I've heard it all now. I'm outraged. NY state will not allow this man to collect his $1m prize (as opposed to the usual 20 year pay-out) because of "rules". He needs the money to get adequate cancer treatment and is getting the runaround. The lottery corporation is not being honest. They make the rules, they can turn around and break the rules. They do it all the time for the powerball payouts, which are supposed to be over 20 years as well, but most winners take the money as a lump sum payment. Just another way for your government to screw you.

WOW! That is unbelievable!!! I couldn't even imagine having the means to find additional time on my life and with my family and being straight up denied! That poor man. I hope he can get everything figured out before it's too late. I bet if he was making a donation they would have no problem waiting a year for $50,000!

When they allow the lump sum payment, they aren't "breaking the rules" to do so. It's in the rules to allow lump sum payments. This lottery doesn't have the same rule in place. I doubt they're going out of their way to screw the guy. They're following the rules, and if you've ever tried to get a government organization to make an exception for you, no matter how good a reason you have, it never happens. I feel for the guy and hope that he can get some kind of good resolution to this. I'm surprised that he hasn't been able to get a loan collateralized by the lottery ticket. I mean, he has a guaranteed cash flow stream coming for 20 years. I can't see a reason that a bank wouldn't front him money on it, especially considering his situation.

he gets thirty a year after taxes sell the note or assign it to the hospital. what do you care. you make a big deal about what NY lottery should do yet you haven't sent this guy one thin dime.
