I'm sure the radiation therapy used in cancer treatment is much stronger than what we get from the sun, but are they pretty much the same RAYS otherwise?

No. Radiation used in cancer treatment is either gamma from a radioactive source or xray - which is essentially that same as gamma. Edit: I work with radioactive materials every day at my job. Believe me when I say that a laughed when I read onlymatch4u's explanation. Seriously. He was correct that some radiation is particles. Alpha, Beta, Neutron, and Neutrino radiation is particles. Gamma radiation is energy. His explanation of how it causes damage sounds like something from Art Linkletter's "Kids say the Darndest Things" (see link below). Radiation does damage by ionizing atoms. It knocks one or more electrons from atoms, causing them to become positively charged. These ionized atoms them bond with the nearest atom, forming a new molecule. This change may have no negative effect or it may cause damage that leads to the death of a cell that it was in.

Radiation is made up of small high energy particles. When they bombard you with radiation, small tiny holes are made. The higher the concentration, the more holes and the deeper the penetration. There are different frequencies of radiation. The UV from the sun that your body uses to make vitamin D3 is from the UVB rays. UVA rays are cancer causing. Those two types of rays are the primary ones coming from the sun that are utilized by the body. The earth's atmosphere generally blocks out the x-rays that are the kind used in radiation treatments for cancer. As the wavelengths of light decrease, they increase in energy. X-rays have smaller wavelengths and therefore higher energy than ultraviolet waves. good luck

I don't think so.. The sun is an incredible immune booster for the body and causes the body to produce the most obsorbable and high quality vitamin D known to man, which then leads to full calcium absorbtion, creating strong bones, nice teeth, hair, nails etc.. On the other hand, the radiation used in cancer treatment lowers the immune system severely and causes tremendous damage to parts of the body. The body doesn't get cancer as a result of a radiation deficiency.
