Im 23. I have started radiotherapy for lymphoma and I am taking the chemotherapy tablet chlormabulcil. I haven't told many people about my diagnosis and want to carry on with work as normal. How bad do you think the side effects will get? will I be able to carry on working

I sat in the waiting room with an older man that had lymphoma while awaiting my turn in the radiation room. He had hair falling all over his jacket, but other than that, he was doing his paperwork and chatting with everyone in the room. If your chemo makes you sick, I found zofran to work wonders for me. The radiation may turn your skin brown where the rays go in. I got a little tired about halfway through my 6 week treatment and really tired right after it was over for about 3 days. Other than that, I was really good, surprisingly. Hope you'll do great. Jenn, sorry about your brother. Was/is he an alcoholic or have hepatitis c? That's a very rare primary cancer. Hope he stays cancer free. JamesB gave me as many thumbs downs as he could before I blocked him because I stated he was a teen asking about braces rather than the oncologist he said he was.

it depends on your body. my little brother had hepatacellular carcinoma awhile back and had tons of chemo it made it very ill. he got blisters on his tongue, couldnt eat drink swallow etc. became very frail, he couldnt hardly walk weighed about 60 pounds. it was very hard. but given a 2% chance of survival, he made it, and you will too. just done give up, things tend to get worse before they get better.

Everyone is different - keep an open mind about work.

If the USA gets nationalized health care, where will Canadians go to get cancer treatment

If the USA gets nationalized health care, where will Canadians go to get cancer treatment?
And where will Americans go? India? And Nancy, what about the children? Apparently, this question is a little over your heads. If there is no private health care in the USA, there will be no services for non-Americans unless you are an illegal alien. Yeah, and I never met a Canadian hockey player, but I am sure there are a bunch.

They will still come here.
2 :
We are already only just above Cuba in healthcare. We actually send medical missions to countries healthier than us. And you're claiming reform hurts?
3 :
I've NEVER met a Canadian that came here for treatment.
4 :
Congress has exempted itself. NANCY will have the bet while the people have crap[
5 :
You question it too hypothetical, since no one is even PROPOSING nationalized health care in the US.
6 :
Canada has excellent care for their citizens. Ask them yourself...they wouldn't trade their system for ours under ANY circumstances. In fact, millions of Americans travel outside the US for treatment their HMO's deny coverage for. Not to mention the millions more who travel to Canada and Mexico for their prescriptions each year.
7 :
Mexico? Alaska? wait.. that is still America
8 :
They will still get it for free here, cause will will kick our senior citizens to the curb like O's hospital does now to the homeless.
9 :
Doctors are all ready talking about fleeing to the Caribbean Island countries to treat their American patients.
10 :
I'm not sure where you're getting your "facts" from, but you should probably do some real research. I'm heading to Canada next week for business. I'm going to ask as many people what they think of their health care. I'm sure I'll get a better answer than the lies I keep hearing from the right.
11 :
They will stay in Canada...haven't you heard...the day before BO waved the white flag Canada said they are considering privatized health care insurance as their system is imploding and it can't go on. It is THAT BAD! Maybe the socialists in this country can go up there now and use their health care before it is gone. I would hope this would tell those that believe in socialism that it DOES NOT WORK IN OTHER COUNTRIES...so it WILL NOT WORK HERE EITHER! But we still have those that like that long drink of koolaide. It just is taking longer in some to realize that they are dying out Yesterday's news..... As President Obama and his Democrat-controlled Congress try to force healthcare reform on an American population largely pleased with the current system, our neighbors to the north are actually considering improving their structure by -- wait for it!!! -- welcoming additional competition from private insurers. I kid you not. Within hours of the Obama administration saying that it might consider a reform package without a government option, the Canadian Press inconveniently reported the following: Story Continues Below Ad รข†“ The incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association says this country's health-care system is sick and doctors need to develop a plan to cure it. Dr. Anne Doig says patients are getting less than optimal care and she adds that physicians from across the country - who will gather in Saskatoon on Sunday for their annual meeting - recognize that changes must be made. "We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize," Doing said in an interview with The Canadian Press. [...] [Dr. Robert Ouellet, the current president of the CMA] has been saying since his return that "a health-care revolution has passed us by," that it's possible to make wait lists disappear while maintaining universal coverage and "that competition should be welcomed, not feared." In other words, Ouellet believes there could be a role for private health-care delivery within the public system. Oh my! Canada's government-run healthcare system is in a state of disarray, so much so that they're considering increasing competition by allowing folks to buy private insurance. That'll surely help Obama's cause! But here's the money quote: "(Canadians) have to understand that the system that we have right now - if it keeps on going without change - is not sustainable," said Doig. "They have to look at the evidence that's being presented and will be presented at (the meeting) and realize what Canada's doctors are trying to tell you, that you can get better care than what you're getting and we all have to participate in the discussion around how do we do that and of course how do we pay for it." It's going to be absolutely delicious to see how this gets reported by Obama-loving media in the next 24 hours. Stay tuned.

