Where are the top sites in the US for thyroid cancer evaluation and treatment

Where are the top sites in the US for thyroid cancer evaluation and treatment?
Female, 62 years, on Synthroid for 20+ years after thyroid stopped functioning. Recent ultrasound shows two solid nodules (under 2 cm, one in each lobe) and a 3rd nodule "in the upper pole." Thyroglobulin blood test abnormal. Hoarse voice. Had thyroid scan today. Internist felt growth 3 wks ago which prompted ultrasound. Internist suggests biopsies next at area diagnostic center. Earliest date available Oct. 10. Is this good advice or should I seek endocrinologist exam now? Am a 6 year uterine cancer survivor at an excellent, regional cancer center, which does very little with thyroid cancer. What are the top centers for thyroid cancer? What would you recommend doing in my situation?

I have a great article on Cancer Breakthroughs. Email me your email address so I can attach the article and send it to you. It is excellent!!!

I had tumors on my thyroid and had it removed when I was seven years old. I would definitely talk to an endocrinologist, if I were you. No matter whether the advice you were given was good or not, the endocrinologist will know what is best for you. Baylor in Dallas is an excellent hospital. They've done all of my thyroid related surgeries.

I would go for the biopsy and make an appointment with an endocrinologist at the same time. An endocrinologist would almost certainly recommend a biopsy as the next step so you might as well get that done sooner than later. Endocrinologists tend to be busy (since they also deal with diabetes) so often it can take a few weeks or sometimes even months to get an appointment. I'm sure you're panicking but try to remember it's very unlikely you have thyroid cancer. Nodules are very common and 95% of the time they are not cancer. I was one of the unlucky 5% that ended up with thyroid cancer (at age 33), but 1.5 years later I seem to be just fine. I live in Boston and my surgeon specializes in endocrine surgery, that's the most important thing to look for. I included a link below that includes helpful info on how to find the best doctor (scroll to the bottom of the page).

Can you cure testicular cancer without treatment

Can you cure testicular cancer without treatment?
By that I mean being healthy and eating right. Im just saying is it possible?

there is no cure just treatment
2 :
if you could do that then millions of people wouldnt have cancer
3 :
No. Not if it is a diagnosed cancer . . eventually the disease will grow large enough to metastasize throughout the entire body. Lance Armstrong tried to ignore the symptoms of testicular cancer as well and ended up with metastatic lesions in his brain and abdomen. But seriously . . if all you needed to do was stay healthy and 'eat right' . . than there would be no cancer . .right? Cancer is an ancient disease and up until the last 40 years there were very few survivors . . people just got sick and died due to lack of treatments. At least today we have choices. So, no . . testicular cancer cannot be 'cured' without treatment.

How has cancer treatment advanced in the past 20 years

How has cancer treatment advanced in the past 20 years?

Cancer - 3 Answers

1 :
Chemotherapy and radiation have advanced so that in many cases the treatment can be customized to the patient and directed to attack only the malignant cells, leaving the healthy cells intact. Also, with the complete mapping of the human genome, it is easier to identify what genes are affected by the different types of cancers. When my grandfather was diagnosed over 60 years ago with lymphoma he was treated with mustard gas, which left him with gaping wounds. When I had breast cancer 5 years ago, I was able to better tolerate chemo because of medications designed to make the process a little easier (antihistimines, steroids, antinausea meds...)
2 :
Most advancements have been in detecting cancer rather than in treatment. There are a few new treatments though. Some of the more successful use a combination of angiogenesis inhibitors with a traditional treatment (chemo, radiation, surgery, etc). But there has been little or no progress toward a cure. Despite new detection methods and treatment, the death rate for cancer has dropped only 5% in the last 60 years! That is an absurd number compared to heart disease, which dropped 64% over the same amount of time. I think you'll find my source interesting. Edit: I saw this article today and thought of your question. (See my second source). Apparently this new drug reduced the size of inherited breast and prostate tumors in a trial.
3 :
The greatest advance has been the development of genetically engineered therapies to inhibit specific forms of cancer. The greatest single success story is probably Herceptin - the super drug that disrupts highly aggressive HER2+ breast cancer. Herceptin reduces HER2+ breast cancer recurrence by 30% to 50% . . . a stunningly large value in the world of cancer treatment. Over 100,000 women worldwide are projected to have already had their lives saved by Herceptin. Over the next 20 years, the cumulative number of lives saved by Herceptin will exceed 1,000,000.

