"Research injecting neural (adult) stem cells into the brains of dogs has shown to be very successful in treating cancerous tumors With traditional techniques, brain cancer is almost impossible to treat, because it spreads so rapidly. Researchers at the Harvard Medical School induced intracranial tumours in rodents and Then, they injected human neural stem cells. Within days the cells had migrated into the cancerous area and produced cytosine deaminase, an enzyme that converts a non-toxic pro-drug into a chemotheraputic agent. As a result, the injected substance was able to reduce tumor mass by 81 percent. The stem cells neither differentiated nor turned tumorigenic. Some researchers believe that the key to finding a cure for cancer is to inhibit cancer stem cells, where the cancer tumor originates. Currently, cancer treatments are designed to kill all cancer cells, but through this method, researchers would be able to develop drugs to specifically target these stem cells". Stem Cell therapy is a new age treatment. Where stem cells from the blood stream are used to treat diseases like Diabetes, epilepsy, Parkinson̢۪s disease, multiple sclerosis, eye and muscle diseases, heart ailments etc, without the use of drugs or surgery.

As NZ is a pretty civilized country, I wouldn't think that USA would offer any unique opportunities not available in NZ. You might do well to seek medical care in a larger city there, but most folks prefer being treated in large community hospitals (as opposed to large teaching hospitals).

How and where do you convert pop tops for cancer treatment payment

How and where do you convert pop tops for cancer treatment payment?

1 :
you don't. no organization that i'm aware of collects pop tops for breast cancer. even if they did, it wouldn't be for one specific person's treatment.
2 :
The Ronald McDonald House Charities collects the aluminum pop tabs and recyles them. They do this because years ago a hoax started circulating that a childs dialysis or cancer treatments were being paid for with the pop tabs. None of that was true. But the Charity decided to use the rumor to good advantage and began encouraging groups to collect the pop tabs for recyling. You can find out more about the pop tab recyling online: Ronald McDonald House Pop Tab Collection Program http://www.rmhc.org/content/rmhc/index/programs/ronald_mcdonald_house/pop_tab_collection.html Incidentally, it would be better to donate and recyle a whole aluminum can than just the pop tab.

What is the current bone cancer treatment for patients

What is the current bone cancer treatment for patients?
Not counting Radiation & Chemo.

1 :
DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE FIND A NATURAL CURES HEALTH CENTER AND ASK FOR OZONE TREATMENT . NO MEDICAL DOCTOR WILL DO THESE , SO DON'T EVEN ASK ONE . THIS IS VERY CHEAP AND IF ALL CANCER TREATMENTS USED IT------ THE MEDICAL SYSTEMS WOULD GO BANKRUPT . OZONE IS O3 AND PUTS ALL CANCERS IN REMISSION ALONG WITH MANY OTHER ALIMENTS .
2 :
Surgery is always the first treatment for bone cancer patients. What would happen next would depend on the type of bone cancer, the stage of disease and where the tumor was located. Radiation might be used after surgery but not always. Chemo would only be used if the tumor had been shown to be responsive to a particular chemotherapy drug. Some bone tumors do not respond to many types of chemotherapy. Ozone would never be used by a legitimate Dr since ozone is not approved by the FDA for treating cancer and any use of ozone would open the Dr and hospital up to criminal prosecution. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1370/is_6_33/ai_57800127
3 :
Your questions is far too general to answer properly. There are different types of bone cancer so much would depend on the type, location, stage, tumor grade, the age and overall health of the patient. If you need more specific answers than the best place to go is to the support groups for the various types of bone cancer . . most people there are patients discussing treatment options and they can guide you. Google ACOR mailing lists for Ewings sarcoma and Osteosarcoma to start.
4 :
You might want to check here, it may be of some help to you! http://www.sheep2lion.com
5 :
there are many different types of bone cancers each with their own treatments. For cancers like osteosarcoma radiation is rarely used. first the scans tests and biopsy to confirm that it is indeed cancer. Then usually a surgical treatment. Depending on the age of the individual and the location of the cancer they may be able to remove the effected bone and replace it with donor bone or metal plates. for those finished growing and with early detection and the cancer away from the joint this may be a good option. If the person is younger and will continue growing they may require many surgeries if this course of action is taken. Amputation is another treatment for osteogenicsarcoma and some other bone cancers. if the cancer is in a location where the bones cannot be replaced or the person is young and will continue to grow this may be the better option. the leg is removed at the femur, at the foot, through the knee or the person may have a van ness rotation * cringe* another surgical treatment that i honestly don't know why people do is fusing the knee. The person would then live with a straight leg for the rest of their life. People allowed this to happen to their kids when i was going though and I can't believe a doctor would even consider such a thing. straight legs are a pain. they wear you're hip out like there is no tomorrow. then of course though out all of this there is Chemo.

