Has anyone had any experience in a cancer treatment called Torisel for Renal Cell Carcinoma

Has anyone had any experience in a cancer treatment called Torisel for Renal Cell Carcinoma?
My dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma. He started a treatment this week. The treatment is call Torisel. I wonder if anyone has any experience in this drug. If it worked for your loved one and if there was any side effects and how long did it take to have the side effects.

I believe this is one of the newer mTOR targeted therapy drugs. It is very new. You would probably get more response and better information by going to an online support group with other patients who are using this drug. Good luck.
2 :
Torisel is a drug that is used to treat advanced (stage IV) renal cell carcinoma. I would suggest contacting an agency that specifically matches cancer patients or their families to volunteers that are either survivors or loved ones that have gone through the same experience. This way you can really talk with someone that knows what you are going through. Try the Cancer Hope Network: http://www.cancerhopenetwork.org/ Or Kidney Cancer Association: http://www.kidneycancer.org/ Best Wishes for your family
3 :
Torisel (temsirolimus), a renal cell carcinoma drug, has been given approval by the FDA. Renal cell carcinoma is a form of kidney cancer. It is said that Torisel has been shown to increase a patient's survival time. Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, the maker of the drug Torisel, said that it expects Torisel to be available in the market in July 2007. The FDA conducted a clinical trial on 626 patients who were split into three groups. The first group of patients was given Torisel, while the second group was given a medicine called Interferon alpha, which is a comparison drug. The third group was given a combination of Torisel and Interferon. The test showed that the patients who only took Torisel lived at least 11 months, compared with 7.3 months for those who only took interferon. The difference is about 3.5months. Also, for those persons who were given Torisel, the renal cell carcinoma generally took about two months longer to worsen. Renal cell carcinoma, which almost accounts for 85 percent of all U.S. adult kidney cancer, is diagnosed in 51,000 people annually in North America. Owners of dogs are advised to talk to their veterinarians about taking their dogs along on holiday. check out this site for more info http://cancer-care-center.blogspot.com/

sorry to her your News of your dad. My mum was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer last may. By the time they found it had already spread to her liver and lung. It was VERY aggressive. we where told by top urologists that once kidney cancer spreads it is almost certainly incurable and treatments are not that effective. Mum was tried on a drug called sutent sorry i know nothing about torisel. Sutent was a complete waste of time, mums cancer had progressed to far by that stage. it only made her sicker and she would have been better just enjoying what time she had left. Mum pasted away 4 months after diagnosis aged 60. it was and still is the most devasting thing i have experienced. If you need info or support please contact me thru email. once again i am sorry for news, x

I Just Saw an Ad for "Cancer Treatment Centers of America", Do you Know the Percentage of Diagnosed Pancreatic?
- Cancer that is Actually Pancreatic Cancer? Is the "Treatment" Mostly Palliative? Thanks Panda. Sorry, but Statistics In General, Not Only their Statistics.

Cancer Treatment Center of America are private cancer hospitals. It's difficult to accurately give statistics for these facilities because they are exclusive in who they choose to treat . . they are able to pick and choose the patient and type of cancer they will treat. I know personally that they have turned patients away who had a type of cancer considered 'terminal' . . they didn't want to treat her even though she had plenty of money . . so they pick and choose who they want for patients.
2 :
VS Hospital may help you regarding this......... VSH along with Maruti Hospitals, Trichy will be coming up with a state of the art 100 bedded cancer hospital in Tanjore, a southern temple town in Tamil Nadu, by the last quarter of 2009. It will bring the first linear accelerator to the Trichy- Tanjore belt.

If I have a minor cold, could I be around someone undergoing cancer treatment

If I have a minor cold, could I be around someone undergoing cancer treatment?
A friend of mine is going through cancer treatment and is having a large number of people over (at a restaurant) for lunch. I have a minor cold (mostly sniffles), could I go without having an impact on him? He is well enough to fly...
Cancer - 10 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It depends on the treatment. I personally wouldn't risk it
2 :
I would avoid anyone currently in treatment. You could send a card, call during the lunch, whatever. Any infection can be life-threatening to a cancer patient.
3 :
The fact that you've now got the cold means that you're probably no longer infectious. Just don't get too close, to be on the sfe side, but you shoudl be fine. I'm sure seeing you, knowing you care, will have a far more benificial effect on them.
4 :
if your friend is having chemo it's best to avoid them but if its radiotherapy then you should be fine.
5 :
it depends on what type of treatment but if he is well enough to fly it would probably be okay i just wouldn't get too close.
6 :
Don't go! Your friend will probably be grateful that you are thinking of him and putting his health first. Cancer patients undergoing treatment usually have NO immune system, therefore any type of illness can be life threatening.
7 :
It's not a good idea. Then again neither is flying while going through chemo. In my opinion he is more at risk of germs from flying than from being around you as long as you don't get too close.
8 :
When my mom was sick with cancer she caught a cold (probably from so many visitors). I don't think it ever fully went away, she died 2 months later. Cancer patients have a low immunity to fight bugs so if you really want to go, wear a mask. I'm sure people would understand and respect you more.
9 :
Although it would be nice to be with your friend, you should probably avoid being near him until your cold goes away. People who have cancer have suppressed immune systems, so they're more prone to catching germs and with potentially serious consequences.
10 :
Yes, you could be around them. If your friend is able to fly and be at a public restaurant, then it is o.k. for you to go. Flying and being in public already exposes your friend to all the germs-- and then some-- that you could possibly share with him. Just be sure to not sneeze or cough close to him.

