How can Cancer make people life's miserable? Give Details:- How much cancer treatment cost and if insurances ?

oh, i don't know how about the horrifying pain, horrifying pain tends to make people miserable.
2 :
As a cancer patient, we are often unhappy because there are so many cancers (around 200 different ones), and doctors often don't have time to reassure patients properly - so you feel you are neglected and in a 'fog'. And often the stories one hears about treatment and side effects are enough to upset anyone! I set up a website HAVING FUN AFTER CANCER www.after-cancer.com to try and reassure fellow patients, and tell them that life does go on and there are lots of nice things we can do to make ourselves feel better. Hope this might help. Verite R

I would know very little about the cost. Except it put a friend of mine ten thousand dollars in the hole. For medicines that were not covered. As for the cost of my cancer treatment-I live in Ontario and Ontario Health Insurance Plan and Ontario Drug Benefit pay for it. And yes cancer is a miserable ¢¥ pain the rear. It felt like my life came to screeching halt the day I was diagnosed. There was no sense of time, direction or security any more. Fortunately I had two very powerful weapons to rely on. My faith in God and the military psychological training handed down by my father. He taught me to never let a problem overwhelm me. The solution is very simple. Break the problem into its component pieces and solve the pieces one at a time. Once I did that I could decide what information I needed, and what to do about treatment, my life, and my future. Curiously the quest for information was the catalyst to starting to live again. I lost all my hair due to chemotherapy so I sprouted a big collection of hats and scarves along with an in your face attitude. During radiation treatment I was a horrible patient for staying close to the Daffodil Lodge. As soon as my treatment was done for the day, I was gone out the door. And I teased the heck out of my radiation team. Managed to get them laughing daily.

There is nothing good about cancer period! So from hearing the diagnosis it is all down hill from that point on in your life! When those words are said that tell you that you have cancer your life becomes a whirlwind of going into doctor's offices to get probed and poked, x-rayed and every scan done to you imaginable. Then in our case we went to Chemotherapy one day a week for 15 weeks. Every week was worse than the others as far as what the side-effects are. It is great if you enjoy: Fatigue, sickness, sore-throats, nails breaking off your fingers and toes, constipation, body aches and pains, blood draws, losing your hair, Ports surgically put into your chest, daily injections of drugs that increase white blood counts, surgery (in our case a mastectomy), measuring your drain that comes out of your side every two hours and emptying it, taking pain medications because the surgery hurts, and now more chemotherapy which is causing nerve damage in the fingers and toes, and worrying about if when you stop this kind of chemotherapy how long will you still have nerve damage. Not being able to taste salt or sugars, and then radiation everyday except the weekends for the next six weeks. So more fatigue and sickness, body burns, and when it is all done: You will still be fighting your insurance company for all the co-pays, medical deductions, double billings, and all kinds of medical expenses. In my case I still pay 30% of all prescription medications, and had to fight them because they did not think some scans were covered and I just wanted them. So far medical expenses are $220,000 and medications are $50,000+ and oh yes, my wife was the major wage earner so I had to work 60+ hours in summer and take care of all the cooking, cleaning, and everything else that needed to be done around the house. Now it is slow at work, my wife has not worked for the last 6 months, she tried to go back to work but she could not take the stress and cried for hours and we decided that she should quit. The most embarrassing thing for me is that we had to ask her parents for financial help. Before this happened we were doing pretty good, but now I am so depressed, scared, and sad. Sometimes I don't want to go on, it would be nice to end it all. I give up. But I go on for my wife and I will never desert her. If you want to see miserable, depressed, sad, tired, and all that, well here I am. People say, "Well, it could be worse", and I know it but for once I would like to see something go my way. My wife has 6 more Taxol treatments to live through and already she is crying because it hurts her fingers and toes. AND THERE IS NOTHING I CAN REALLY DO. So, how is would that make you feel? I hate cancer, I thought our lives were pretty good, and it has knocked me down to depths of despair I never thought possible. And I am scared it could get worse, my in-laws moved away so now I feel alone. Before they were around and my wife could talk to her mom. Now she can't. Oh, well..I could go on and on, but what for?

