If you have had or know someone with cancer, what are the problems with cancer treatment centers

If you have had or know someone with cancer, what are the problems with cancer treatment centers?
I am redesigning cancer treatment centers and trying to find what the current problems are with cancer treatment centers.

over crowded, usually not enough seating for the paitents and there family or friend in the wating rooms.

The main problem is the treatments offered by conventional medicine do not work. If it is treatment with chemicals, or radiation, forget it. It is not only a waste of time and money, it also causes more suffering for the patients and their families. Do you honestly believe that treatments offered by conventional medicine work? Do you have solid proof that those treatments really work?
3 :
Limited wi-fi, Tv's are too loud.

If this is for real more power to U. Most places do not allow the patient to feel like they have control over their own lives. Also nutrition is not emphasized enough. Many cancers can speed their healing with proper diets and most doctors have little training in this area. A good treatment center would have a mediation garden and a courtyard both indoors and out doors. Lots of natural light and a research computer and library where patients could do some of their own research instead of being treated like dummies. Soft colors and soft sounds to please the eye and ear. and soothe the soul.

Well, I was a cancer patient and the problem I felt most was how doctors were afraid of saying "I don't know" and instead would give me answers when in reality they really didn't know the answer. I didn't expect them to be God and know everything. I only expected honesty. I also experienced a lack of them listening to what I had to say. For instance I decided that I wasn't going to get some of the treatment because getting more would've meant the loss of the use of one of my limbs and though plenty of people are willing to live with that- I wasn't because the only thing that gives me joy in life is being physically active. So the idea of living the rest of my VERY LONG LIFE (I was in my early 20s at the time) not being able to do much was way scarier and unnacceptable to me than the idea of dying in 2 years knowing that at least 1 of those years I could be living an active life. The doctors simply didn't understand this and attacked me and insisted I wasn't taking their threats that I was going to die seriously when that wasn't the case at all. THEY WEREN"T LISTENING TO WHAT I WAS SAYING which only increased my anxiety about trusting them because I was afraid they were just going to do what they wanted rather than what I was saying I wanted. So while preparing to live only a short time I decided to do my own research on the subject because the docs were being so unhelpful and not taking my wishes into consideration. Well guess what? In my research I found out that the treatment they wanted to give me that would RUIN the rest of my life had a poor history of being effective on the type of cancer I had. A VERY POOR history. Of those who recieved this severe Chemotherapy regimen they wanted me on that would ruin my reproductive and immune system for life and remove a portion of my limb - only 30% managed to survive after the treatment. And of that 30%... most of them only survived 5 extra years!! that's it. They wanted to take a chunk of my limb and make me sterile for life and put my immune system down the toilet so that I could have a measly 30% chance of living 5 years of turmoil where I can't even walk??? They didn't think to even mention this to me until AFTER I looked it up myself and brought it to there attention?? Let me tell you- I went ahead and got the radiation, but I refused all other treatment and just decided to live the best life I could. That was years ago... and I'm happy to say that I'm Cancer free and can run and jump and have children and even if I were to find out that it was going to return in a couple of years - not getting that awful treatment was worth the last 4 years I've been living so far. Very worth it. And if the doctor's bothered to listen to me instead of seeing me as some kind of project things would've been a little different.
6 :
The chemo center I went to was way too small, and people were packed in there like sardines, very close together. There was no tv, or wifi and no place for visitors to sit, should a patient want or need a loved one with them. Most patients are there for many, many hours and it was boring (at least for me). At my center there was only one nurse to tend to up to six people at a time. It felt very impersonal. The room was dark and the colors were not inviting. The experience was not very positive for me, and I am a very positive person even with my illness.
7 :
Good luck - many centers need a good dose of TLC and thinking about what the patient wants. If you go to www.after-cancer.com/cancer-centres (sic) there is mention of some good centers. Also if you trawl around on the site, there is information about helpful attitudes, ideas that might be incorporated into a center, etc. Verite R

What breakthroughs have been found in cancer treatment lately

What breakthroughs have been found in cancer treatment lately?
Has there been a breakthrough in prostate cancer treatment?
Cancer - 2 Answers

1 :
Yes. The drug is called abiraterone, and according to news reports it's the biggest breakthrough in prostate cancer in 70 years. It finished clinical trials in July and seemed to manage unmanageable prostate cancer that had even progressed to the point where the victims were on morphine. Back in July they said the drug would be available to the public in 2-3 years, so the future is looking very, very bright.