The government isn't going to own the cancer treatment centers, how would a public option effect cancer treatment center? It won't. What stupid question. The questions are getting stupider and stupider.
13 :
MEDICAL TOURISM Medical tourism can be broadly defined as provision of 'cost effective' private medical care in collaboration with the tourism industry for patients needing surgical and other forms of specialized treatment. This process is being facilitated by the corporate sector involved in medical care as well as the tourism industry - both private and public. Medical tourism refers to traveling to other countries to obtain medical, dental, and surgical treatment. At the same time they could also tour, and fully experience the attractions of the countries they visit. Exorbitant costs of healthcare in industrialized nations, ease and affordability of international travel, favorable currency exchange rates in the global economy, rapidly improving technology and standards of care in many countries of the world, and most importantly proven safety of healthcare in select foreign nations have all led to the rise of medical tourism. More and more people are traveling abroad as an affordable, enjoyable, and safe alternative to having treatment in their home countries.
14 :
some where in canada if the gov has time and its not to much money
15 :
Hope your talking facts here.. Or...are you talking about maybe one or two isolated stories. If you go to canada and get sick, you'll get treated for free If a canadian comes here and gets sick they get charged, leave without paying the bill, and you pick up the tab because your such a good tax paying US citizen
16 :
No one is advocating abolition of private insurance. The current debate over health care is about whether or not there should be a public option.
17 :
They'll have to pay cash like the rest of us.
18 :
To Cuba - don't you know that they already have better health care than America??? Michael Moore said so, so it must be true!

Why didn't Ted Kennedy go out of the US for his cancer treatment

Because he is rich enough to bring doctors to him from anywhere in the world. Duh. Are you under the impression that the purpose of the health care proposals is to improve health care for people who are already as rich as Ted Kennedy? Really?
2 :
We're ranked so low because so many people can not AFFORD the health care. Try again.
3 :
Who cares, I just want to hear of his fat drunk self finally going to burn in hell with his gangster dad.
4 :
he drinks to much and is too old. they would not have taken him
5 :
For those who have top-tier health insurance, such as Senators and Kennedys, we have the best care.
6 :
pay no attention to the man behind the green curtain! MOM said to her children do as I ask not as I do. We are headed for a Nanny State folks!
7 :
Because he is a Democrat and hypocrisy is in their genes.
8 :
I was hoping Costa Rica since the WHO has them ranked higher than the US.
9 :
Because Kennedy has gov't healthcare. Stupid question.
10 :
Apparently he felt he would receive adequate care right here. Maybe his TAX PAYER PROVIDED insurance doesn't cover Canadian facilities.
11 :
Congress has the best insurance in the world. We can afford the best for our senators. That's why they're exempting themselves form "our" plan.
12 :
We are ranked so low precisely because we do have free health care for the near indigent. They will buy beer and lottery tickets rather than health insurance and so get no health care other than the emergency room where they blithely go for everything from common colds to DOA drug overdoses and broken backs. Ted Kennedy did not go to an emergency room for cancer treatment nor did he use the emergency system to try and save Mary Jo Kopechne.
13 :
Because he didn't have to? Healthcare in the US is great - if you are independantly wealthy! It's the people who don't have any insurance at all (30-40 million at least) that makes the USA seem more like a third world country than a developed nation.
14 :
I was hoping Cuba's doctors could perform it on him. That would make one dead socialist senator.
15 :
You are mistaken as usual. The US is on the cutting edge of technology but many Americans don't have access to that technology so they just die.
16 :
Ted "Do as I say, not as I Do" Kennedy is an arrogant elitist, who derived his wealth from the blood money, earned illegally by his Irish gangster father, Joe Kennedy. Ted is a typical "limousine liberal" who has one set of rules for himself and another for everyone else, would never eat from the same plate, he is trying to force down the throat of others. Socialized medicine is simply a stepping stone towards full blown socialism, which is the real agenda of liberals. Why else would they support trial lawyers who exponentially increase the cost of health care with frivolous law suits, the cost of malpractice insurance, the crazy jury awards, the needless operations, tests and procedures forced on patients by doctors and hospitals who live in fear of the predator- trial lawyers. Yup, Teddy and his elitist pals want to break the back of the health care industry by demonizing capitalism- drug companies & insurance companies, who are blamed for everything, so they can impose socialized medicine on us all. God help us!
17 :
He could be in a comma and do about the same at his job. Our system is better, that is why with his brain bouncing in his skull he can still function. He got the red pill
18 :
I WISH he had then we would have one less JACKASS in Washington
19 :
Its amazing that bloated carcass has lived this long, he has drank a river of booze, snorted a boatload of cocaine, lived off of other's earnings, never earned his own way in life. He bought his way out of prison after committing felony manslaughter. His legacy will be increasing minimum wage for high school students. Teddy is an elitist and will always place himself above the level he forces upon you and I. May the devil claim his son, sooner than later!