go to the following links and you will soon know the real truth.......
2 :
It would depend on the site of the cancer. 4 siblings in my family have had radiation treatment for cancers, 2 in similar locations, the other 2 quite different and we have had 3 very different experiences. Breast cancer, 4 dot tattoos were made to line up treatments with to ensure each treatment went to the correct place. 5 days a week for 5 weeks, the treatment was given, took about 10 minutes to ensure everything exactly right position and about 30 seconds for the treatment. by week 4, burns to the surface skin in the area and skin peeling away, last week very painful with ointment being applied after each treatment and covered in plastic wrap to keep the area moist - yuk! Tonsil cancer, a clear mask was made to fit the lower face & neck, molded to patient, with a grid on the mask for lining up treatments. Skin surface was tender, so it was lucky that the radiation caused hair in area to fall out as it would have been too painful to shave. Internally, throat was too painful to swallow and a naso-gastric tube was used for feeding in the last week of treatment. Uterine cancer, radiation was applied internally, with the patient needing to lie completely still in isolation for 24 hours. Treatment was suspended whenever anyone (nurse etc) had to enter the room or if the patient needed to move. Patient reported worst experience of her life. Hope that helps.

My husband had neck cancer, maligant neoplasm of oropharynx, unspecified. He had a laryngoscopy, a tonsil taken out and a biosy of his tongue. 90% of it was cut out and a nerve was taken out of his shoulder. The other 10% was too close to the main artery to take out. My husband had the strongest radiation there is twice a day for 7 weeks. A porter cath was put in his chest for the kemo treatments. He had 2 8 hours kemo trearments. One time after a radiation treatment, the conbination of the meds, crashed his blood pressure and he fell on the floor. After the first 3 weeks he was so weak he could not walk. he threw up bile. He choked a lot. He was in the hospital under 24 hour skilled nursing care the last 4 weeks. He was fed threw a feeding tube, sticking out of his belly. It took hours for the liquod to drip into his stomach. He could not swollow because the radition fried his throat. ruined his salava glands and taste buds. His neck was burned and cream was put on his neck. When His kemo doctor saw him, she said no more kemo. He was given morphine for pain and for nausa, phenergan and antibiotics. His immune system was down, so he developed herpy sores in his mouth. The antibiotic was changed. Before the ambulance drivers took him for his treatments, he was given morphine and nausia medicine. He was given morphine and phenagen on a regular basics. And he lost hair on the back of his head and on the left side of his face. His voice started sounding froggy. There is a lot of pain and nausia with these treatments. He had regular pet scans to check to see if the cancer came back anywhere. He had radiation damage to his shoulder. Later a spur grew on that shoulder and it had to be removed. That was 3 years ago. He still has a hard time swallowing, tasting and no salava. He has pain in his shoulder. The day will come when he will have to have a balloon procedure to widen his throat.