This is the free alternative for cancer patients.Do it and you will know from the future test results. You can also do it alongside any medical treatment. It is very natural and works like chemotherapy - destroys only the cancer cells. Cancer hates oxygen and cannot live in a high-oxygen environment. If you want to supplement the medical treatment you receive(or not receive) with some alternative therapy then this is for you. You need to help your body to build up your immune system. The breathing exercises - pranayam is a holistic approach creating extra oxygen supply in the body and will slowly help with the health problem.Do the pranayam to see the benefits.Build up your timing slowly and after four weeks at the suggested maximum duration you will start to notice benefits gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume later. What is known: pranayam helps the body heal itself. How it works in the body is not known – but people may build their own theory. You have to do it yourself for your benefit. The small print: Keep doing pranayam after you are better for minimum 30 minutes a day for rest of life to maintain health. People who have been treated successfully, should do pranayam as well, as there is a chance of recurrence. The pranayam techniques: Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose.Duration upto 5 minutes. Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day.(Max 60 min/day) Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently. Anulom Vilom - Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril then -keeping the left nostril closed deep breath-in through right nostril then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril. This is one cycle of anulom vilom. Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day(maximum 60 minutes in one day). You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed. Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee. Duration : 5 to 10 times Only by doing you will benefit and will feel good that you can do something to help the body.Copy and print this to improve your technique and stay focused. This is simplified pranayam for everyone and you do not have to go to classes to learn. This is for life, unlike short term classes where you do it in the class then stop when classes are over. For Prostate cancer follow the pranayam and you can notice the benefits in 3 months.

is anyone familiar with seattle cancer treatment and wellness center

is anyone familiar with seattle cancer treatment and wellness center?
I am trying to decide where to get treatment and just went for a 2nd opinion for my breast cancer treatment. I am triple negative, and like the naturopathic approach. Has anyone went to them for treatment? What were your results?

There are no natural remedies that have been proven to do a thing to cancer. However, no hospital in the United States would be allowed to call themselves a cancer treatment center if they relied on naturopathic methods. We practice evidence based medicine in the country and all doctors and hospitals have the same up to date information there isn’t one or two who have or use a special method not used elsewhere. Choose an oncologist you like and trust and who you have good communication with. You are going to have a long relationship with this doctor and rely on him or her for everything. It is important they explain things well and you understand each other as it is the only way you can make good informed decisions. Best wishes.

I live in Seattle and my wife was diagnosed TNBC Stage 2 B. Our oncologist is rated one of the best in the area for treating breast cancer and we are extremely happy with all she has done for us. Her name is Dr. Kristine Rinn and she is with Swedish Cancer Clinic on Madison Street. Here is some information about her: http://www.swedish.org/Physicians/Kristine-Rinn If there is any good that comes with this diagnosis is that TNBC is very responsive to chemotherapy. Do yourself a favor and get this doctor on your cancer team. Here is another site I go to it is the TNBC Foundation: http://www.tnbcfoundation.org/ If you go there I am known as "Scared". Through Swedish Medical Clinic we use Dr. Buffi. He works in coordination with Dr. Rinn and has helped us through all phases of our treatment. I wish you the best, we are today two years since our TNBC diagnosis. We celebrated with her family and looking back it getting the BEST team on your side makes a world of difference. A great radiation oncologist at Swedish is Dr. Astrid Morris. Good luck and please at least interview with Dr. Rinn.

How much does cancer treatment - radiation therapy, cost

How much does cancer treatment - radiation therapy, cost?
How much does cancer treatment - radiation therapy, cost? My grandma has cancer and I need to know how much does cancer radiation treatments cost? Thank you!! She is in Russia and I need an approximate cost of this treatment to see if I should bring her here, to the United States, Florida. She has no insurance. I just need an approximate cost to see if we can afford it or if she should do it in Russia. Thank you!

