What treatment options work best for dog/canine cancer

What treatment options work best for dog/canine cancer?
Our 7 year old English Cocker Spaniel was just diagnosed with prostate cancer a few days ago. We're looking for people who have had success with treatment plans (chemo, holistic, etc.). Our vet has him on piroxicam to help shrink his prostate down, but we would love to hear any success stories anyone has.

Sorry to hear about your dog. A study was conducted a few years back at University of Missouri vet school that found a higher success rate with using a combination of piroxicam and mitoxantrone than with either drug used alone so that might be something worth discussing with your vet. That's the most effective treatment option of which I'm aware. Though surgery and chemotherapy are options, they are not good ones as they don't often prove successful and have inherent risks. Best of luck with it.
