You wouldn’t expect to pay the same price for a house in Iowa as you would in Malibu. Medical treatment is the same; it depends on where you live. Usually teaching hospitals are more expensive than non-teaching hospitals though. Calypso is a recommended option, but there are so many options for prostate cancer and so many variables to consider there isn’t a best option for all. If you are not sure about which option to choose try getting another opinion from another oncologist.

Is there a real website providing Liver Cancer Treatment

Is there a real website providing Liver Cancer Treatment?
I have gotten liver cancer in 2 months before diagnosing. I want to use herbal treatment for treatment. Is there a site providing herbal liver cancer treatment?

I would discuss this with your doctor before you do any such thing. It could be very dangerous using nonFDA approved products

There is no known reliable website that will provide the information that you seek. There are however plenty of websites that are able and willing to take your money. I have personally known many people who have 'tried out' herbal treatments for cancer (we keep an extensive database for a rare type of cancer). . and all have experience progression of disease or have passed away. Every one of them. One young man decided to have no chemo treatment at all but did have one small tumor removed. He concentrated fully on alt med and diet, sought out the advice of a naturopathic .. did everything natural (it cost him a small fortune . . about 2 or 3 thousand dollars a month) . . he tried this for over six months and a few weeks ago discovered that his cancer had not only returned but had spread throughout his body. He is now a stage IV. I truly wish that there were alternatives that worked . . just think how much easier treating diseases like cancer would be! But it is all just wishful thinking . . . you can try it . . but do so with the understanding that cancer is a progressive disease . . it won't let you make mistakes. If this is the wrong decision for you than the cancer will spread and there will be little left to stop it. Cancer is deadly and deceptive. Cancer rarely has symptoms until it is very advanced . . and by than it is too late. Many people believe after using alternative meds that they feel great so the herbals must be working . . what they don't realize is that if they took nothing at all and only ate pizza they would feel exactly the same. Cancer is very, very deceptive. There are some reports that herbals can intefere with treatments and may actually encourage the growth and spead of cancer. As long as you are aware that there are no reliable research into safety of the products you will use, no known dosages (how much to take in order to be effective and for how long to take it - and that it can cost a small fortune to keep purchasing these products . . ) Well . . good luck. Incidentally, in order to determine if any cancer treatment is working or not . .tumors can be measured using CT or PET. If you decide to try herbals you should make sure you have a CT to measure the progress or lack of progress in your disease. If the cancer continues to grow within six weeks of using the herbals than it is probably not working.

Cancer develops because, for some reason, the cells start to multiply so fast that they form a tumor and keep growing in number. Cancer can be slow growing or very fast growing and aggressive. Cancer can develop in one area and break off and go to other organs also. That means if it is in the lungs, it can go to the liver, or develop in the liver and go to the bones. These cancer cells push on the other healthy cells in the liver and can cut off their blood supply which gives them nourishment and oxygen. These cells will die and form scar tissue inside the liver. The professionals have found out that they need certain drugs directed right at the tumor to try and destroy it, or try to cut off the blood supply to it, or try to destroy the cells as much as possible that continue to multiply. There is a new development known as Gamma knife where the radiation goes directly to the tumor and not the surrounding tissues. Which helps keep the patients from having so many side effects that normally would occur just radiating the whole body. http://radonc.yale.edu/clinical/radiosurgery.html There is a new surgical instrument that they can use to take tumors out of the body that is ultrasonic and will remove the tissues and leave the blood vessel and nerves alone known as Cusa: (this site is talking about using it for women, but it is also used for liver tumors) http://www.ump.com/articles/cusa/CUSA.htm This instrument help stop from having blood transfusions used during this time. There is also an instrument that is used known as Tissue Link that uses hot water that will gently close these vessels in the liver. I don't have a link for that. Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. is where I know that they have used these instruments. (http://www.jeffersonhospital.org I know it is tempting to use herbal medications...but these medications can interact with medications the doctor may be giving you...they can also cause more damage when you are not sure which one to use and the amount. All medications goes through the liver to be processed. There are many drugs on the market that can harm the liver very easily when taken with other things...like over the counter pain med and alcohol together. Using herbs that have not been tested to see how the liver handles them, can cause more damage...most herbs have not been tested and the few that have been have been found out to be a great problem The liver, once it is damage, lacks in its ability to process drugs and the dosage has to be adjusted per patient and how bad the damage is. You will be taking a risk in doing this. If you really think about this...the herbs you will be taking is going to be processed through your digestive system and has to be absorbed into the body through the liver, which is not as good as if the medication is directed straight at the tumor itself. I hope you will reconsider and, if you do take anything, have it cleared to be okay to do so by your doctor. Sorry to hear you are going through this all.