The cost of cancer treatment rose dramatically between 1991 and 2002, sparking fears that many people may be going without the most effective treatment, according to a study conducted by researchers from the National Cancer Institute. Researchers used data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End-Results (SEER) Medicare database to examine the costs of initial cancer treatments in 306,709 breast, colorectal, lung and prostate cancer patients over the age of 65. These treatments included surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and other hospitalization. Over the ten-year period studied, the average cost of breast cancer treatment increased $4,189 to $20,964. The average cost of treating prostate cancer increased $5,435 to $41,134, while the average cost of lung cancer treatment went up $7,139 to $39,891. These are 7 year old prices so I am sure it is even more.
2 :
A fortune that some people can not afford the way this economy is going.
3 :
My radiation therapy for breast cancer ran about $20-25,000 (USD). However, radiation therapy for other types of cancers may be completely different. I had 33 treatments of external beam radiation.

If your kid gets cancer can a parent legally refuse conventional cancer treatment

If your kid gets cancer can a parent legally refuse conventional cancer treatment?
Chemotherapy/Radiation etc is nothing but poison to the body. When you poison the immune system and irradiate tissues, you create physical imbalances which in turn can create cancer. This is the simple reason why so many people who subject themselves to conventional cancer treatments find themselves battling recurring cancer. Conventional cancer treatments are downright brutal and destroy the immune system. I strongly believe in prevention and alternative medicine, and living a pure and natural lifestyle with raw organic foods, so my family and I will probably never ever get cancer. But if me or my kids or wife ever got cancer I swear I would never subject myself or them to that torture just to please the big pharma companies which don't give a sh*t about people. Just like I would never give them a bottle of rat poison to swallow. The big pharma companies only care about their trillion-dollar a year industry and keeping people brainwashed. My question is would a parent be legally allowed to refuse conventional cancer treatment if their kid got cancer?

I'm sure you can but you'll have to find another treatment out there that has been proven to cure whatever cancer the child has.
2 :
This is the politics section. Try medicine or law and maybe you'll hit the daily double.
3 :
"deep breath" parents should be allowed to choose the method of treatment for their own child. Not everyone shares the same beliefs. Anyone offering a snake oil cure for a serious condition should be prosecuted. Those parents should also be able to give a reasonable explanation for the choice they made.
4 :
Yes, in some states, but big pharma is constantly throwing money around trying to make natural medicine of any kind illegal everywhere. In some states its considered child abuse to go against doctor recommendations and most doctors don't even offer a chance to choose, they make the decision. Fight it, fight it with every resource you have available even if it means not taking your children to conventional doctors at all. And to those of you that call vitamin therapy "quackery" or "snake oil cure" please learn to read. Just google "vitamin therapy" or "gerson therapy." Doctors are not gods, and in most cases they are really not that smart at all, they just passed their classes and decided the day they graduated that they knew everything there is to know.
5 :
Yes it is legal, but it could be a fight if some Doctors don't agree. You have to arm yourself for that fight with good reasoning. Rarely will it go to where you need a lawyer and an order but it could. Yes, many do refuse traditional treatment for their children. Happens often enough. And I agree with you, sometimes Doctors do not know best-they know only procedures taught them not many go outside that, I have seen that. People assume to much that they know best always. And I have seen people who are dedicated to health do very well in preventive and alternative medicine. And I have seen people who refuse Doctors but don't follow through with all that is needed for the alternative (which often requires much work). Ideal would be to find a Doctor who will work with you on your alternative before and they are out there. One who works in Natural medicine could recommend some. Doctors who understand both to me can offer so much more. They can help in many ways too.Than you have the benefits of both Add on : "Science does not disagree with you." As stated below. Science also knows about building cells and the destruction of them and the break down of the immune system and the effects. And studies have shown the many failures of these two too. Science in itself Does agree with you. Maybe that person meant Medical Science as a whole --- which that is not agreed on by all in that very field . Popularity of things does not mean it is best. (we once use to use leeches in medicine and most thought that was best and that is one of many we know better now) (we are taught evolution it school but that is not agreed on by All in the field of Science. Real Science is based on consistent fact ) Chemo and Rad also wipes out many good building cells and bring down the immune system and you might just be the one who needs them badly. I do agree with them a healthy lifestyle does not elminate that one might not get a disease or illness just because of living it. So many factors there. Hope you study all your options with care- and know the extent of any illness, your life maybe depended on it. As someone mentioned- you should be able to give a reasonable explanation for the choice you make and of what you plan to do and how it has show too that it is effective In the case of cancer you will find it went well for many using other methods and some it didn't just as in the suggested treatment that is often used.
6 :
Science disagrees with you. You see, you can actually do research on chemotherapy and radiation. Double blind studies that give strong statistical evidence that these treatments work. We can causally explain how these treatments work via our knowledge of human genetics and metabolism. You use words like "physical imbalances" but you do not quantify them. What body fluids are being imbalanced? What is their chemical makeup? Chemotherapy is poison to the body, and that's why it is so effective. Cancer is a mass of cells without any restraints to controlled metabolism and cell division. You poison the entire body, and because cancer cells demand so many resources for their out of control metabolism/divisions they take in more poison than your healthy cells. Thus, the cancer is killed, while sparing everything else. The cancer dies faster than you do. Luckily, we have more and more damage control as this discipline advances. Also, it doesn't matter what kind of lifestyle you have if you have a genetic predisposition for cancer.

