If they are talking about her NOT having chemo her chances are very good indeed .Best of luck.

I am sorry you are going through this. There is absolutely no way to tell you with certainty how long someone has - as each person has their own physical makeup and responds to cancer differently. My father survived 15 months with very severe bone cancer with much Hospice pain management. I know another person with cancer who only lasted 3 months in the last stage. It is really so dependent on the person and how their body responds. Best of thoughts go out to you.

Hi, i know how you feel... Cause i am also experiencing it now. To answer your questions, you can consider taking the same treatment my mother is going through now, which is chemo. My mum is also diagnosed with lung cancer, but wasn't unsure of the stages my mum lung cancer is at now, as my doctor say nothing about it. My mum's doctor actually recommended my mum to take a medicine call "Gefitinib", which is also a medicine for cancer. The effect the medicine produces is not very efficient, but you can ask the doctor about this medicine, whether is it useful for you dad. As for my mum, the medicine is not useful and not taking any effect. Therefore my mum's doctor decided to take the "only" medicine for cancer, Chemo. Until now, i believe there is still no cure for cancer, only suppress and kills the cancer cells. But from what i know, if after the Chemo, and say to have killed all the cancer cells, the patients also have to wait for another 5 years, to make sure there he/she is completely recovered from cancer, before he/she is declared "Recovered" Even there is cure for cancer beside Chemo, only the riches of the riches... can afford such a medicine, and it is a mystery to everyone.

I hate to tell you this, but I have worked in a hospital AND i have had family members with terminal illnesses (including lung cancer) and I firmly believe in honesty. Lung cancer is always fatal, you can look it up but thus far the longest anyone has survived after diagnosis is about 5 years. You have options, your fathers physicians will most likely suggest chemo or radiation or a combination of the two, this will shrink the tumor and hopefully give your father longer to live. If you are not satisfied with this, you can try experimental treatments (tcm clinics in China, stem cell treatment in singapore, etc). However I think your best bet right now would be to go to a major cancer treatment center, like sloan kettering or the mayo clinic and see what they say. they will have the latest treatments. Lastly my experience working at a hospital taught me this. Don't let the doctors be the end all of your information source. There are SO SO SO many alternative treatments that have worked. And while they may not be the cure, they can help. Do research, even diet and exercise can help. There are multiple sclerosis patients who have remained symptom free and able to live a normal life (I wont say cured because there are so many restrictions) because of something called the best bet diet. There are lupus patients who have had success eating seaweed and doing tai-chi. My grand-mother survived with lung cancer for two years post diagnosis when every doctor she met said she had one at the most. I wish you the best, I can't imagine how painful this must be for you. Remember, RESEARCH, look around, the doctors do not know everything.

I had an aunt who had cancer a few years ago, I'm not sure what kind but she found out about a drug called Sodium Phenylbutryate, that Doctor Burzynski, in Houston Texas has been curing all types of cancer with for years now. My Aunt went and saw him and is now cancer free and feeling great....look into this, just type in his name, Dr.Burzynski on the internet and he has a huge website that you can look at, as well as phone numbers you can phone for more information. If he helped my Aunt im sure he can help your Father....Good Luck!

Stage 3A is best treated by either 4 cycles of cheotherapy (ciplatin doublet) followed by Radiotherapy or Concurrent radiotherapy and Chemotherapy (both chemo and RT given together) geftinib is not for the patient alone...however if he was a NEVER SMOKER it may benefit with chemotherapy but not alone upfront

Cervical cancer? if you have cin3 how long does it take before it turns into cancer without treatment

Cervical cancer? if you have cin3 how long does it take before it turns into cancer without treatment?
if someone doesn't have a leep, etc. and has cin3 how long does it usually take before it turns into cancer my doctor says he doesn't want to freeze them off or do the leep, etc. that we will just wait till it turns into cancer and then give me a hysterectomy cause he says 80% of the time it comes back anyway.

Usually, years. My gyn/onc put it this way: If CIN 3 is left untreated for one year, it only has a 3% chance of becoming cancer. Also, CIN 3 only has about a 25% of becoming cancer EVER. In many cases it just stays CIN 3 forever, and often is just goes back to normal!! Still, this is something you need to take very seriously. A 25% chance of cancer is actually pretty big. You should have this treated. Is there a reason you (or whoever you are asking this question for) is hesitating about the LEEP? ********************* Your doctor is ON CRACK get a second opnion ASAP!!! First of all, if you are done having kids, you could just go ahead and get a hysterectomy RIGHT NOW. Why would you wait for it to become cancer???? That is CRAZY. Also, CIN 3 does NOT return 80% of the time!!!!! The recurrence rate after the LEEP is only 5% if they remove the entire lesion, and 20% if they don't. And a second LEEP is curative for most women who have to have it. It's extremely rare for this to be a continuing problem.

Do train electrical wires pose a radiation threat? My daughter recenty went through cancer treatment

Do train electrical wires pose a radiation threat? My daughter recenty went through cancer treatment...?
I am thinking about purchasing a house within a quarter of a mile of a train track that has high wires connected above the train for electricity. I don't want to put my daughter in a position where radiation is emitted because she has already been exposed to radiation and chemo and she is still young.

No, electricity doesn't make radiation, just an electromagnetic field that is harmless.
2 :
While I certainly respect the answer from the electrical contractor, I have always heard that there is a greater risk of cancer to those who live by the high tension electric wires. Don't know if it's true or not. Having been through chemo myself - i wouldn't want to take the chance.

