Can the Keratin treatment cause cancer

Can the Keratin treatment cause cancer?
I got the keratin treatment in March and it contained as one of the ingredients 5% formaldehyde which is said to cause cancer. When I was getting it done I didn't know about containing formaldehyde and that it can cause cancer until I did some research about it. What are the chances of a person getting cancer from having the keratin treatment done with 5% formaldehyde?

Keratin treatment is not a risk factor for any cancer I am aware of. What kind of cancer are you referring to?

How long a person can survive with mouth cancer without Any treatment?

Any cancer not treated will not survive once it starts to spread. As far as how long no one can give you an exact time.
2 :
A lot less time than they will survive with treatment. This is a question better addressed by your treating Dr who kniows exactly what you are dealing with.

Cervical Cancer Treatment Cost

Cervical Cancer Treatment Cost?
My mother is about to start cervical cancer treatment (stage II) in California. She doesn't live here, so she is a "self-pay" patient. The treatment, according to the hospital, will cost about $55,000, for six weekly Cisplatin infusions, 25 external and five internal radiation sessions. Can anyone give me a sense whether this number makes sense? It is extremely hard to determine real cost/price for a hospital...any help would be greatly appreciated!

That sounds about right. Its difficult to explain costs. Depending if she has to have an IV that costs money then the meds cost money too having the nurse there too costs money just in case something goes wrong. Medicine isn't cheap. My tonsillectomy cost me well over $1,000 I have forgotten the exact price.
2 :
I went through this same regimen 2 1/2 years ago and I can tell you that $55,000 sounds like a bargain. I stopped counting at $100,000 - fortunately we have good insurance. Please, please, please have your mom get a second, third or fourth opinion on the internal radiation. I stopped them at two and demanded a hysterectomy instead. Those two caused permanent damage to my surrounding organs - I truly believe that if I had had the recommended five I would be dead by now. As it is I will never be the same. A year and a half after my cancer treatment ended I had 80 hyperbaric oxygen treatments to partially heal the radiation damage, then got severe cataracts from the oxygen, which then required lens implants. It's been a downward spiral since those treatments. The doctors warned me about possible damage, but brushed it off as unlikely and easily fixed. Not true! I'm not saying she shouldn't have them - just question, question, question, research, research, research and then make an informed choice. And she should never forget that she is ultimately the one in charge of her treatment decisions. It's easy to get caught up the medical machine and just let the Drs. call all the shots. After the first few weeks I told all of my Drs "You advise, I decide." On a positive note, I came through the chemo with no nausea even though it's a well-known side effect of cisplatin. The anti-nausea drugs they have now are very effective (Emend in particular). And I never lost my hair. My major problem during treatment was extreme fatigue and weakness; the problems relating to the radiation didn't show up for six months. Good luck and I wish you and your mom the best...

Does getting a root canal treatment cause breast cancer

Does getting a root canal treatment cause breast cancer?
I am very scared right now... If so true, what are the chances that people who get root canal treatment get cancer? Is it a definite fact that I will get it so...? I read some sites that told me that it does cause breast cancer... but i'm not sure if I should trust it so... Please help me understand so if so it causes breast cancer I can prepare..

Seriously, you read a site that actually said that??? I bet more people get root canals than get breast cancer. Please tell me you don't ACTUALLY believe that statement... Lo_Mcg, I know who you are referring to.. He claims that dental fillings cause cancer and eating many foods do to because it rots in your stomach, never to be digested and passed along. lol
2 :
I have no idea how the two are possibly related! I have had both but neither my sister or mother who both had breast cancer ever had a root canal. Add: I just found the rather bizzare site that links them - they claim the 2 occur on the same side. Sorry but my root canal and breast cancer are on opposite sides so I still don't fit with their theory.
3 :
The sites you looked at were not reputable and reliable cancer information sites. Look at the website of any reputable and respected breast cancer charity or information site, such as http://www.breastcancer.org or http://www.breastcancercare.org.uk you won't find root canal treatments or any other dental work listed as a risk factor on any of them I have seen this bizarre theory before, but only from the lunatic fringe of YA's Alternative Medicine section.
4 :
NO. It is a myth. Talk to any Oncologist.
5 :
No Of course Not!! A Root Canal has Nothing to do with Breast Cancer! Don't believe all the crap you read on the internet! You Do NOT Need to prepare. Just take care of your tooth.
6 :
Wow... no.
7 :
That is sheer lunacy! Something worthy of; www.snopes.com. I've heard some crazy things before but that takes the cake!! Here are some reputable sites for good information; http://www.webmd.com. http://www.cancer.gov. http://www.cancer.org. http://www.cancer.ca. http://www.uhn.ca.

