Well, my aunt recently passed after a long long battle with this cancer. I honestly dont know of any doctors or hostpitals as she was in ohio, but be persistent with them and don't settle for anything less than what you are asking them to do. My aunt was told she didnt have cancer and she got mixed test results...and then by the time she found out that she had it, it was already stage four. I hope you're catching it early and I wish her the best of luck...

city of hope national hospital is the best!!!! I had chemo, radiation n surgery there 4 a cancer the doc's @ usc thought would kill me n 2 months. There are studies about our science at the University of CA, Irvine and at Berkeley. Whoever you go to make sure that Doctor knows about glyconutrients. Doctors that graduated after 1996 have been trained in this or have knowledge about the science of glycobiology. God Bless I wish I knew this before my Grandmother died.

how long does the treatment for ovarian cancer normally take

how long does the treatment for ovarian cancer normally take?
i just want to know what is the normal time of a treatment...months, years?

1 :
I know its not what your looking for, but there is no definitive answer, depends upon how widespread the cancer is when diagnosed (the cancer stage), as well as the type and grade of cancer. Only a doctor would be able to diagnose that, I'm sorry but its the truth.
2 :
Ovarian Cancer treatment like any cancer will be variable depending on stage and grade. First round chemo will usually be 6 or 8 rounds - 3 weeks apart. This usually is after you have recovered from the initial debulking surgical procedure. It is VERY important that this be done by a gyn oncologist. (Not just a gynecologist for the best procedure/best prognosis.) Depending on how the woman does with chemo, many times it is months or years before any more chemo is done - if ever. If caught early, and you respond well, it may just be the only time you ever need chemo. Good luck! Ovarian Cancer Survivor
3 :
If you are lucky, you will have 6 treatments, 3 weeks apart, of chemotherapy, before or after surgery. Some ovarian cancer patients, if the tumor is large, have chemo to shrink the tumor and then chemo. I had ovarian cancer in 2005 and had a hysterectomy, followed by 6 chemo treatments, starting 6 weeks after surgery. My surgery was in March and I was finished with chemo in mid-September. This was a best-case scenario but, because ovarian cancer tends to recur, I see my oncologist every 4 months, have a bloodtest to check my CA125 markers before each visit and a CTscan probably twice a year. If I continue without recurrence, the time between visits will be gradually lengthened.
4 :
1) surgery for organ removal 2) pathology report to determine at which stage the cancer was found and removed 3) possibly HRT - hormone replacement therapy - for the immediate menopausal symptoms 4) the oncologist surgeon and the oncologist are the best to determine the length of time for subsequent treatment - usally chemo and its duration 5) each case is different, there are no hard and fast follow these rules to follow 6) fequent CA125 lab works to be sure the marker is falling - but not all ovarian cancers will show with a CA125 blood test. 7) annual mri or cat of the abdomen to check for recurrance
5 :
Usually, there are 6 to 8 chemo treatments (first line, normally carboplatin alone or in combination with paclitaxel), in 20 days intervals. So about 5 to 6 months. But before each treatment, there should be a blood test to measure the ovarian cancer marker (CA125, if it is expressed in your case). If this marker goes under a specified threshold, the treatments are stopped are you are considered in remission.

looking for feed back on cancer treatment center of America

looking for feed back on cancer treatment center of America?
my wife is looking into going for treatmen (ovarian cancer )