Is UV radiation from the sun simular to the radiation used in cancer treatment

Is UV radiation from the sun simular to the radiation used in cancer treatment?
I'm sure the radiation therapy used in cancer treatment is much stronger than what we get from the sun, but are they pretty much the same RAYS otherwise?

No. Radiation used in cancer treatment is either gamma from a radioactive source or xray - which is essentially that same as gamma. Edit: I work with radioactive materials every day at my job. Believe me when I say that a laughed when I read onlymatch4u's explanation. Seriously. He was correct that some radiation is particles. Alpha, Beta, Neutron, and Neutrino radiation is particles. Gamma radiation is energy. His explanation of how it causes damage sounds like something from Art Linkletter's "Kids say the Darndest Things" (see link below). Radiation does damage by ionizing atoms. It knocks one or more electrons from atoms, causing them to become positively charged. These ionized atoms them bond with the nearest atom, forming a new molecule. This change may have no negative effect or it may cause damage that leads to the death of a cell that it was in.
2 :
Radiation is made up of small high energy particles. When they bombard you with radiation, small tiny holes are made. The higher the concentration, the more holes and the deeper the penetration. There are different frequencies of radiation. The UV from the sun that your body uses to make vitamin D3 is from the UVB rays. UVA rays are cancer causing. Those two types of rays are the primary ones coming from the sun that are utilized by the body. The earth's atmosphere generally blocks out the x-rays that are the kind used in radiation treatments for cancer. As the wavelengths of light decrease, they increase in energy. X-rays have smaller wavelengths and therefore higher energy than ultraviolet waves. good luck
3 :
I don't think so.. The sun is an incredible immune booster for the body and causes the body to produce the most obsorbable and high quality vitamin D known to man, which then leads to full calcium absorbtion, creating strong bones, nice teeth, hair, nails etc.. On the other hand, the radiation used in cancer treatment lowers the immune system severely and causes tremendous damage to parts of the body. The body doesn't get cancer as a result of a radiation deficiency.

Liberal believe you have an absolute right to an abortion but not to life saving cancer treatment

Liberal believe you have an absolute right to an abortion but not to life saving cancer treatment?
Once Nationalized Health Care is implemented and rationing of health care begins, how will the Obama liberals reconcile this discrepancy? Abortion available on demand. Life saving cancer treatment denied. While I would hate to see children punished with a baby, just like the president, an abortion is rarely performed as a life saving procedure but certainly will be available under Obamacare. However life saving cancer treatments will certainly be denied on the basis of cost containment how do you reconcile these positions?

