Well, the most common treatements for cancer are Surgery, Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, Immunotherapy, and Monoclonal Antibody Therapy. Surgery has been around basically FOREVER, so I'm assuming that's not a "modern" method. I would say that it's when Marie and Pierre Curie discovered Radiation at the end of the 19th century. This was the first effective non-surgical cancer treatment. Chemotherapy didn't begin until the 1940s.