Do you want your Mom or grandmother to wait 8 months for cancer treatment

Do you want your Mom or grandmother to wait 8 months for cancer treatment?
And when Obama drives private healthcare out of business were will Canadians go to for cancer treatment? Why would any employer provide private insurance to their employers if the govt will give it to them at taxpayers expense? USE COMMON SENSE

1 :
Canada.
2 :
Do you have a government run healthcare I am guessing NO nuff said
3 :
Private healthcare is so superior yet you think it will be driven out of business? Hope your HMO covers paranoia.
4 :
Mexico.
5 :
No, but but a lot of mothers can't even afford cancer treatment under our current system. My HMO denied my mammograms for years despite a heavy family history of breast cancer. HMO's are not the solution, they are a failure, and we need a nationalized option.
6 :
No. My mom stayed in Canada for her cancer treatment.
7 :
Canadians come here for ELECTIVE surgeries, do the research dude. It would be more accurate to ask ... "Do you want your mom or grandmother to wait 8 months for their boob jobs?"
8 :
Typical republican straw man argument without any facts to back it up.
9 :
Canada? Hmm...glad you brought them up. Canada has some of the highest cancer survival rates in the world. The US does pretty good in survivor rates too, but I'd trade our system for Canada's in a heart beat.
10 :
Eight months???? Honey, try 5 YEARS!!!!!!! Thanks, Hillary!
11 :
No country with universal healthcare makes emergency cases wait 8 months for treatment. And even so - that would still be better than not getting it at all. As for Canadians - Americans contribute a lot to international medical tourism too - the arguments we export medical treatment while ignoring the fact we import it also are clearly intended to be misleading. As for your last argument - it is not common sense nor real world finding that employers will stop providing insurance. Employers are under no obligation to provide insurance now. Yet they do for a lot of employees. They do this to attract good employees. If a government system is going to be as bad as you pretend (ignoring the fact that every other developed country has a government provided option and everyone of them produces better health statistics than the US) then employers will still have to offer alternatives to attract talent. Most developed countries have hybrid public/private systems. To argue such a system cannot work is to put yourself at odds with reality.
12 :
I live in CA where every f-ing government spending program is sacrosanct. I personally do not want healthcare to be another albatross around my neck when we need to balance the budget. To those single-payer advocates: Would you want public healthcare if it meant bankruptcy?
13 :
Wait to watch the commercials and be gullible enough to believe what they say is the norm. It is true that Canada has some long wait times for certain procedures but that is more due to a shortage of physicians in certain specialties because some incompetent politicians cut funding for Canadian medical schools in the early 1990's. The health care system in Canada is far more efficient than some republicans would have you believe.
14 :
Not if it was required. Cancer generally needs immediate and aggressive treatment
15 :
I work in the healthcare system in the UK. A patient was seen last week, diagnosed with suspected cancer, seen by a specialist for confirmation within two days and this week they are being seen for radiotherapy. An eight month wait? I do not think so. First of all, too many people do not know that Obama is not going to bring in universal healthcare. He wants to make insurance more available to all. Second, of course universal health-cover sucks. That is why we in Western Europe have it. We think, hmm, our healthcare system sucks. I know, lets keep it. I guess that is the same with Japan and Canada as well. FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet. FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage. That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.

How do I convince my mother to get cancer treatment

How do I convince my mother to get cancer treatment?
My mother got results from a mammogram in January that said she needed to get rechecked. She decided to just do nothing because she doesn't want to be a strain on the system since she is on Medical. How do I convince her to get treatment?