You can find some of the answers on www.after-cancer.com Look up Aloe Vera (helpful gel) - this could give you ideas of what can help during treatment. Good luck with book Verite R
5 :
To get your facts straight I would go to an onocologist and ask your questions. Don't know if they will charge money to talk t them, but if you are writing a book, you really want to get the facts. I don't know if a cancer yahoogroup will let you join, as some of them are very picky about who joins. They really protect. I am on the lung, and thyroid cancer groups. Thyroid cancer patients receive radiation. I just went through that less than two weeks ago. My mom has lung cancer and went through a different type of radiation (10 treatments) in all. I just had to take a couple of pills.
6 :
There are many treatments and they vary based on the type and location of the cancer. An oncologist will request a certain radiation dose (a measure of energy deposited into the tumor) be given, then medical physicists and dosimetrists will develop a treatment plan that details how and when the radiation will be delivered. The treatment plan is developed to minimize the radiation dose to healthy tissue as much as possible while delivering the desired dose to the tumor. The radiation dose will be fractioned over a period of weeks to allow the healthy tissue to heal. Some cancers (primarily thyroid) are treated with radioactive material, Iodine-131, that is injected or taken in pill form. This is usually a single dose and is done as an outpatient procedure. However the patient has to take care to limit the amount of time they spend around others, especilly children for the first week or so following the trreatment. In some cases if the patient can not avoid being around people at home they stay in the hospital for a few days. You could talk to an oncologist or a medical physicist to get more details. The physicist will generally have more time, as they do not have appointments with patients all day.
7 :
Mine was to my head for brain cancer. I had a mask molded to me head so I couldn't move during the treatment. I laid on a table, they hooked my mask to the table and left the room. It took all of 5 minutes to complete my radiation. 5 days a week for 6 weeks. A lot more mucous in my throat and a metallic taste. It doesn't feel like anything. My hair fell out where the radiation went in and came out and it turned the skin on the side of my face and skull brown, which went away about a month or so after my treatments were over. To the TD moron who is following me around again, are you saying MY treatments were not correct? Idiot.

Does the government GAIN or lose money from cancer treatment equipment and operations

Does the government GAIN or lose money from cancer treatment equipment and operations?

1 :
i hope to god gain because that's my field of interest
2 :
The government hands out HUGE amounts of money for cancer research, the government always looses money.
3 :
The government neither gains nor loses money on medical treatment or equipment, unless you include tax revenues, which is nominal at best,
4 :
The Government gains, and we lose, big time ! For proof, do a search on ' A World without Cancer '.When the page comes up, click onto the 55 minute Video by G. Edward Griffin. It's probably over 20 years old, but still very relevant. And, it's totally free. Please take the time to watch this all the way through. You'll be glad you did ! Hope this helps !
5 :
im sure they gain billions thats why they do it.
6 :
They loose money. The gov has paid all of my medical expenses, my living expenses, and my food since I was diagnosed in Jan of 2005. Do you REALLY think the gov is making money when they are paying that kind of money out to treat the patients?
7 :
medical billing -radiation ocology specialists- my field not that I enjoy it -just- unfortuately there I am good neither doctors nor insurances nor government gain losses every where I have seen -in this field- equipment billed by dr and hospital -alike- may see about 20 to 30 -in percent- tens of thousands -owed- the drs in turn -write off- even more if the insurance does not par -out of network- and family -unable to pay- a dr -I worked 4- down your way designed created equipment and operates it he bills for treatment hospital bills operations -of his ingeniusness- and neither win -government- does not -either- family -of pt- and pt himself may if the treatment works

You are misinformed or have misunderstood. Nobody is turned away from cancer treatment. Perhaps the doctor that she visited does not accept medicare or medicade patients, but he can refer her to doctors that will accept them. The first thing you should do is call a medical social worker, they are usually in a cancer clinic, doctors office, or at the hospital. They can direct you to funding. She probably will qualify for medicade if her income or assets are below a certain level. She may also qualify for the Hill-Burton Program, which essentially covers a number of facilities and hospitals that receive federal funding to cover costs of low income patients for free or at low cost. There are many other options as well, but you need to be talking to healthcare providers about this issue. There is help out there, but you need to go out and find it. If you are still having trouble, call your local American Cancer Society for advice: http://www.cancer.org/ Still having problems, try calling CancerCare (they have social workers who will help you online): http://www.cancercare.org/ Cancer Care Financial Assistant Info http://www.cancercare.org/get_help/assistance/cc_financial.php Your Mom probably qualifies for Medicare. The American Cancer Society has a list of resources that you should read over: Medical Insurance and Financial Assistance for the Cancer Patient http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MIT/content/MIT_3_2X_Medical_Insurance

I wouldn't even take a guess with this...your bodies genetics, your immune system, your age…your risk factors, what type of cell changes were found…would encompass this wild guess… CIN 3 has a very good likelihood at progressing..some articles say as high as 40% could progress....because it is already felt that if the lesions is of this degree have been in place for some time…but some women with CIN 3 never progress to a cancer. I am not sure why you would want to risk this progress when treatments will probably remove the abnormal cervical cell changes?? I hope you will follow your doctor recommendation...or get a second opinion...if you are not comfortable with his recommendations. I wish you well.

