAYBE HE JUST HATES THE PROCEDURE. i FEEL YOUR PAIN MY HUSBAND HAS LIVER CANCER AND IT IS A HOPE AND PRAY TO GET HIM TO GO. HE HATES THE WAY CHEMO MAKES HIM FEEL SO HE BACKS OUT ON TREATMENTS. i HAVE TO REMIND HIM ABOUT FAMILY AND FRIENDS WHO LOVE HIM AND WANT TO SPEND TIME WITH HIM. AND ALSO HE HAS LOTS OF TIME LEFT ON THIS EARTH AND I WANT TO BE THERE WITH HIM FOR YEARS TO COME......TALK WITH HIM TELL HIM HOW MUCH YOU CARE AND PRAY TO THE LORD .
16 :
it's never easy speaking to your parent about something like this. my mother has luekemia and there are days when she feels like giving up, but i try to be there for her and push her to keep getting treatments. don't feel bad asking them to do it for you and the family. they will understand, and that means more life to share with them. good luck, ok.
17 :
(1) Yes it is absolutely correct.Though scientific world has not yet revealed, there is an unrevealed reality. (2) Meditation, being a vegetarian, always living with pleasure, adjusting the mind to live away from the materials society are some helpful tips.
18 :
You have to do a little research before trying to convince you dad to get treatment. For example, it is quite likely that your dad has talked to the doctors and has more information than you at this point. Cancer that has spread has no chance of cure. Chemotherapy can make a person very sick. If he lives alone, there would not be anyone to take care of him if he gets chemo and feels like throwing up all the time. So talk to him to get more information before trying to change his mind.
19 :
Well ultimately you can't MAKE him do it. you can however, tell him how much you love him and how it will hurt you for him not to have the surgery. If the talking to him about it doesn't work, you can accept his decision, and be there for him. Sorry he's not wanting another surgery, and I know it's hard on you, but think, he's going through a lot too. He might just not want to hurt anymore, or go through the treatments. Hopefully things will work out, and don't forget to PRAY!!!!
20 :
I doubt that's what he's thinking. See how much his doctor will tell you. If it's absolutely terminal, you have to think about how you would want to live your own last days. If it's not but he has been in horrible pain for a long time, he might just want it to be over. Just tell him how much you love him and direct the conversation to happier days as much as possible. Best wishes to you all.

my dad does too its sad
2 :
that depends on alot of technical factors
3 :
Surgery and chemo. He'll need help with the chemo. I know I had it for breast cancer. I don't know if they radiate that area or not.
4 :
radiation therapy is the best.very good prognosis for stage 1
5 :
lots of tomato ketchup and garlic if it gets to stage 2 research mistletoe which was developed by rudolph steiner 100 years ago oh .... and lots of sex (lack of it caused the thing)
6 :
In most cases, especially with a non-aggressive form of prostate cancer, the best treatment is NO TREATMENT. Most men with prostate cancer die of another disease (e.g. heart disease) before the cancer can kill them. However, if the cancer is determined to be an aggressive form, some type of therapeutic intervention is warranted. Best wishes for you father's health.
7 :
There are different options and though they all have side effects, he should look into radioactive implants. They are tiny seeds which do not harm those around him and seem to be better than the surgical resection and/ or radiation. He just needs to have a explanation of all the options and statistics. If he is older like 70 it progresses less quickly.
8 :
If it is on initial stage Best way to get it operated I f it is on next even after operation u may have to go for chemo .now there are certain injection in market that will hold good for chemo Though the injection is costly but will serve problem . the patient will not have any side effect like loosing hair , vomiting etc.Injection will have to take every 2 months consult your surgeon wish u peaceful speeedy recovery to your dad AMEN

Completed Cancer treatment but cannot gain weight

Completed Cancer treatment but cannot gain weight?
I was diagnosed with abdominal cancer and had to go for radiology for 25 days. Still having problems with my running tummy and cramps and I just cannot get to pick up any weight? I am also type 1 diabetic.Anyone who can give some advise?

See a specialised doctor. There really is no better option.

Man, nowdays I don't even trust my doctor. I would never do kemo. I would suggest eating pure ginger root. And habanero chilly peppers. Stop drinking the Fluoride poisoned water that is in most public tap water. Not only is Fluoride toxic to inner organs, also chlorine is also put in the tap water that is a known cancer causing agent. The only way to get the Fluoride out is to distil your water. First I would look at what is causing the problem, and not what will temporarily band aid it. That is what most dr's are trained to do, just band aid it!! I heard also on this websight about people who used a low voltage treatment to they're blood supply that cured this guys terminal cancer!! http://educate-yourself.org/cancer/ Hope you do better!

Unfortunately your weight does not come back right away after you finished your chemo and/or radiation treatments. It took my son at least a good year before he put on and kept on 20 pounds. He lost approximately 70 pounds during treatment. He was only 15 at the time. He is now into his 4th year of remission and 21, and is only now really working out and keeping his weight where he wants it. I'm not sure what is appropriate for diabetics to eat, but my son's doctor suggested he take in more starches like rice, potatoes, breads and even bananas. You really need to speak with your doctors to decide what foods and maybe light work out program would be best for you. Hope this helps and I will add you to the list of patients I keep in my prayers.
4 :
all through my cancer treatments and even now after i have a dietician looking after me,it sounds like you need one have a word with your oncologist about how worried you are about not gaining weight.