do you think that the cancer treatment business is largely a fraud

do you think that the cancer treatment business is largely a fraud?
it's just i have heard so many things about how cancer rates are rising rather than lowering. and the treatment industry takes billions of pounds/dollara per year. I AM NOT APPEALING OR REFERRING TO ANIMAL RIGHTS CAMPAIGNS. i simply want to ask if anyone has any opinions on whether our current methods and practices of cancer treatment are misguided, and perhaps only continue due to all the money and vested ineterests poured into current practices. perhaps it iwould be impossible by now to admit we are doing things wrong...has anyone heard any stories or has any real opinions on this? i do not agree with animal experimentation, but that is a whole other issue and this cancer thing is unrelated. i am talking about regardless of animals, is our approach at best wrong and at worst fraudulent???
Cancer - 8 Answers

1 :
Do you think the people who have been cured of their cancer would say that our current methods are wrong? That's why we have treatments and not cures. It doesn't work for everyone. A lot of money is being invested to find a cure. Just because we don't have one yet doesn't mean progress is not being made. Research breeds technology. I'm sure there is a lot of new research being done that we don't know about. You don't hear about research until testing and retesting can prove that it's worth going public with.
2 :
I am still alive!!! The treatments given in my case were beneficial to the extent that my Non - Hodgkins Lymphoma is in reccesion. In that respect I do not believe the treatment business to be a fraud. In the light of further experience and (expensive) research the treatments and hopefully, prevention will further improve. My family and I are very grateful for the treatments I was fortunate enough to be given.
3 :
I think there is too much special interest going on.The drug companies don't want a cure to be found and they are the ones sponsering the research. Maybe if Doctors were paid the millions of dollars to research cures, we pay sports figures to play a game, they would come up with something.
4 :
obviously they are doing something wrong. For all the money gone into Cancer research and to not have come up with more cures than what we have right now is rediculous. I have a foundation set up in honor of my dad who passed away due to cancer, and though I keep donating and collecting donations for research, I sometimes sell on ebay for cancer research, I do garage sales for cancer research also etc.. etc.., sometimes I wonder where exactly that money is going and what they are doing with it. I do it for other cancer patients, I do it in hopes they find a cure to save others, but it still all leaves me wondering... they should have had more by now with all the money going into cancer research
5 :
Brief answer, no. Better answer, have you concidered WHY cancer rates are rising? The biggest risk factor in getting cancer is age, so as we improve health care and people live longer there is more of a chance of them getting cancer. Cancer is more likely to be diagnosed now than a couple of hundred years ago. Going back a couple of centuries, unless you have visible tumours you wouldn't be diagnosed with cancer. We are exposed to more carcinogens in our modern society, smoking, petro-chemicals, pollution in general. We eat more processed foods laced with chemicals than in times gone by. (Grandma made cakes with eggs, milk, flour, sugar and maybe lemon juice or cocoa, have you seen the lists of ingredients on pre-packaged cakes!) We eat less fresh fruit and vegetables. We have damaged the ozone layer so we are exposed to higher concentrations of UV radiation from the sun. We choose to live at lattitudes other than those of our ancestors and our bodies are not designed for te resultant sun exposure. Fix all of these things, and we may see a drop in cancers.
6 :