Should people who smoke have access to cancer treatment

Should people who smoke have access to cancer treatment?

Should people who drive and been in 2 accidents have access to health care? Of course they should. Speaking as an ex smoker, most folks have no idea how tough it is to quit. I see some of your reasoning, but (as I have above) this kind of thinking could be twisted and turned to deny many things to many folks. Hope i provoked some thought. Have a nice day!
2 :
why not. everyone has a right
3 :
cancer treatment isnt that exclusive, and almost anyone can get Kemo, so yes.
4 :
Should tobacco companies loose their fortunes for putting out a product that causes cancer? NO one deserves cancer, and NO one deserves to be barred from cancer treatment.
5 :
Of course... so what your saying is if people smoked they should not be able to have care if they have cancer?? Kind of biased dont ya think?

When your DR & your Radioligist disagree about Breast cancer treatment

When your DR & your Radioligist disagree about Breast cancer treatment?
Put simply my mom has several doctors that have conflicting opinions. She has gotten 2nd opinions and none of the DR's agree on anything. No body even says what stage it is. After 3 mamograms we knew something was up, but they had never said they thought it was cancer. They sent her for a biopsy ( as in the past) but this was not a needle, this was with a scalpel. They did ultra sound, and MRI. She went to a radiologist who said he could not do 8 weeks treatment because it was close to the heart. So her oncologist recomends masectomy. She called the Radioloigist back and told him the recomendation, he said he would not do it if it was him. He said MRI can be wrong, they are so sensitive. He would rather risk heart damage down the road. Has anybody had to make the treatment decision on thier own, and should they tell her what stage she is in. The biopsy was positive on AUG 1. They say it might be 2 spots and might be in the lymh nodes.

Go with the oncologist and a mastectomy. The radiologist would enter late in the game, perhaps too late to avoid spread.
2 :
if its already in the lymph system she will also need a port, but if she has heart issues, only two medications will be used instead of three. as for the breast cancer, i would do whatever it takes....this is unfortunately one of those damned if you do damned if you dont kinda things.... (father had lymphoma to as well as renal carcinoma) good luck and prayers are with you! i dont know what else to tell you since it is now in the lymph system....but, since you cant treat two different kinds of cancer with different meds, i'd have them cut the tumor out of the breast and hop on the "port" meds for the lymphoma
3 :
I think that I would go to a well known teaching medical center and get tested again. I think that these placess have a much more modern up to date approach on all the new stuff and diagnostic equipment. I am a nurse and that is what I would do. I also like going to women physician......they are much more sensitive.
4 :
The only way to know if there is spread to the lymph nodes is to surgically remove the first tier of them and send them through pathology to check for spread of the primary cancer. Your mom should probably switch doctors and find one who will give her full disclosure of her condition so she can better make decisions about her treatment and care. A Radiology Oncologist is only going to recommend radiation because they don't work with or study up on the chemotherapies or surgeries, they are a specialty. Don't delay in finding a new oncologist because with every passing month things can progress if not treated.
5 :
You need to find out from the biopsy results if the cancer has spread anywhere in the body-mestastisized. If it has spread, usually a mastectomy will not be done since the cancer has already spread from there. Usually, staging is done first-the steps of biopsy, ultrasound etc -your mom has done that. From that info a decision should be made. Actually staging of the tumor-1A to 4C sometimes can't be determined until after surgery but the oncologist must have an idea from the biopsy report. The usual steps are biopsy, surgery, chemo. radiation for treating breast cancer. Since the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes, I would opt for a mastectomy followed by chemo and then radiation if necessary.
6 :
Only Radiologists And Oncologists Should Make Decisions About Cancer Patients It Is Important To Know That A G.P Has Limited Knowledge About Cancer So Get The Radiologist And Oncologist Working Together Cheers I Am A Doctor
7 :
The radiologist and oncologist have two different functions. Use their advice only for what they are specialized to do. That said, it is clear to me that the oncologist is more qualified in the area that the Radiologist is not. Breast cancer should be treated according to the oncologists advice. Perhaps she should see a breast cancer oncologist. There is a fantastic doctor in Marin County, California. Her name is Dr. Bobbie Head. You could call her office and see if she can help. But then not sure where you live. I am 47 and found two very small Ductoral carcinoma in situ. The positioning was such that I was advised to have a left breast mastectomy if I wanted to be really sure it was all out. I did not hesitate. Best thing I did because when they tested the mass and they found some was actually invasive and had not been detected earlier. I was so grateful I made that decision because three years later it is all gone and has not come back and nor is it likely to.. I had a tram flap reconstruction and I look very normal. I did not need radiation or chemo. BUT remember everyone is different. You should be very comfortable with your doctor and able to follow advice. At the same time it is imperative you do your own investigation so you can accomplish that level of comfort needed to move forward. Al the best. Tell your mom not be afraid, but to take "the bull by the horns."
8 :
Unfortunately in this day and age, the doctors want the patient to make the final decision. My sister, sister-in-law, and I are all breast cancer survivors. My sister had several suspicious spots, including two confirmed locations of malignancy in the same breast. She opted for mastectomy, as did my sister in law. I had a partial mastectomy, also known as a lumpectomy followed by chemo and radiation. Radiation isn't always necessary, nor is chemo, depending on the size of the tumor and if it has spread to the lymph nodes. Your mom should seek to have a sentinal node biopsy, which will let the doctors know if the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes. If the cancer hasn't spread, and as you say there are several spots, most doctors recommend a mastectomy followed by reconstruction, if your mom want's to go that route. My sugery left me a little lopsided but I opted not to go with any reconstruction. Good luck to your mom. Please feel free to contact me directly if you want. Please also check out Dr. Susan Love's website. It is full of lots of good, up to date information.
9 :
I wouldn't wait too long to make this decision, if I was your mom. Also, maybe you are confusing the terms "radiologist" and "radiation oncologist"? First, go see a breast surgeon and get this taken care of. They will do sentinel node biopsies and recommend mastectomy v. lumpectomy. Time is of the essence!
10 :
I hope u mean oncologist, but get a PET/CT scan. The oncologist should order this as a staging procedure. Stick to theperson who specializes in cancer- the oncologist.