life saving cancer treatments won't be denied, where are you getting this information. and lets not bring the issue of abortion into this, because thats a fight your gonna lose
2 :
life saving cancer treatments will NOT be denied next !
3 :
No one is proposing nationalized health care, so all of your statements are false.
4 :
I'm a liberal and I believe you have a right to the life saving cancer treatment.
5 :
It's all about cutting costs. Fewer welfare babies, fewer tax dollars spent on welfare babies once they are born. Fewer old people laying around, fewer tax dollars spent on treating them. Look up Ruth Ginsburg. She's a hoot.
6 :
I don't, it's all wrong. But something needs to happen. This is how I see abortions, we are going to pay either way: Either through a $500 abortion procedure, through the normally unwed, young mom when she goes on assistance or if she places the child in foster care. Either way, tax payers are going to pay something for that child. But I do think we should pay for life threatening illnesses like cancer (or stage 1 renal failure in my daughter's case) it is too expensive for the average american to afford.
7 :
Obama's top domestic priority. Abortion is not mentioned in the 1,018-page bill that Democratic leaders hope will be approved by the last of three House committees this week. Supporters of the legislation say that means the bill is neutral. But abortion opponents say the bill's silence is precisely the problem. Without an explicit prohibition on federal funding for abortion, it could be included in taxpayer-subsidized coverage offered through the health overhaul plan, abortion opponents say. "We cannot support any health care reform proposal unless it explicitly excludes abortion from the scope of any government-defined or subsidized health insurance plan," a group of 20 Democratic representatives said in a June 25 letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. When the legislation was unveiled last week, it failed to include language abortion opponents were seeking. Now they are going public. Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., who helped draft the letter to Pelosi, plans to join lawmakers of both parties Wednesday at a news conference to criticize the legislation. The Supreme Court has established a woman's right to abortion, but federal law prohibits government funds from being used to pay for the procedure in most cases. However, nearly 90 percent of employer-based private insurance plans routinely cover abortion. Obama, who supports abortion rights, sidestepped a question on the brewing controversy. "Rather than wade into that issue at this point, I think that it's appropriate for us to figure out how to just deliver on the cost savings and not get distracted by the abortion debate," the president said in an interview with CBS News
8 :
Liar liar pants on fire, you no that's not true, why do you try and scare people. The republican party is the party of fear and hate. You should be ashamed.
9 :
This is not a liberal view but a political view. For example, myself as a liberal I am an advocate of abortion rights, euthanasia and free health care. The political reason for life saving cancer treatment being denied is economical rather than political or social. An abortion only cost $350 on average per person. A life saving cancer treatment cost thousands and thousands of dollars which the government cannot provide unless it raises taxes. Most European countries where abortion is legal and have a free health care system do pay a significant amount of taxes. Countries like Switzerland and the Netherlands where free health care is available also have legal abortion on demand and have legalized euthanasia. The tax rate on individual income as well as the sales taxes are fairly high in comparison to the US, however the interesting thing is that these countries do have per the latest statistics a higher standard of living, lower crime rate, higher life expectancy and better health care and school system, and higher GDP per capita than the US even if they significantly pay higher taxes. The problem does not underlie in how liberal a country is since most of the most liberal European countries are much better off than the US in all aspects, but it underlies on our past management, the conservative movement that wants to grab onto Washington like a thick on a fat dog and the religious fundamentalists that want to put this country back it the dark ages.

My father in law had a difficult time controlling urination and lost any kind of sexual feeling for a long time, but he's been done with treatment for just over a year and both have returned. He went through chemo and radiation for his.
2 :
You will expect some pain, weakness, and other side effects from the treatment you described. If you feel the treatment is not working you could look into other options, see these links. http://www.cancertutor.com/Other/Prostate_Cancer.html http://www.naturalnews.com/027534_vitamin_D_prostate_cancer.html

How many times do patient goes under diagnosis (cancer test) while being under treatment for cancer

How many times do patient goes under diagnosis (cancer test) while being under treatment for cancer?
Hello, I am doing a research on cancer. I need to know how many times do patient goes under diagnosis (cancer test) while being under treatment for cancer? I understand it all varies depending upon type of cancer and stage of disease. But still need to get round about figure. I also need to know how much time normally cancer treatment lasts. This again can be average/round about figure as mentioned earlier. Regards

