What part of cancer treatment/steroids cause someone's voice box to break

What part of cancer treatment/steroids cause someone's voice box to break?
My friend is being given palliative chemo and taking a lot of steroids, morphine etc, She is now on a new low dose of chemo to try and get her a few more months. The steroids make her voice really croaky, on her last review she was told her voice box was broken, how or why would this happen? It's bad enough being so ill without being not able to talk.

Common affect of these potent drugs. Radiation chemo destroys the bad cells and many good cells. The good cells usually come back to health. Normally it comes back fine. Click on symptom control in the menu. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Management_of_cancer
