if someone doesn't have a leep, etc. and has cin3 how long does it usually take before it turns into cancer my doctor says he doesn't want to freeze them off or do the leep, etc. that we will just wait till it turns into cancer and then give me a hysterectomy cause he says 80% of the time it comes back anyway.

Usually, years. My gyn/onc put it this way: If CIN 3 is left untreated for one year, it only has a 3% chance of becoming cancer. Also, CIN 3 only has about a 25% of becoming cancer EVER. In many cases it just stays CIN 3 forever, and often is just goes back to normal!! Still, this is something you need to take very seriously. A 25% chance of cancer is actually pretty big. You should have this treated. Is there a reason you (or whoever you are asking this question for) is hesitating about the LEEP? ********************* Your doctor is ON CRACK get a second opnion ASAP!!! First of all, if you are done having kids, you could just go ahead and get a hysterectomy RIGHT NOW. Why would you wait for it to become cancer???? That is CRAZY. Also, CIN 3 does NOT return 80% of the time!!!!! The recurrence rate after the LEEP is only 5% if they remove the entire lesion, and 20% if they don't. And a second LEEP is curative for most women who have to have it. It's extremely rare for this to be a continuing problem.