1 :
If she just needs to get rechecked, she may or may not have a problem. But, if she does have a problem and does nothing she is going to end up being a huge strain on the system eventually. If that is her reasoning, let her know that it doesn't hold water. If she has the benefit of early detection, she could possbily get away with surgery that requires a band aid and not a day of work missed. If she waits, she could be talking horrible surgery, horrible chemotherapy and would be a burden on the system and her family. Make the appointment for her and go with her.
2 :
All the information about cancer with photos and patient guidelines are available on http://www.cancerssociety.org
3 :
Boy, this hits home. My sister in law did the same thing. Her reasoning was because her mother was dying of cancer, she didn't want to bother her mother with the fact that she had a tumor in her breast. After her mother died, she finally had a mastectomy after we all told her we were going to drag her to the hospital kicking and screaming. She was only 33 when she got breast cancer. The waiting cost her a big price, her life. Because she waited, the cancer metastasized to her lungs. She died a year later. Had she had her cancer treated as soon as she found out, she would be alive today. So tell your mother just because she's on Medical, that's what they are there for. To help your mother with her medical needs. Tell her what happened to my sister in law. Let her read this. It will NOT put a strain on anybody just because she's on Medical. What will put a strain on is her family if she ignores this. Please, mother, do what your DR told you to do. Blessings
4 :
I know how stressful a situation like this can be, for everyone. You and your family need to sit down and have a very frank discussion with your Mom. Tell her the repercussions of her not dealing with this now might be much worse later on, down the road. I know how scary this can be, not only for her but for her loved ones. Tell her how much she means to you, and that she will get all the support she needs. Also, if you check with your local hospital/doctor, there are 'support groups' which can really be a big help, to her and your family. This could be nothing or it could be something, she won't know until she follows up with her doctor. I wish you and your family all the best.

How do i raise money for my moms BREAST CANCER TREATMENT?? HELP?
On Friday afternoon i got a call from my sister and tld me my moms breast cancer screening came out positive. First i started to cry and then i began to worry about my parents finances my dad hasn't worked for years due to being disabled at his former job and they have no medical insurance. For starters, I would check with the hospital she will getting treatment--sometimes they can help people who are unable to pay full price. If your parents are low income, they may qualify for medicaid or some other govt program, particularly since your father is disabled. You can call the Am Cancer Society 24/7 (1-800-227-2345) for list of national & local resources. Some drug companies can help with meds, some organizations can help with other costs. Sometimes there are transportation help, either through ACS or other organizations. It can take some searching, but help can be found. As to fundraisers, if your parents are well known in their community, or are regulars at certain restaurants or businesses, and your parents are ok with it, you might ask them to hold a fundraiser dinner or something, with the tips or a percentage of profits going to your mom's treatment. Good luck & my best wishes to your mom!!!
2 :
Contact the American Cancer Society. Good Luck.
3 :
Frist, relax. It's tough finding out about cancer but I'm sure even tougher with no insurance. Try checking out the Susan G. Koman site. There is plenty of information on there. Also if you are able to have a benefit you can raise a lot of money. Reach out to local places (bars, resturants, etc.) and also companies who could donate items to raffle at the benefit. I've been to a few benifits and you would be surprised how generous people are. Good luck with everything.

Hypothetically there are alternatives to chemotherapy, but the question is how valid are these alternatives? Studies have shown that Chinese herbal medicine can be very good for certain cancers, but that's all I know... I myself am an acupuncturist and MD at the same time, my favored method of cancer treatment is to use herbs to help the patient's immunity while he undergoes chemo, and acupuncture to allieve side effects
2 :
You should do a google search for killing cancer with high PH therapy and another for 9.5 PH water Cures cancer. See what happens. I know someone who has been drinking 9.5 PH water for about a year. His brain cancer has gone from him being bedridden to his walking with a cane to not needing the cane anymore. He is 85 and refuses chemo because he feels it will not benifit him and will weaken the rest of his body. Best of luck to you.

www.chemohelp.info is your answer. You must visit it.
2 :
There's lots of types of chemo and it can be administered in different ways. Chemotherapy literally means 'drug therapy' and isn't actually a brand of drug in itself. It can be used to treat Cancer or auto-immune diseases like Lupus. Side effects vary depending on what chemo you are having and the person involved. Sometimes people lose hair, are sick, are just tired, or aren't affected at all.
3 :
The American Cancer Society will be able to answer all of your Questions. They even have a way for you to connect with counselors to assist with the stress of going through Chemotherapy. This is how I coped with my chemotherapy, Went through it for 18 months for my Brain tumor.

For concerns like cancer, which medical policy do you think is better, treatment or prevention

