And if an inmate's condition gets too bad, and the system feels it costs too much to maintain the treatment, in some states they can apply for a medical reprieve, meaning that they can be released under supervision if their prognosis is very grim. Check your state and see if they grant medical reprieves, or check your state to see what prisons are medical prisons or ones who general house very ill inmates.

Yes, there was a case here in WA where a man had been sentenced to death. He refused to take lethal injection because he was "deathly afraid" of needles (I still can't figure that one out but ok..), and they couldn't hang him because he was so fat they didn't think the rope would break his neck so he would strangle to death (which was cruel and inhumane). So while he was sitting on death row he ended up having kidney failure (because he was so fat). The state PAID for him to get a new kidney. I couldn't believe it. I think they should have forced him to go on a diet so they could hang the stupid fat perverted f#%k.

In this country, no one can be denied health care, espescially someone in state custody. In New Jersey, if the person has private insurance coverage, his policy has to pay for him until it runs out. If an inmate has no insurance, than the state pays for meds and treatment. If they are in advanced stages of the disease, they are housed in a hospital wing in the prison. And the treatment is strictly bare bones.

Unfortunately if a prison inmate finds out that they have cancer, then yes, they will get treated. In our system of "justice" the rapists, thieves, killers, molesters actually have a better life than what we do. Granted they are there for a reason, but I don't think that since they did their crime, they should be allowed the same conveniences that we have.

unfortunatly it's required by law to give any care necassary to inmates even if they are screw ups and cant be a well mannered human being.

In California, yes, they are given treatment, and in some cases if it is terminal with only a few months to live, they are released early.

In Virginia, inmates used to get whatever medical treatment was needed. Then George Allen (son of the former coach of the Washington Redskins) was elected Governor. He's now in the U.S. Senate. George said it was not right for inmates to get free medical treatment when the taxpayers have to pay for thier own medical treatment. So now inmates must pay towards their own medical insurance. And must make co-payments each time they have a medical treatment. Most prison jobs for inmates only pay $0.10 to $0.25/hour. Having to make the co-payments has cut down on the number of visits inmates make to doctors, dentists, etc. Many prisons also have tel-medicine. Basically, the ability to run medical test & see the results over the Internet. This is to avoid, when possible, having to transport an inmate beyond the prison walls.
