Farraha's Germany Cancer Treatment involves chemotherapy injected into the tumor itself.

Farraha's Germany Cancer Treatment involves chemotherapy injected into the tumor itself.?
It is "standard" practice in Germany and is in experimental stages here. Is Germany technology and medicine ahead of USA? Should this be adapted in the USA? If your chance of survival is better would you go to Germany like Farraha did?

Treatments are being developed all over the world all of the time. The US is not particularly better or worse than other developed countries in terms of treatment availability. Many Americans are under the mistaken impression that their system of health care, medications, etc are superior to other countries. Not so, of course. For example, medical treatment in Japan and Britain are virtually identical to the US. In fact they may be better in some respects, such as access and affordability.

If my prognosis were grim, I'd be more likely to volunteer for a clinical trial here in the US than to try some treatment in a foreign country. If the treatment Farrah underwent does have good results, eventually it will be available here. Until then ... well, I'm going to stick with what is proven in randomized, controlled, blind clinical trials.

I don't know Dave; think I'd take the USA technology over any other country any day. Her treatments aren't working, now she's back in the states. I think it's too late though. And actually embolization has been used here for a while now.

Many countries have easier access to experimental procedures because they're just that - experimental. The US restricts many meds and procedures due to safety issues, either delays for safety testing, or because of known adverse effects that the US agencies may be less willing to accept than other countries. Or because of the high number of litigation happy idiots in the general population. So the better question is how comfortable the person is with the procedure and potential adverse effects.

When a cancer patient has exhausted all other avenues of treatment in this country and the Dr says no more can be done, it's out of desperation that the patient will turn to other unconventional mean of treatments and do or take whatever they can to prolong their life. They used to go to Mexico for Laetrile treatments. The US does not recognize Laetrile because of the poison from the apricot pits which it's made from. Farrah did what she thought would help her. If I were in that position, yes, I would turn to other countries for treatments. Some day, one of the treatments just make work on someone. It can't hurt either way especially if the outcome is death. Why not try it if it's not available in the US?