Go to something all natural and organic. Expensive but you will live.
2 :
CTCofA are for-profit treatment centers- not a problem as long as you have the money/insurance. They use standard treatment options combined with alternative treatments (some proven, some not) but all paid for of course. If your wife goes for consultation, I would tell her the same thing as anyone going anywhere- feel free to get a second opinion to be sure of the recommendations. God bless, best wishes
3 :
The thing the Cancer Treatment Centers of America has over other facilities is their ability to commercialize their facility and make it seem like they do something the rest of the hospitals and cancer treatment centers are not doing which is not correct. They make it sound like they have some kind of miracle cure up their sleeve and if you watch the fine print during the commercials they put on TV you will see a little glitch that says "do not expect to obtain these results" The Cancer Treatment Centers of America commercialize themselves well. They are not the only cancer treatment center with excellent results. They just advertise themselves very well. If you live close to their facility, I think there is no harm in seeking treatment from their facility, but if you are spending a bizzillions of dollars to travel hundreds of miles from home, then I would seek treatment closer to home. My prayers are certainly with your wife and your family. Peace and Gods Blessings and i need to add I agree with the writer below me. MD Anderson and Northwestern are excellent options. I know its very hard to decide what to do, I am praying. Live by faith.
4 :
If it was my wife I'd take her to one of the NCI comprehensive cancer centers (33 in US) and let the experts there see what they could do. This is where clinical trials are being run in case your wife is no longer curable with standard therapies. CTCA does not have any secret cures or exceptional facilities, just a very good advertising program. Their hospitals are rather puny in size compared to some of the hospitals listed here. http://cancercenters.cancer.gov/cancer_centers/cancer-centers-list.html I'd go to MD Anderson in Houston or Robert Lurie at Northwestern in Chicago or Stanford or City of Hope before I'd even think about going to CTCA. That's just my opinion. all the best to you and your wife
5 :
It seems as though the people who've answered your question so far have NOT been to CTCA as a patient and are just opposed to the fact CTCA is a for-profit company. While this is certainly true, that in itself should not be a deterrant for going to this facility for your wife's care. Most of the patient responses I've seen for CTCA have been very positive. My dad has just been diagnosed with lung cancer and the prognosis isn't good. I have been researching CTCA for several days now and have not heard or seen any bad things about the company from people who've actually gone there. The ONLY thing I have seen negatively is posts about the cost - and it is expensive - and about the FTC lawsuit back in 1998 that was about advertising, not about the care they give their patients. After doing my own research, I am trying to convince my Dad to go to CTCA, as I think this would be the best treatment for him. Good luck to you and your wife. I hope you decide to go to CTCA.

why cancer treatment businesses suggest no more than 3 bananas per day

why cancer treatment businesses suggest no more than 3 bananas per day?
or may be becuse of vit.B9 which stimulates cell growing..... it would do so with cancer cells as well
Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I didn't know that but it may be because of the potassium content and also, too many bananas can cause constipation.
2 :
It's more likely because too much potassium can throw off the electrolyte balance in your body and cause all sorts of bad things to happen. It's unlikely because of B9... potassium controls ALL sorts of cell fuctions, and if there is too much there, it's going to mess things up. Potassium has roles in your hearing, muscle contraction, etc.

What alternative treatment for liver cancer stadium 2? How long do they normally live

What alternative treatment for liver cancer stadium 2? How long do they normally live?
He is only 55 years old, but has diabetis. The cancer is only in the liver and has already blocked his right portal vein. The left one is almost blocked. So, even the chemo might not even treat it ...

Do you mean stage 2 cancer? If so, he can probably be treated though it is definetly serious. As long as it hasn't spread his chances are better. I would recommend contacting American Cancer Treatment Centers of America and get some good advice regarding treatment.

Cancer is anaerobic. Flood system with oxygen rich foods, IE fruits and vegetables only!!! Day one cleanse system with water only, three days of this good if one can stand to be without for that long. Otherwise and fruits and 100% fruit juices for the first three weeks. Then add veggies, NO processed foods or meat until cancer free. Then may add once a week only. Liver cancer most often fatal if it metastasizes. Be careful of his sugar levels with the fruit but most fruits are okay. Buy a juicer.
9 :
A definite time cannot be estimated, but my guess would be in weeks rather than months.
10 :
I can't answer this question I just lost my father to liver cancer,so I have to leave this question now

