The patient is 93 years old. The doctor has declined to do another colonoscopy but did an endoscopy and whole body bone scan which came back negative. I'm frustrated because she is my mother and they seem to think her case is hopeless.

I don’t know what the point of another colonoscopy would be. Is she having bowel problems? The standard treatment, if she wants it, is more chemo, but at 93 years of age why would you want to put her through that for a few more months of life? If her lung mets are causing her problems they could do some radiation to relieve the symptoms. At stage 4 her cancer is not curable.

the cancer has already metastasized. there might have been a few cancer cells that escaped from and became resistant to the treatment. im really sorry :((

Now you need to talk with the hospice people and focus on her comfort. Don't stress her out with more cancer treatments. Make her last months happy and comfortable.