What length of hair is suitable to donate to be made into a wig for a child undergoing treatment for cancer

What length of hair is suitable to donate to be made into a wig for a child undergoing treatment for cancer?
I'm cutting my 3-yr-old daughter's hair for the first time. How long should I make the clippings to be suitable for donation? It's very fine, and I think I can easily cut 6". I'm cutting my 3-yr-old daughter's hair for the first time. How long should I make the clippings to be suitable for donation? It's very fine and straight. I think I can easily cut 6". Locks for Love just says it wants 10-12" as a donation and will take 6-10" to be sold to raise money to offset manufacturing costs. That looks like a one size fits all requirment. Is there any special consideration that this hair will be from a 3-year old?

Locks of Love will accept hair donations that measure between 6 and 10 inches in length. You can read other guidelines at their website listed below. EDIT: Try calling their human resources or customer service department to speak to a representative. They may be able to help you with this particular question. They may have special rules for "young hair" being donated for young patients. If there is nothing mentioned about it on the website, a policy may not exist, but the only way for sure is to give them a ring!
2 :
I'm not positive but I think the 'Locks of love' lengths are a minimum of 8 inches. Try doing a search for them. I feel sure they will have the info. It's great that you want to do that for someone.
3 :
That should be fine, but any additional length would be all the better. The last time I did that, I wound up with a guy's haircut, but I got to donate around 14 inches in length. It was really cool. (Not the haircut, the donating. Hair grows back for those of us fortunate enough to be healthy.) Good luck.
4 :
Locks of Love wants the hair to be put in a pony tail and then cut it. It would need to be atleast 12" to donate. I have leukemia and now that my hair is coming back I am going to try to let it grow in length to donate, its been 27 yrs. since I had long hair and I don't know if I will be able to stand it. The hair also cannot be colored with hair color and yes they do take gray hair. A friend at church donated 33" of her blond and gray hair and is letting it grown for another donation.
5 :
The general public is confused about Locks of Love. They make very few wigs for children with cancer (less than 10 percent). The reason is that children with cancer lose their hair from chemotherapy, which is a temporary loss. Locks of Love predominately makes wigs for children with permanent hair loss (alopecia is a condition. it is not cancer). Please read their website as it explains WHO will get a wig. If it does not matter to you how they use the hair you donate than that's okay, but if you believe you are honoring cancer patients or doing something for a child with cancer . . you are not. If you want to donate hair for children who have lost hair from cancer treatments, the only charitable organization that will do this is Wigs for Kids: http://www.wigsforkids.org/ They require a minimum of 12 inches.

I'm very sorry to hear this. Stomach cancer is generally very painful and can be difficult to treat. It does not respond well to traditional chemo-therapy. The herbal treatments may reduce pain, but they will not treat the cancer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stomach_cancer
3 :
My Mom's an RN and she says that in her experience stomach, pancreatic and colon cancers are death sentences. Not trying to be grim, but that's reality with traditional treatments. However, I'd highly recommend the book A Cancer Battle Plan by Anne and Dave Frahm. Maybe it will help. And see Ann Fonfa's story at http://www.annieappleseed.com. Both had breast cancer, both beat it naturally. Ann Fonfa said her breast cancer was reversed with diet and herbs, only she found out what worked after she had a double mastectomy. Even after the mastectomy, she still had tumors on her chest. She said after an herbalist introduced her to herbs so had no more tumors to come back on her chest wall. See my post here http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AsVDsQ5CGwkzhx56UqlGDR7sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071205122515AAOl6ju&show=7#profile-info-hV6AXIukaa for more info. The key to remember is that you may need to experiment somewhat to find what works for you. But use the resources to see what steps others have taken. And don't forget about http://www.hacres.com and http://www.cancertutor.com.
4 :
I would suggest that you seek out another opinion or a third opinion at a designated comprehensive cancer center. Each state has one and they are among the best research and treatment facilities in the world. NCI: Cancer Centers http://cancercenters.cancer.gov/cancer_centers/cancer-centers-list.html Each patient is an individual and so I do not know why his doctor recommended no chemotherapy. It can be effective depending on the stage of the cancer and the health of the patient. It may be that the patients overall health is not good enough to undergo chemo . . but there are many different kinds of chemo and dosages can be adjusted. Seek out another opinion to see what they say. NCCN: Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology - Gastric Cancer http://www.nccn.org/professionals/physician_gls/PDF/gastric.pdf You should also contact a support group to see what treatment they have tried . . what works . . what doesn't . . and what doctors they would recommend. Does anyone know about bone cancer, best treatment and best hospital

Does anyone know about bone cancer, best treatment and best hospital?
She finished her 6 months treatment for breast cancer and everything was reported normal for 3 months then she started to feel pain in her backbone again and when doctors tested again then it was bone cancer. Now she is having first of 6 kemo therapy.

I suggest checking out Houston MD Anderson Cancer Centers on of the leading cancer centers in the nation. They are known for cutting edge treatment and may have trials that she can participate in where she will get all her treatment for free. Best of luck.
2 :
More likely, the situation is breast cancer that metastasized to the bone not primary bone cancer. In other words, the cancer in her bones came from the breast cancer and has characteristics of breast cells not bone. Breast cancer metatases are not uncommon, you can get standard treatment from most major hospitals. If you are looking for something more aggressive, try exploring clinical trials at a Comprehensive Cancer Center like JHU, MDACC, MSKCC or, the Mayo Clinic just to name a few. http://www.clinicaltrials.gov
3 :
I agree that this sounds more like breast cancer spread to bone. Sometimes biopsy is worthwhile to confirm but in some circumstances starting treatment is OK without one. For treatment, chemotherapy will treat the whole body, it may not relieve her pain. If it doesn't, then radiation treatment can be helpful at relieving her pain. I hope your friend feels better soon!