Just an opinion, but I would say that the whole pharmaceutical industry business is just that a "business". Many good drugs/vaccines have already been discovered but are not commercialized because the forecasted profits do not have the right amount of zeros on the right. So many ppl keep dying from some illnesses where the cure has already been found but it is not given. On the other hand, there are some other drugs that have been discovered and proven to have too many secondary effects on the people and that are only a paliative treatment but they turn out to me more profitable. Cancer treatments are way too expensive and it is a business from the drug companies and the clinics. SAD BUT TRUE. And it is not just that the medicines are a bit expensive and you can still reach them. They are unreachable. But they take advantage of your situation where you would do anything that is available for you if it means you can save the life of a beloved one or at least try to. I know some people who had a business and had to sell everything in order to afford these treatments. They are still bankrupted. I am not saying that the drugs for cancer should be as cheap as a package of aspirins. Because they are so specific they are very expensive, but I am sure in top of that a part of the high cost of the drugs is real but the rest is business. On the other hand, consider the following: an increasing number of foods and food ingredients are approved today by FDA or pertaining authorities in each country, and tomorrow they are found to be cancer promoting substances. So first of all you are never sure on what to eat. What today is good, tomorrow may be wrong. Also 80% of the food products we buy in the supermarket contain artificial substances, colorants, preservatives, ... and the list goes on and on... Who can assure they are not harmful for us in the long term.??
7 :
There was recently a massive campaign announced whose result would be to increase the number of people dying of cancer. It was to prevent premature deaths from heart disease. If you stop people having early heart attacks, they don't "not die", they have to die from something else. Later, which is why it's worthwhile. But as deaths from other causes fall... Smallpox is gone, TB's not the killer it was in most places, etc., etc., ...Cancer is left as something a lot of people will get if they live long enough. About one person in three, by the end of their lives. (see URL) Cancer rates drop in a war zone, but I wouldn't recommend it. Yes, improvements to cancer detection and treatment are required. Many people are not picked up early enough, but there are now established cases of unecessary and excessive treatment. Not least from doctors "covering themselves" against the risk of being sued.
8 :
I do believe to some extent it is a fraud. many people survive in spite of the treatments not necessarily because of the treatments. there are many treatments that just as effective and cost way less in other countries but alas not allowed in america. chemo radiation etc weaken the immune system, something you do not want to do. do you honestly think if the medical community (which is run by the pharma companies who set up the american medical association) would allow cheaper effective treatments in the usa? if one uses these chemo treatments it might be wise to use it sparingly and follow a immune system strenghtening diet and execise program. but they are coming up with better treatments where they target just the tumors themselves because they are activly taking up glucose before other cells can, which weaken the immune system furthur, and thus the cancer cells pick up the radiated glucose molecules and the rest of the body is spared the full affects. this has promise. Why go all the way to India? The cause of cancer was discovered in 1932, and is little known, because there is a lot of profit in treatment of cancer. Check out the two websites below. I have a close friend with brain cancer, and his treatment has been 9.5 PH water for the past year. He is 85 and feels that chemo would kill him.

What would be involved in bringing in a relative from another country for cancer treatment

What would be involved in bringing in a relative from another country for cancer treatment?
I have a 16 month old cousin in Bangladesh who was recently diagnosed with cancer. The quality of health care there is very poor. I would appreciate any information on how to go about bringing them into the country in order for the child to receive proper medical treatment. Would immigration officials look at this as a special case in going around the standard immigration process?

Medical findings of cancer and appointment with hospital to be granted a visa.
2 :
Probably not that I know of ....... start the process for a temp Visa now ......In the big picture it is not a long process.
3 :
There are visas for medical treatment. Of course, it's likely to cost tens of thousands of dollars, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars, for treatment. Who's going to pay?
4 :
You'd have to show you could pay for their treatment, but possibly they would. It does happen.