For concerns like cancer, which medical policy do you think is better, treatment or prevention?
The current official response to cancer is treatment, which you do or do not agree with ( compared to prevention ) ?
Cancer - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
prevention is better, a lot of people get cancer cause of bad habits like smoking, they need to stop making cigarrettes.
2 :
It is not a one or the other answer. Yes Prevention includes not smoking, protecting you skin, eating right, etc. But non smokers get lung cancer. Then there are cancers with no known causes e.g. what is the prevention of breast cancer? Cancer like cells are created all the time in your body and most of the time your immune system takes care of them. The various cancers have unknown triggers that turn them out of control. The treatment is to kill them through treatment.
3 :
Its an obvious choice-prevention! To start with, it would be a whole lot less expensive for the insurance companies to pay for checkups and testing than to eat the hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer treatments! But then the poor drug companies would lose money, because healthy people don't take drugs! I'm biased because I was diagnosed with stage 3 malignant melanoma two years ago, after suspecting the mole might be bad for a few years. My gp thought I was too young, so he wouldn't send me to a dermatologist and I had to have a referral for insurance. Needless to say, after $75,000 in surgeries and taking the insurance company to court to pay it, I definitely think I would have preferred to have it cut off years ago than to go through this nightmare!
4 :
Cancer can be prevented in the majority of cases, so I vote for prevention. (See research by T. Colin Campbell) The science is unequivocal. Former president L B Johnson quipped that the NIH is owned by industry. The same can be said of all major departments within the US Federal government. Our national policy in the US is treatment oriented and very little money has been spent on research of causes. We know that there are many type of toxic chemicals that cause the initiation of cancer. X-Rays and other injuries to cells can precipitate cancer when cell multiplication goes incorrectly. Most of these problems are corrected by the body's own immune system shortly after cancer initiation. There was one outstanding long-term study that received funding from NIH called the China project. This project showed that the growth of cancer (after initiation) is fed by consumption of animal proteins. Excess milk protein is particularly bad. Sadly, the most important health information is lost in a sea of industry disinformation with media help. Read for yourself a book written by T. Colin Campbell: "The China Study" You can find an online version of many chapters through Google books.

3 :
None, I'm not American. We have universal healthcare.
4 :
Look at it from the families' perspective - what would they give up to try to help the person with cancer? I would've given up everything I own if it would have helped my mother.
5 :
most people would pay anything. You can't buy a new car for $5000, so isn't a person worth more than that? not saying it won't be tough but hopsitals can set up payment plans and refer pts for financial councelling. you can ask businesses for donations and do a theme basket benefit to cover the $5000. might get hall donated too. recently had one for friend w cancer and they raised over $30,000. also for $100 you can have tickets printed for a monthly 50/50 split raffle ticket based on the daily lottery numbers. for $5/ticket,sell all 1000 tickets and you've got your deductible covered. So there are things that can be done and I at least believe a life is worth more than $5000. having said that, if I KNEW I was terminal and had a very limited time to live, I think I'd forgo the treatment and just enjoy what time I had left. If you have less than a year, why spend that time suffering through treatment.

Do prison inmates get cancer treatment if they find that they have it?

1 :
yes
2 :
Only if they have to keep the prisoner alive to execute him later.
3 :
I believe they do,they have a right to be treated.
4 :
Of course. Why not? They get any type of medical treatment they need.
5 :
Yes, inmates receive any medical care they require.
6 :
but of course!
7 :
Yep...they receive medical services and psychological services.
8 :
no, they don't the courts ruled it is to expensive, and they won't let private insurance or the family pay for such treatment, even if the person is in for a minor charge such as drug use,
9 :
Yes they do. And if an inmate's condition gets too bad, and the system feels it costs too much to maintain the treatment, in some states they can apply for a medical reprieve, meaning that they can be released under supervision if their prognosis is very grim. Check your state and see if they grant medical reprieves, or check your state to see what prisons are medical prisons or ones who general house very ill inmates.
10 :
Yes, there was a case here in WA where a man had been sentenced to death. He refused to take lethal injection because he was "deathly afraid" of needles (I still can't figure that one out but ok..), and they couldn't hang him because he was so fat they didn't think the rope would break his neck so he would strangle to death (which was cruel and inhumane). So while he was sitting on death row he ended up having kidney failure (because he was so fat). The state PAID for him to get a new kidney. I couldn't believe it. I think they should have forced him to go on a diet so they could hang the stupid fat perverted f#%k.
11 :
In this country, no one can be denied health care, espescially someone in state custody. In New Jersey, if the person has private insurance coverage, his policy has to pay for him until it runs out. If an inmate has no insurance, than the state pays for meds and treatment. If they are in advanced stages of the disease, they are housed in a hospital wing in the prison. And the treatment is strictly bare bones.
12 :
Yes.
13 :
Unfortunately if a prison inmate finds out that they have cancer, then yes, they will get treated. In our system of "justice" the rapists, thieves, killers, molesters actually have a better life than what we do. Granted they are there for a reason, but I don't think that since they did their crime, they should be allowed the same conveniences that we have.
14 :
Yes have taken many inmates for medical treatments
15 :
yes, the bare minimum
16 :
unfortunatly it's required by law to give any care necassary to inmates even if they are screw ups and cant be a well mannered human being.
17 :
In California, yes, they are given treatment, and in some cases if it is terminal with only a few months to live, they are released early.
18 :
In Virginia, inmates used to get whatever medical treatment was needed. Then George Allen (son of the former coach of the Washington Redskins) was elected Governor. He's now in the U.S. Senate. George said it was not right for inmates to get free medical treatment when the taxpayers have to pay for thier own medical treatment. So now inmates must pay towards their own medical insurance. And must make co-payments each time they have a medical treatment. Most prison jobs for inmates only pay $0.10 to $0.25/hour. Having to make the co-payments has cut down on the number of visits inmates make to doctors, dentists, etc. Many prisons also have tel-medicine. Basically, the ability to run medical test & see the results over the Internet. This is to avoid, when possible, having to transport an inmate beyond the prison walls.