Is there an exercise program for patients during cancer treatment with Chemotherapy and Radiation

I had cancer, went thru chemo and rads.. Exercise is a good thing in moderation. Some people are more able than others to do more. It depends on how one feels after a treatment. I personally felt much better after rads, than after chemo.

Can a 17 yr old refuse medical treatment for cancer?boy friend talking her out of treatment ,negligent homoci
Boy friend does not want her to have treatment, threatens to leave her? She is in counseling ,mental health problems, since age 15.

If he's threatening to leave her because she wants to try to survive longer, then there's something wrong with him. What the hell is going on?
2 :
all treatments for patients under the age of 18 need parental or guardian conset. if the boyfriend doesn't want it, which is pretty much weird, he's out of luck her parents do, WHICH i think they probably do. this is interesting.
3 :
depending on the age of consent in the state, my state the age is 15, so yes in most instances she could refuse tx, unless she is deemed insane and unable to make her own decisions, which would have to been done through the legal system.
4 :
Legally you are not an adult and cannot make these decisions until you are 18 nor can you enter into a legal contract, unless you are an emancipated minor. The hospital and doctors must get the parents permission to treat. The parents also have the right to restrict visitors and if this were my daughter that boyfriend would be top on the list. The age of consent has nothing to do with this. “Consent is referring to consenting to have sex and nothing more. Also the process in which you legally appoint a conservator over an adult who is then legally bound to make medical decisions for them is done through probate court. The legal standard is NOT “insane, it is incompetent to make medical decisions.
5 :
What kind of cancer is it? That's very important because certain types have high success rates and others very poor success rates even with the best standard Medical care. If the success rate is lousy why push it? Plus she is 17 so in my book she can make her own decisions, but it shouldn't be because her boyfriend is manipulating her. Sounds like she'd be better off without him as it is. Is he afraid her hair fall out and he won't want to be with her or some selfish thing? If that's the case he needs a quick jolt on the reality tree.
6 :
The 17 year old parent have to make that decision. not the boyfriend. She has a lot more to worry about than having a boyfriend. Somebody should talk to the girls parents and tell them about what the boyfriend is saying. they could get a restraining order against him to leave her alone and let the parents do what best for their child.

As you get older you will be more aware of the fact you are getting near the end of your life. Your grandparents face / faced this. Have you discussed it with them? (NO!) Has your family? (NO!) You wish to deny them important knowledge and information. (just die and don't ask questions!)
2 :
Yes she did. I don't know really if she got the counseling but I don't know what Obama was going on about since she died while he was running for president and he was not there. I think he is one cold person. Love Canada, I am old, I already know it no-one needs to councel me with the knowledge. Thanks but I will try to get the meds and live a little longer if you don't mind too much.

As my folks aged, they talked to their doctor and pastor and wrote out living wills and talked over with all of us when we should continue treatment and when we should just let it go. The first one to die fought on and on; the one left behind wants a DNR sooner as they feel no need to continue in pain because their one true live has already passed away. When I was in my twenties, our old family doctor pointed out an aged man, barely aware, being wheeled in to the ER for treatment and he commented that that was one of the tragedies of modern medicine, our ability to prolong life without prolonging the quality of that life.. Now that I am closer to seventy, I totally understand. Hopefully, she was offered all the options and chose what she wanted to do. And even better, she talked about it with health care professionals and her family before the issue arose.