Pregnancy and Cervical Cancer Treatment

Pregnancy and Cervical Cancer Treatment?
I have just been treated for cervical cancer and had the cells burnt off, while it came back and they found the cancer in the gland near my cervix, so they did radiation treatment, i have also been taking antidepressants for the last 6 months, i found out today that i am 6 weeks pregnant and my doctor and specialist have told me that it is best to terminate the pregnancy as the radiation and tablets can cause some serious birth defects, im devastated and wanting to know what other people think i should do, Any advice would be great thanks

I'm very sorry you're having to deal with this sort of thing. If it were me, I'd follow your Dr's advice & terminate the pregnancy. He's right..the radiation & other medications can seriously harm the baby; which isn't something you want. You may not like what I'm about to suggest to you further. If you've had cervical cells burnt off because of cancer, then it was discovered there was cancer in the glad near the cervix, WHY not ask your Dr. about having a hysterectomy. Certainly, this will prevent you from having children, but at least the risk to your life will be greatly lessened. You didn't say how old you are, & the Dr. may take that into consideration when discussing hysterecomy, BUT I'd never want to deal with cancer treatments if I didn't have to.
2 :
-Reading books about conception will relieve you from depression about child
3 :
Any procedure or medication that interferes with the functioning of the testes or ovaries affects fertility. The choices made before cancer treatment begins can determine whether the patient will remain fertile after treatment. Radiation is known to damage the highly sensitive sperm and eggs. Just as chemotherapy attacks healthy cells, so does radiation. If the area needing irradiation is the pelvis, the reproductive organs are at great risk of damage. When radiation is done to the pelvic area, women often experience a pause in menstruation, along with other symptoms of menopause. There may also be vaginal dryness, itching, and burning. Radiation may affect sexual desire as well. These changes may be temporary or permanent, and it may take up to a few years to determine if the effects were temporary or permanent. Since radiation can be harmful to the fetus, pregnancy during radiation therapy is contraindicated, and because the full effect of the radiation on fertility cannot be predicted. So, in your case it is highly recommended to terminate the pregnancy. I do not think there is any chance to save the pregnancy not to speak of other shortcomings and difficulties. Please do as advised by your doctor and do not worry or get depressed. If everything goes on alright you will get pregnant again and have a child depending on the severity of cancer and radiation treatment given to you. Best of luck. -

What is the treatment for colon cancer that was removed 5 years ago but has returned in the lung

What is the treatment for colon cancer that was removed 5 years ago but has returned in the lung?
The patient is 93 years old. The doctor has declined to do another colonoscopy but did an endoscopy and whole body bone scan which came back negative. I'm frustrated because she is my mother and they seem to think her case is hopeless.

I donĂ¢€™t know what the point of another colonoscopy would be. Is she having bowel problems? The standard treatment, if she wants it, is more chemo, but at 93 years of age why would you want to put her through that for a few more months of life? If her lung mets are causing her problems they could do some radiation to relieve the symptoms. At stage 4 her cancer is not curable.
2 :
the cancer has already metastasized. there might have been a few cancer cells that escaped from and became resistant to the treatment. im really sorry :((
3 :
Now you need to talk with the hospice people and focus on her comfort. Don't stress her out with more cancer treatments. Make her last months happy and comfortable.
