Does cancer make your hair fall out or treatment for cancer

Does cancer make your hair fall out or treatment for cancer?
A long time ago I heard that cancer itself does not make your hair fall out that the chemo treatment causes it. Recently I just heard that having cancer can make your hair fall out before chemo is even started. What is true?

The chemo make your hair fall out not the cancer itsself **my aunts had cancer (breast) one had just radiation and didnt lose her hair the other had chemo and lost her hair.
2 :
chemotherapy is what makes your hair fall out
3 :
Chemotherapy makes your hair fall out because it kills the fastest growing cells which is directed at cancer cells but also includes your hair cells.

the treatment

duh. the treatment

it is the chemo that makes your hair fall out because chemo kills cells to get rid of the cancer. hair falling out is a side effect because chemo cant exactly distinguish between good and bad cells and it ends up killing hair cells. i suppose that there may be a type of cancer that makes hair fall out on it's own but cancer is a tumor usually, and i have yet to hear of a cancer that does makes your hair fall out.

Chemotherapy is the cause because it does not just kill the cancer cells, it kills other ones too, and this causes the hair to fall out.

the chemotherapy

Many, but not all, chemotherapy regimes cause hair loss. Some cause hair thinning, and some don't cause hair loss at all. Radiotherapy/radiation is a localised treatment and doesn't cause hair loss unless it's to a part of the body that has hair, such as the head. Cancer doesn't cause hair loss.