What are the options for skin cancer treatment

What are the options for skin cancer treatment?
This is for a class project/exercise on sourcing information through social networking websites & web 2.0 applications. The question is - what type of answers would be received through this communication medium? What kind of communal knowledge exists about this subject? Please note that I do not have skin cancer and would advocate consulting a doctor above all other options. Thank you for your answers!!

I can not comment about skin cancer social networking but can tell you that with rare cancers social networking can save a patients life. The social networking cancer groups support one another, empower by sharing information and stories about their own cancer journeys. Through social networking we learned about experimental treatments that others had tried . .and we took that information back to the doctors office with us. Social networking, especially with the rare cancers, is instant . .you can always find someone who will answer your questions or encourage you to seek out different options. Many of the patients I communicate regularly with have very, very few treatment options . . many of them have not survived their disease. Through social networking we were able to piece together treatments that might work against those that we knew were not working . . . long before any clinical trial evidence became publically available. We also shared clinical trial information . . what was working or what was failing . . and unfortunately with my sons type of cancer almost everything has failed. I would say through the support groups I've been a member of . . I have seen vast improvements in treatment options over the last four or five years . . and most of the information was learned from the experiences of group members as opposed to being presented the information from our pediatric oncologist. This way of learning also helped when we did consult with the oncologists because we became familiar with the medical terminology and could understand more clearly what the oncologist proposed to do. Social networking has helped in understanding the treatments . . if a doctor didn't explain it clearly, often another patient could explain it. Doctors clearly have an understanding of the medical process, but many of them are definitely behind when it comes to social networking about cancer . . many have yet to embrace the phenomenon of cancer support groups sharing information online. Our sons doctor often asked us what other doctors were doing in other parts of the country since she knew we were in communication with other patients. And our doctor always listened to us . . she was able to process the information we shared with her and do her own research to verify what we shared. Through this means my son was offered an experimental treatment called intra abdominal hyperthermic chemoperfusion . . something that had never been done for his age group or disease type . . and I believe that this treatment extended his life by three years. Social networking is important, how important remains to be seen. It also seems like in terms of treatment that we were more involved with our doctor . . we felt more in control of the process and more a part of a team fighting for our sons life instead of just letting the doctor decide everything.

There is a cancer website I came across that has a pretty good concise list of different cancers and relative information: http://forthefightagainstcancer.webs.com Hope this helps!

Does anyone have any good or bad stories about Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa

Does anyone have any good or bad stories about Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa?
My dad has been diagnosed with cancer and is going to go there next week. A family friend is being very negative about CTCA and I feel that it is our best fighting chance to get rid of it. Please let me know if you have any information at all! Thanks so much!

My mom went there, but she was in Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer, so it was basically hopeless. We went to the one in IL. They were very attentive and caring. Because of the nature of her disease I do not think they could have saved her, but had we gotten her in there earlier I think she would have been happier throughout the process. I don;lt think they have miracle cures, but I do like there "whole body + mind" approach. Good Luck to your dad & your family.

I have brain cancer and I called CTCA and was referred to the treatment center in Tulsa. The ONLY thing they kept wanting to know was what type of insurance I had. When I told them I had Blue Cross/Blue Shield AND Medicare, their response was "I'm sorry, we are unable to help you, please call back if and when your insurance changes". When I proceeded to tell them that we were prepared to take out a loan and pay cash for my visit, they weren't interested. They said they only accept insurance and they don't accept BC/BS nor Medicare. They went on to say that if I was in dire need, then perhaps my husband should get a job with insurance they would accept!!!! When I asked to speak to a billing supervisor I was told that it was their policy and they even had the audacity to tell me to "have a nice day". I don't call what they said caring, attentive or anything other than cruel. You couldn't pay me to go there now. They are only interested in the money not the patient.