Start with a brief biography of Curie who died of radiation poisoning. Move on to the use of radium as a health tonic (tsk tsk). then talk about the modern uses where its effects actually help rather than hurt us.

At what point in cancer treatment do they prescribe morphine

At what point in cancer treatment do they prescribe morphine?
A guy at work has a cancer in his neck, he seems pretty healthy and just has had his first cycle of chemo with the catheter and all stage IV the hospice nurse just gave him a morphine prescription. I always thought morphine was the last thing they give you before the patient passed away. Does this mean that they think his time is coming already? he is working and seems healthy
Cancer - 7 Answers

1 :
no. they might be giving him a low dosage of morphine. i am a nurse and when we give morphine, its to releive the pain. but yes we also give it to them if there dying.
2 :
For chronic pain.
3 :
My son was on morphine the first 3 weeks in the hospital for all the pain he was in. My father was on a low dose for 3 years before he passed. It's more for pain and comfort.
4 :
no not at all my cancer was not life threatening but the radiotherapy caused me great pain and morphine was prescribed unfortunely 18 months later i am addicted to it.like you i always thought it was the last medication given to dying patients but it's not so.
5 :
The use of morphine has nothing to do with what stage a patient is. It can be prescribed for patients who are undergoing curative treatment for their cancer or it can be used in palliative patients for symptom control. The decision to use morphine is based on the patient's pain level. If the pain is mild, a simple anti-inflammatory can be used. Once the pain progresses, the next step is a weak narcotic, such as hydrocodone or oxycodone. If this still doesn't alleviate the pain, the next step is to proceed with a stronger narcotic such as morphine or dilaudid. The goal is to get the pain under control. The pain may be due to the cancer or side effects from the cancer treatments. If the cancer is curable, then once the side effects have resolved, the patient will be weaned off of the morphine. If it is a palliative scenario, the patient may be on morphine until they pass away. Dr. Kelly www.canceranswersonline.com
6 :
Morphine is typically used for what they call "breakthrough pain", pain that is unresponsive to most other pain medications, patches, and/or relief techniques. They do give it to people who are terminal but they also give it to people who have a good prognosis. It all depends on the severity of the pain, not how bad off a patient is or if they are terminal or not.
7 :
No , it does not mean he is dying. Its called pain management, which is what I was on. If he was dying, he would not be at work but in a hospital bed with an I.V. and would be on liquid morphine. He is probably taking mild morphine like dilaudids to help lessen the pain or some other generic name brand. Be happy he is there, support him. Stage 4 is not a good thing. He should be glad he has friends like you who care enough to get informed. Life is short, what time we have on this earth is precious. The saying is so true:"There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving".