While undergoing treatments for cancer, each patients has blood drawn before the next treatments to tell the doctor if the chemo has killed cells, which is does, and how many. It determines how low the numbers have gotten since the last treatment. It's an ongoing process. They have to continually draw blood. It's the only way they know if treatment is successful or not. Treatments also vary according to the type of cancer. Some people only have to go twice for treatments as did a friend of mine because her tumor in her breast came back benign, but the first time it was malignant. So the doctor wanted her to have just 2 treatments in order to kill any cancer cells that may have been there undetected. Others can have full treatments. between 6-8 and like I said depending on the type of cancer, may have to have treatments as many as 3 or 4 times. Separate times that is. It's a difficult question to answer because there are over 200 different types of cancer. Cancer is just one term for a broad use of the word cancer. See the problem? Hope that helps anyway. Blessings

You don't undergo diagnosis all throughout your treatment. I was diagnosed after my brain tumor was sent off for testing. After confirmation of cancer, drs determined what my treatment would be. I got a cbc once a week to check my blood counts. If low, I would have to postpone chemo until my blood counts came back within normal range. I got an mri every other month to check for tumor regrowth and still get one every 3 months. Most cancers will not show up in blood tests, although many specialized blood tests are being discovered. My treatment was 6 weeks of chemo every single day, along with radiation 5 days a week for 6 weeks, with a stronger boost the last week. After a month of no treatment, I was on chemo 5 days a month for 6 months. All through treatments, I had blood drawn every week, then had it drawn before chemo when radiation was over.

Your question is not really too clear. Cancer is an umbrella term for over 200 different types of disease . . some are more aggressive than others. In general, if a patient is suspected of having cancer than they undergo blood tests, CT, PET or MRI, and finally a biopsy of the tumor or area suspected of being malignant. Pathology confirms whether it is cancer or not. This only happens once . . unless pathology cannot determine the histology (cancer type) than the biopsy is sent out to a few different pathology labs. It is important to know exactly what type of cancer a patient has so that the right treatment can be given. Almost all known cancer types have a protocol (a guide book followed by oncologists) . .the protocol is a treatment designed around evidence based medicine . . a doctor can adjust the protocol to fit the situation if necessary. Thus everyone with a specific type of leukemia follows the same protocol no matter which hospital they are treated in . . . same with breast cancer . . and many other cancers. The biggest exception would be rare cancers that often have few protocols to follow. Which leads to the the length of time for treatment. Because cancer is a progressive disease which starts out as a single malignant cell and than grows indefinitely if not treated . . it stands to reason that the earlier or small the tumor or cancer than the easier it is to treat and the less time it will take to treat. Thus . . the more advanced the cancer and the more aggressive the disease than the longer treatment will be. So depending on the severity of the disease, treatment can be anywhere from a few months to years. My son underwent nine months of high dose chemo, four surgeries, nine more months of chemotherapy, followed by clinical trials . . about three years.

Laboratory Tests that Detect Cancer Since prevention is one of the most important cancer-fighting tools, it is important that cancer be detected as early as possible before it spreads. For warning signs, go to our Cancer Symptoms page. There are numerous cancer detection and prevention tests that can be used to detect cancer. We are listing the tests that are considered alternative or less toxic than standard conventional tests. Some of these tests are not used by conventional physicians, but you can always ask them to look into the test. It is important to understand that one should not rely on any one test - some tests can result in false positives or negatives. One must take all clinical factors into consideration to back up a diagnosis. AMAS - Anti-malignin antibody screen test is designed to pick up cancers well in advance of other signs and symptoms, months before conventional medical tests can detect it. However, for advanced cancer, if the antimalignin antibody is wiped out, the test won't work. For this, other types of testing is recommended. We have also heard of a few breast cancer patients have received a false negative on this test. Again, it is important not to rely on any one test. Oncolab will send a free test kit for you to take to your doctor. The test runs $125 in addition to your doctor's office charges for drawing blood. Call 1-800-9CATest for a test kit and information.
