6 weeks cancer treatment at Duke hospital

6 weeks cancer treatment at Duke hospital?
My mother in law has to have chemo and radiation for 6 wks. It's about a 4 hour drive so she has to stay there. Anyone know of groups that offer help with bills or mainly with where to stay? Hotels offer medical rates, but at 6 wks, its still alot. I wish someone had a motor home donation group for people like this.

she could check with the local church branch to see if she could get help through them.

Often there are hospital hospitality houses available at low cost or if you prefer hotels sometimes offer low cost lodging near major medical facilities. Here are some options for your Mother in Law. We have stayed at several hospitality locations in other states and they are wonderful, convenient and sometimes offer transportation too. If you are looking for lodging around Duke hospital in NC: Caring House is a communal house for adult cancer patients at Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center. It offers lodging for $25 a night. She will need a referral by an oncology social worker at the hospital: Caring House http://www.caringhouse.com/ There is also a Duke University Host Home Program which can arrange short term housing in private homes. (find contacts and more information by looking through the Joe's House website) Hospital Hospitality Housing by state http://www.nahhh.org/lodging2.php?state=North%20Carolina Low cost housing associated with medical facilities by state: Joe's House http://www.joeshouse.org/

Check with Duke University Hospital. Most hospitals offer a service, almost like a Hotel Concierge, that offer help to patients and their families - either with locating places to stay or transportation. Having been at Duke myself, I would find it hard to believe they don't offer Patient Assistance. Good Luck!