Five hundred years ago, people said the world was flat. Today, people say that if the FDA and AMA haven't blessed something, it can't be real good. Well, here's something I know to be real AND good. It's a little different take on cancer treatment-- In 1990, I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma, stage 3-B, but I've survived. My doctors were great people, but they were limited to surgery, chemo and radiation by profitable AMA treatment policy. During the year in treatment, I started learning about alternative medicine. I'm a retired engineer, and this is what I've pieced together--our IMMUNE SYSTEMS become weakened by poor nutrition, lack of exercise and reduced oxygen. Once that happens, our body becomes vulnerable to common STRESSORS. Stressors can be environmental, like viruses, heavy metals, pesticides, food additives, electromagnetic waves or pollution. They can be internal things like emotional or job stress, or poisonous people in our lives. Aging is also a contributing factor. So this means: WEAK IMMUNE SYSTEM + STRESSORS = DISEASE (cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc.) Our bodies have 60 trillion--yes, trillion--cells, and there are always some mutating into cancer cells, but a healthy immune system kills them before they have a chance to get a foothold in the body. It takes a LONG time, usually, or a high level of stressors, to weaken the immune system to the point where it won't do its job, but once cancer has formed, it will generally spread rapidly. THIS IS IMPORTANT! There are ways to BEAT cancer that are currently being used in Europe and around the world, and there are some great books on the subject. I know because I've read about 50 of them from cover to cover. Here's a list of the best ones. Some are out of print and getting hard to find-- "The Cure for All Cancers", ISBN 0963632825 "A Cancer Therapy", ISBN 0882681052 "Oxygen Therapies", ISBN 0962052701 "Hydrogen Peroxide--Medical Miracle", ISBN 1885236077 "The Natural Cure for Cancer--Germanium", ISBN 0533071410 "Killing Cancer", ISBN 0705000966 "Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About", ISBN 0975599518 I know of people whose cancer has 'spontaneously remitted' (WENT AWAY for no known reason) AFTER they went on programs of herbs and nutrition to restart their immune systems. You and your family must look out for yourselves to stand a chance of being healthy. This is not a joke, and I'm not selling anything--just trying to help. I am using the things I learned in those books right now to fight off a second infestation of cancer. I've been at it for over a year now, and think I'm going to make it. Use what works for you, and pass on your success. Best of luck. AMA AND FDA-- The American Medical Association (AMA) and the pharmaceutical companies control medical law and the FDA in this country with heavy lobbying and a revolving door policy. WHY would they want to do this? It's about the money. In 2004, medicine (doctors, hospitals, researchers and pharmaceutical firms) received 1.1 TRILLION dollars--1/4th of the total earnings (GNP 4.4 trillion) in the U.S. This is astounding, it means MILLIONS of people worked the whole year just to pay the nation's medical expenses!! That's totally astounding, and just too big to care about individuals. http://www.altcancer.com/video/hoxsey_ds... <http://www.altcancer.com/video/hoxsey_DSL.wmv>

Hi, sounds like the chemo and radiation may have weakened your immune system. You may want to try a nutritional product called Total Immune Booster .It seems to work well with yeast infections.Another nutritional product that is called Beta 1,3-D Glucan is a primary treatment for cancer in Asia.It triggers an immune response in the body, creating a system against viral, bacterial, fungal, parasitic or neoplastic(abnormal tissue growth)invaders. It helps people undergoing radiation or chemotherapy by boosting the immune system. You can find complete data at www.dna911.info