What are my chances of surviving lung cancer with treatment

What are my chances of surviving lung cancer with treatment?
My doctor found a spot called a pulmonary nodule on my lung that may or may not be cancerous. Im worried that it is. What are my chances of surviving lung cancer? I am 19 years old and have been smoking for 5 years. I know emphazema runs in my family but im not too sure about lung cancer. Can someone please help me?

Now you need help. Why would you start smoking at 14? It was your choice and now its your fault. Edit: @Eden Being fat isnt illegal. Smoking underage is their choice. That's why there are laws. Eating is a part of life, something you need. Being fat may or may not be a persons fault depending on the circumstances. But Smoking was her choice. She went against the law and now shes gonna pay for it. I do feel some sort of sympathy for her but at the same time i feel she was being irresponsible.

Our body, just like the universe, has a pattern which evolves through time. Therefore by including the concept of "time" into the diagnosis, we can predict the pattern of our body, like the way we can predict the patterns in the universe. I am a Licensed Acupuncturist who practices what I call "Time Medicine". For years, I perform my diagnosis by using your gender, birth date, time of birth, and city and country of birth. I am able to immediately see the pattern, such as the physical appearance, the preference of food, the personality, and most importantly, accurately predict the time of event, and the type of disorder this person has. By understanding the constitution, I am able give my clients awareness as to how to prevent many ailments that may occur in their own pattern. So did I answer your question? Send a reply with the information of your gender, birthdate, time of birth, and city and country of birth. Look forward to conversing with you.
3 :
Answer4Nerdz --> you're horrible, who says that?? Why don't you go tell a really fat person that it's their fault for having a heart attack because they eat too much? Anyway.....back to the question. That's really scary, I can't believe that. What stage lung cancer is it? It really depends. It's easy to google this stuff and find answers to your question, depending on the stage you're in. I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing this because it's quite depressing. Good luck to you I hope everything works out!
4 :
I work in the radiation oncology department at my hosptial. The bad new is that lung cancer is very difficult to treat- some cancers we can do a lot about, but lung cancer isn't one of them. Obviously, I don't know much about your case, but your doctor/specialist should be able to tell you more.
5 :
Most pulmonary nodules are benign, meaning it isn't cancerous. However there is a chance it could be malignant. I suppose the good news (other than it moree liekly being benign) is that it has been found early. Lung cancer is hard to treat radically (intent to cure), however it can be done. Being young, you are a good candidate for surgery to remove it if it is in a good position. You would also be fit enough to have chemotherapy, so if it is malignant it can be treated. But don't worry yourself about it, don't keep thinking on how it could be cancerous. And I suggest quitting smoking, but it is a personal choice.

Can you really get full on cancer treatment at your local ER

Can you really get full on cancer treatment at your local ER?

Surgery? Chemo? Radiation? All for 'free'? I dunno..when I had the big C I had to chase around all over town, but lucky me, I had good insurance. Should I have just stopped by the clinic and saved all that time and hassle?

No. Emergency Rooms are only required to stabalize your condition then they can send you packing.
2 :
You will not be denied health care. But will for responsible for the bill.
3 :
when i was coughing up and crapping out about two pints of blood a week from End-Stage Liver Cancer i would have to go to Emergency all the time..... to get Stabilized and sent off to get a Transfusion of a couple of pints of My Rare Type of Fresh Blood, sometimes having to stay in Intensive Care Unit for over a Month at a Time because the Cancer was causing both of my Kidneys to Shut Down into Total Renal Failure........ Emergency Rooms are for when the Symptoms of Cancer Overwhelm you Body Functions so you go there then they send you on a path of Specialist and Test and Medication~!
4 :
Absolutely not! The emergency room is not for cancer treatment, its for immediate life threatening emergencies and for mild emergencies like sutures, broken bones etc. Cancer is a terrible thing for sure but there are more appropriate places to go.
5 :
No.

Does cancer treatment help or hurt

Does cancer treatment help or hurt?
I am curious about the effects of non-removable cancer treatment on the body. If someone found out they had cancer and elected NOT to treat it, what would the prognosis be vs. going through treatment. For instance, if you had cancer that was spreading and the doctors could no longer operate/remove the cancer are you better off taking cancer meds, or just riding it out? In this case I am talking about renal cancer that has spread to other organs.
Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It depends on the cancer and the treatment. Patient̢۪s often have surgery and other treatment to decrease symptoms which makes their quality of life better for however long it may last.
2 :
Generally the treatments are to shrink the remaining tumor or destroy cancer cells. Depending on the type of cancer, there are treatments that have successfully stopped the spread of the cancer cells and destroyed the tumors. To decide which treatment or if treatment is worth it, you need to talk with your Oncologist and do some research to determine if the benefits are worth the risk and discomfort.