Good Luck to you and certainly for your dad. Have just started an investigation of this outfit so my knowledge is limited. My investigation shall be very thorough when completed. I must assume you have gotten past the upfront cash required by these people. It can be as little as $15000 or as much as $250000 on the barrelhead. It depends on the cancer type, location, history of therapy response, types of therapy employed, length of therapy etc. Sadly, it also depends on this COMPANY'S current fiscal condition. It's contracts for personnel. It's agreements with its' suppliers and contractors. The amount being paid by them to keep a substantial legal team under retainer. It's ever increasing expenditures in marketing (the TV advertising costs rise rapidly even with contractual lookahead agreements). As far as good versus not so good outcomes are concerned, in my initial requests for information I have been able to come to some conclusions, based again on a small sampling of respondents, which I found to be revelatory. Almost every "did make use of" patient or patients family and/or friends said they were very impressed with the initial contact(s) with CTCA representitives. The "employees" were totally sympathetic to both the patient and his/her family members and/or friends. Obviously this is splendid. With this diagnosis a positive and hopeful stance by the treating people is "just what the doctor ordered". And it was "what the doctor ordered" as well as the marketing team in their high level sales meeting(s). You must remember that this company is just that. A COMPANY. A PROFIT MAKING COMPANY. Nothing is done at any of their facilities that are purely altruistic. They have a Chairman of the Board, a CFO, a Board etc. As an incorporated entity they have a good many stockholders. All of these people want as much money paid to the company as can be had. Although it is possible that everyone involved is an angel on earth, recent public disclosures have shown that corporations have but one real incentive. A sad state of affairs! As far as positive ending treatments are concerned. Yes! They do have some succesful outcomes. As far as my beginning investigations are concerned, the success rates for all types of malignancy seem to be comparable to those of private and public hospitals and clinics around the United States. This includes those centers which descibe themselves as "Cancer Centers" both, again, public and private. Most, if not all, declarations of the type that infers that we are better because we concentrate on cancer (or diabetes or ??????) play word games with the public. The people who are dealing with these dreadful conditions are at a vulnerable point in life and these medical organisations know this all too well and use desperation to increase their bottom lines. The old chestnut "figures don't lie But lyers can figure" does apply more often than we would like to think it does. Bottom line here is...............if you listen with both ears..........if you ask reasonable questions and ask these questions of the doctors and other medical personnel who will be involved in the treament of your loved one......................if you are truly satisfied with those answers..............if you know what the contemplated treatments are going to cost the resposible party (they ALWAYS add up faster than one can possibly believe).....................if you go to the trouble of gathering comments, both pro and con, from the internet, trustworthy print media, friends, relatives and disinterested third parties, people who have been directly involved with the institution you are thinking of using (UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES PAY ANY ATTENTION TO ADVERTISEMENTS PRODUCED AND PAID FOR BY THE INSTITUTION YOU ARE CONTEMPLATING USING! REMEMBER WHY THEY ARE ADVERTISING. IT'S FOR THEIR WALLETS AND POCKETBOOKS. BEING CUTE, FUNNY, OVERTLY SENTIMENTAL, EVEN TUGGING AT YOUR PATRIOTISM (IT'S HAPPENED BEFORE AND WILL HAPPEN AGAIN) ARE ALL TRICKS USED BY PROFESSIONAL PITCHMEN AND WRITERS TO GET INTO YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS ETC. DON'T LET THEM DO IT. YOU ARE IN CHARGE! I must refer you to a lawsuit filed by the Federal Trade Commission in 1994. CTCA was sued for making false unsubstantiated medical claims about their success rates, the efficacy of certain treatments, the approach used by their first contacts employees and agents ie;by telephone, computer and face-to-face. There were some other accusations of wrongdoing against them. CTCA, to keep from publically admitting their guilt, agreed to the issuing of a Consent Decree by the U.S. Government which bars them in perpetuam, from making any claims they could not backup, publically or privately, and many other things. Currently they are using in both broadcast and print ads, claims that can at best, be described as purely anecdotal and guised in a wrapping of onesided wishful thinking. Though to my knowledge no lawsuit has been filed as yet, I have been informed that some officia
4 :
What type cancer has your dad been diagnosed with? One of the members of my brain tumor support group tried CTCA and felt they were totally a bad choice for treatment. I don't remember the details other than her recommending against it. Good luck.
5 :
CTCA are a for-profit organization. That being said, they offer a state-of -the art ,very comprehensive approach to cancer treatment.However,top-notch care is available in many medical centers, CTCA does not have the "edge" there. I believe they cater to, and focus on aspects of the healing precess not addressed by most hospitals. The senses, desires and emotions are included in the care process, they call it"patient empowerment medicine". Does the patient get what they pay for? I think it depends on the patient and his/her needs, some folks want a direct- "let's treat it and get on with it.." approach and some want a more holistic, all encompassing experiance...and are willing to pay the price.

How do I help my sister get through her breast cancer treatment

How do I help my sister get through her breast cancer treatment ?
My sister was recently told she has breast cancer. I am her big brother and not sure how to help get through this ordeal. I am so afraid of losing her. But I want to be supportive and not bring her down. What can I do?

