Do you believe a cancer patient's right to treatment should be based on his or her ability to pay for it

Do you believe a cancer patient's right to treatment should be based on his or her ability to pay for it?
If a person is dying from cancer, but can be saved by cancer treatments, should that person's access to those treatments be based on if he or she can pay for it? (including insurance, which often isn't enough) Example answers based on past questions: "Yes, health care isn't a right" or "no, there should be universal coverage of at least major conditions"

N O. The patients ability to pay should not be the deciding factor in the decision.

Contact the Red Cross or Salvation Army to pay your bills.

no one is stopping you from paying for it. Just don't ask me to pay for it. I have so save my money for when something bad happens to me.

It seems to be an oxymoron that some people are vehemently against abortion, but after birth, medical care depends on ability to pay for treatment.

All medical treatment is based on the patient's ability to pay for it. Doctors need to be paid too. If a doctor chooses to do charity work for you that is commendable. But the key word here is 'chooses'

Definitely treatment should be covered as part of a socialized medicine system. That said, even an excellent social healthcare system like the UK's NHS falls down on some cancer treatments. It gets nicknamed the "postcode lottery", because some healthcare trusts have more money than others, so depending on where you live, should you develop a certain type of cancer, your chances of successful treatment depend on if your local healthcare trust has the money to pay for the drugs and treatment. My home city of Manchester had a famous case with musical entrepeneur & visionary Tony Wilson; he developed liver cancer (I think), and the local healthcare trust refused to pay for the drugs that would extend his life. He had to buy it himself, at $5000 a month. Healthcare is a basic right that we should all have, regardless of means or social background.