I didn't bother waiting to find out. I got a cone biopsy 16 years ago and have had no abnormality since. Honestly, it depends on the individual, there is no one correct answer, but it is not likely to improve without treatment.
2 :
Some time months to years
3 :
If it is due to HPV it can and very often does regress on its own and therefore may never progress to cancer. It may also remain the same for long periods of time. There is no way to determine when or if it will progress to cancer.
4 :
Firstly, you need to know that someone has answered your question claiming an expertise they do not have..cin 3 does NOT regress on it's own, that should tell you who i mean. I had a very abnormal smear last spring. Within 48hrs, i was having a Lletz and biopsy done. Today i was treated for further abnormal cells, but that does not answer your question. It is not ever cut and dried, and can vary from one woman to another, in all honesty, if you have CIN 3 the hospital will do all they can to get you in to remove it, and only a fool will not follow advice and get treatment

How might research into telomeres provide a treatment for cancer

How might research into telomeres provide a treatment for cancer?

Biology - 3 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Telomerases normally tack on extra "junk DNA" sequence to the end of the chromosome, so no important DNA sequences get chopped off during replication. Telomerase activity is usually higher when you're younger, and tends to decline as you age. Cancerous agents can reactivate telomerase for the purpose of immortalizing cancer cells. The addition of this 'junk' DNA to the telomeres allows the cells to continually proliferate at fairly high rates. So, research into telomeres, and how to keep cancer cells from reactivating the telomerases could lead to the ability to stop/slow proliferation of cancerous cells
2 :
Telomeres are the ends of chromosomes that are very repetitive, and seem to serve no real purpose, except for one: a cell with very short telomeres gets terminated, imploding through apoptosis. When cells divide, their telomeres get shorter, and shorter, unless they are lengthened by telomerase. If a cell mutates in a certain way, it can have the telomerase repeatedly lengthen its telomeres, therefore making it virtually immortal. Though this does not make a cell a cancer cell, it is on the way to being cancer: all cancer cells are virtually 'immortal' in this way. I hope this answers your question, at least.
3 :
Normal health cells have a set number of cell divisions that they are able to under go. This number of divisions is called the Hayflick limit. After a cell has undergone these divisions, it becomes senescent and is no longer able to divide. The timer that the cell uses to count down the number of times that a cell is capable of dividing is the telomere (more specifically, the telomere length). Every time a cell divides, its telomere becomes shorter by about 200 bases. When the telomere becomes too short the cell can no longer divide and becomes senescent. Research into telomeres can provide a treatment for cancer because cancer cells need to acquire the ability to divide forever. The way in which they do this is by finding ways to overcome senescence. This is done by finding a way to maintain long telomeres. One enzyme, telomerase, allows cancer cells and stem cells to add DNA on to their telomeres, therefore rebuild thier telomeres and giving these cells the ability to divide an infinite amout of times.By inhibiting telomerase you will force cells to undergo senscence. Cancer cells can divide an infinite amout a times. A telomerase inhibitor will put a limit on the number of times that a cancer cell can divide.

Did Ted Kennedy get medical treatment for his cancer or did he get end of life counseling first

Did Ted Kennedy get medical treatment for his cancer or did he get end of life counseling first?
I don't mean to be cold. It is a serious question. Does anyone know if he got a pill and end of life counseling or did he get the best medical treatment available?

Ask Mary Jo Kopechne.
2 :
The "best medical care available" would INCLUDE end of life counseling. Despite what the ignorant may say.
3 :
well he Roman Catholic so he got the last rights
4 :
Both.
5 :
My mom had kidney failure but she had already signed a living will so there was no dialysis. I'm sure the Kennedy's all have living wills so no end of life counseling necessary.
6 :
He's working on his own end of life plan by asking MA to change their state law so the governor can appoint his successor. They changed it when Mitt Romney was governor to require that a special election be held. Now there's a Democrat in the governor's mansion, so he wants it changed back. On a serious note, I'm sure his physician and/or attorneys have already discussed end of life decisions with him. I've had two family members die of cancer, and both of their oncologists discussed options with them when they were diagnosed as terminal. They were also advised to have their legal paperwork in order. It's actually a fairly common practice in the oncology field. Why Congress has decided that it needs to be mandated is beyond me.
7 :
They should have just done what Obama suggests...give him pain pills. No expensive treatments. Especially considering he is overweight, alcoholic, old and generally not a good risk.