1 :
just be there for her. if she needs something or needs to talk be there . in the meantime you are gonna need someone to talk to you yourself so you can be a good support for your sister............................good luck! e mail me if you want. I had a 3 yr old with cancer terrinjohn89@adelphia.net
2 :
Try to not bring it up, but when SHE does just tell her that you're there for her and let her now you're there all the way. Other then that, there is nothing else you can do. Physically, you can help her with daily tasks, like cleaning, etc... because the treatment she will recieve will more than likely weaken her. So just talk to her. Keep her mind off of it, and just love her like you always have. Having cancer is not a death sentence. Its a good chance she will be ok, remind her. Good luck to you and your sister.
3 :
First off, I'm very sorry for your sister's cancer. The waiting period is often difficult for a cancer patient, so listening to them, and sharing their pain can sometimes help. I also heard zoo therapy is good (bringing an animal boosts their feel-good hormones).I know you're afraid, but try and be hopeful, there are many people surviving the disease and your sister will be one of those too. I wish you both the best, God bless, -Sarah-
4 :
Clean her house, mow her lawn, buy her groceries, cook her meals, babysit for her....basically treat her like a queen! She needs all the support she can get AND she'll love you for it!
5 :
Offer to take her to appointments. Often times a sister needs her brother to talk to her and visit with her as he always has before. If you show her that you are positive that she'll pull through this then she will believe it herself. Remember that because she has cancer doesn't mean that she is a different person now. Best of luck to you, your sister and the rest of your family.
6 :
Just be there with her. The treatments can make her tired and sometimes sick. She just needs to know that you will be there for her, whether she is sad or happy. she needs to be able to talk to you and know when you are looking at her, that you don't feel sorry for her. Treat her the same as you always have. She will have good days and bad ones, but she has to know she can count on you. My very best to you and your sister.

Ask a library where the local breast cancer support groups are. You could also ask the library where other resources are, like for free food boxes, state income support for medical bills, local free medical clinics, etc. Also, God can help you live a better life if you want Him to help you. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end -- time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God's Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God's blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can't explain the world's natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner's prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: "Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus' name, amen." I'm Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. You could try out a Christian church and also see about their weekly Bible study group to learn about God's will for your life. You can pray to God about your daily life and ask a Christian church to pray for you too.

What do you think about Graviola as an alternative cancer treatment

What do you think about Graviola as an alternative cancer treatment?
It's been said that Graviola kills cancer cells and is 10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy but has only been tested on rats. Do you think it might have similar results if used on humans?

It could be beneficial. The best treatment is a combination of both.
2 :
If I was a rat and had cancer it would be my first choice of treatments, assuming the positive results being claimed were not produced just in a test tube. If I was a human with cancer and wanted to live, I'd see an oncologist as soon as possible because no substance like graviola has ever proven to be an effective tool against cancer other than on the internet where anyone can say anything and have zero real life proof to back up that statement. If graviola actually cured cancer in humans you can be assured that oncologists would be rushing to use it rather than letting their patients die of cancer.

1. It depends on the carrier. Some (like Kaiser Permanente) are non-profit, so their chief interest is actually allowing healthcare. 2. If they are for-profit, probably because they haven't found a loophole. They have probably tried to find a way out of the contract as the bills keep rolling in.
2 :
He was one of the lucky ones believe me I know people who developed cancer and after six months of treatment the company dropped them. Now what if that was your father?? then how would you feel about YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY???
3 :
Because that's what insurance companies are designed to do. But the left only shows the extreme cases of failures.
4 :
My condolences on the loss of your father. However your father's insurance is the exception not the norm. Most insurance companies would have dropped him a long time ago, or they would have greatly reduced his benefits. Volunteer on the oncology ward and I think your opinion on how GREAT insurance companies are will drastically change.
5 :
My insurance company has been paying for my cancer treatments for three years. There is no way Obama care could provide the excellent health care I have received. Most of the idiots saying your father was LUCKY have never had a major health issue. They cannot understand the consequences of single payer health care.
6 :
No one said they were "evil". That's over the top rhetoric from Right wingers. The fact is they put their profits in front of the insured. That's how they MAKE profits.
7 :
You are lucky. Overall in the industry, 50% of people who come down with a terminal illness have their insurance canceled. For some illnesses in some states it is 100%. ∠°)
8 :
. Your father had a good insurance plan and a good doctor to advocate for him and his care. Sorry for your loss. My mother had Medicare and I paid for an American Express Supplemental Policy. And she had a great team of doctors: her G.P. and her oncologist and a counselor. 1 1/2 years of treatment for breast cancer, including lymph node removal, left her a bald, puking, pain-wracked mess after surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, what is called "The Aggressive Protocol." She watched her father go through all that for 6 years in the 1950's, my father went through it for 4 years in the late 1970's, my brother went through it in 1984/5/6, then herself in 1993/4. They ALL died, all bald, puking, skeletal messes, clinging to life while barely alive. She had a living will, I was the executor: no extraordinary measures, no resuscitation, no intubation were the 3 big provisions. She had the foresight to have gone through HER "end of life" conference with her G.P and her lawyer YEARS before she ever got sick. When her heart exploded (hemopericardium, cardiac tamponade, and acute transmural infarction), she died an almost-instant, unconscious natural death. Her fear had been that she'd have an incident that left her vegetative, full of needles and tubes, semi-aware but immobile and she did NOT consider THAT to be "living." She also told me just before she died, a few weeks before her sudden heart attack, that she deeply regretted her choice to fight the cancer, the onset of which was when she was 75. If she could have done it all over again, she'd have chosen hospice care and lots of on-demand drugs (palliative care) rather than the mess that the standard treatment had left her. But there are no do-overs. The point is: she chose her manner of treatment, because she DID have the hospice option which her doctor had mentioned; and she had the end-of-life options because she made them, all thanks to a knowledgeable doctor AND because she had the foresight to research it, think about it and then she DID something about it. But her insurance would not pay for it: under the reform proposed, it would HAVE TO pay for the doctor's time to make that information available and to explain the options available. And that's only ONE of the proposed reforms... I honestly don't understand why people (other than Insurance Companies and their lobbyists and the masses of mis- and mal-informed) are objecting to these and other very rational provisions, which include over 160 REPUBLICAN amendments, which are being proposed. Teddy Roosevelt opted out of the Republican Party to form the Progressive (Bull Moose) party, because of the 'Pubs' opposition to his health care 'planks' in 1912. He was defeated in the election. Harry Truman tried in 1948: same result. Clinton tried in 1993/4: same result. And now we find ourselves in the same position in 2009. I must ask: AREN'T 97 GODDAMNED YEARS LONG ENOUGH TO WAIT? .
9 :
For the same reason my father's insurance paid for my mother's cancer care even though we don't have much money. And our insurance company is for-profit. When she beat her life-threatening cancer, which they paid for, they paid for treatment when it came back, and she beat it again. And whenever anyone in my family gets sick we go to the doctor the next day or two, literally. The Canadian plan being glorified would have us waiting. I take it you know this, but when the left looks straight at you and says insurance companies dump you for getting sick, they are lying to your face.

Is there any successful cancer treatment for dogs

Is there any successful cancer treatment for dogs?
Besides the treatment to give a dog more months to live...is there any successful treatment that would give years to a dog? I don't know yet...I will have the results in 2 days. I am just preparing myself for the worse... because my husband does not want to do the treatment if it's not proven to work... and I am like totally lost. she does have a liver problem, but it could be something else.

What kind of cancer??
2 :
It is going to depend on what kind of cancer, just like the cancers that humans get. Some are curable, some at this time, are not.
3 :
I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I don't know about you, but I'm really into alternative/holistic medicine. Especially if the vet says there is no cure, I'd research alternative health remedies. These aren't "proven to work" but for the most part they're not expensive, not time-consuming and won't do any harm. I've tried a few anti-cancer "cures." My evidence is just anecdotal, but I've found that they've worked very well. I suggest you try the Budwig diet. This was developed by a German biochemist, Ph.D. and seven-time Nobel prize nominee. The good thing about this cancer treatment is that it uses foods that most dogs naturally love, so no forcing nasty stuff down your dog's throat. In simplest terms, you need a hand-held blender to blend cottage cheese and flax-seed oil. Read about it yourself at these websites: http://www.cancure.org/budwig_diet.htm http://www.cancertutor.com/Cancer/Budwig.html http://www.healingcancernaturally.com/pet-cancer-cure-testimonials.html http://www.holisticdog.org/Symptoms/D_E_F/Flaxseed/flaxseed.html I found a lump in my dog's belly. He's rather old and I knew that it would likely take surgery just to figure out what it was and I didn't want to put him through that. My mom, though, is a nurse. I showed it to her and she thinks it's probably cancer. I started giving my dog the Budwig diet every day and the lump has gotten smaller. Since I'm making, I take it as well since it's supposed to have a lot of health benefits. I have also tried Hulda Clark's method, which actually seemed to be very successful, but the nutrients and tinctures don't taste too good, so you need to force it down your dog's throat, which is no fun. That's why I prefer the Budwig protocol. http://www.amazon.com/Cure-All-Cancers-Including-Histories/dp/1890035009/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-5667176-8248749?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1189043004&sr=8-1
4 :
It depends on a lot of different factors: the type of cancer, what stage the cancer is in, where the cancer is located, whether or not it has metastasized, the age and overall health of the dog. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation are all available for animals—your vet can suggest what she thinks is the best option. Ask you vet about oncology specialists in your area if your dog does have cancer. Cornell, Tufts and Angell animal medical centers are all excellent; perhaps you can call one of them and ask some questions. I am so sorry to hear about your dog. (One of my cats died of a very aggressive form of cancer.) Best wishes, Cat
5 :
If it is an early stage cancer in a very small contained form surgery works well. And I completely agree with Cleoppa on this. I would look into alternative care. I would never personally give chemo or radiation to my dog. In dogs they usually turn to chemo and surgery. Chemo is cruel, and the dogs die anyway. But the life they live before they die is greatly diminished in quality. I would never do that to my dog.
