Cancer Treatment Centers between Cincinnati and Chicago

Cancer Treatment Centers between Cincinnati and Chicago?
My father was just diagnosed with liver cancer a couple of weeks ago, and it is inoperable. I am looking for any possible hope there is. Is there any good treatment centers? Is there anything he can do for himself? He is only 62 years old.

how long a cancer patient can live without receving any treatment

how long a cancer patient can live without receving any treatment?
how long a cancer patient can live without receving any treatment? how about a intestine cancer patient from phase 1 to death?

It depends on the type of cancer and the stage at which it's diagnosed. For example, liver cancer is extremely deadly - and usually only diagnosed when it's too late. Death will be in a few weeks. Bowel cancer? Usually 4-6 months. And that's with treatment. Other cancers are slow-growing, and when discovered in someone of advanced age, the doctors may recommend no treatment because of the age of the patient.
2 :
I'm sorry, but the answer would depend on the type of cancer, how advanced it is, the health of the person, and their lifestyle. Some cancers are much more dangerous than others. Some cancers might be treatable or even reversed through lifestyle changes (I admit this would be extremely rare!) or alternative treatments, or simply by miracle of unknown origin. Cancer is no longer a death sentence in this day and age. Many ways of beating cancer exist. Not all treatments are frightening anymore.
3 :
It is very difficult to predict. Some cancers are very slow-growing, and not aggressive in nature. They can take many years to progress to the point where they would start to affect other organs and precipitate a medical crisis. Other cancers are VERY progressive and can travel through the body in a very short period of time, regardless of treatment. The only way a patient can get an idea of the prognosis with no treatment is to consult his/her oncologist about the type of cancer he has.
4 :
My son had a very aggressive type of sarcoma that was known to grow within 48 hours and could double, triple in size in 28 days. So . . it would depend on how aggressive the cancer is . . but . . some aggressive cancers . . without treatment . . days or a few weeks to a month. Remember that cancer refers to the uncontrollable growth of cells . . they will grow indefinitely if left untreated .. some types grow slow (30 years or more) while other types can grow rapidly and within days overwhelm the body.

My cancer treatment at Kaiser is getting very confusing

My cancer treatment at Kaiser is getting very confusing.?
I had my tumor removed and now they say that there are some cancer cells left. Now I have 2 or 3 new doctors involved and they say conflicting things. One says to take my chemo pill now and the other says to take it WITH radiation which doesn't start for another week. I don't know what to do. I am very frustrated. anyone else experience this? also, how did you resolve it?

I'm sure you have a radiation oncologist and an oncologist. Call your md's and demand that they call each other and get this situation straightened out. If you have a GP (general practitioner) go to him and ask him to please get it straight. This is too important and you have a right to get an informed decision Where was the tumor and what chemo pill will you be taking?
2 :
Ask the oncology radiologist and go by what they say - don't listen to any other docs - the radiologist knows what to do with any nuclear medicine. Call her office and ask her (or him) not your regular doctor or your surgeon. Do it today - I can't immagine they would send you home with it unless they want you to take it soon. Stupid Kaiser - thinking they are helping people..... they just confuse everyone!

Anyone fighting breast cancer been thru treatment and prepparing for hormone therapy

Anyone fighting breast cancer been thru treatment and prepparing for hormone therapy?
I have read articles on hormone threrapy and find myself being very nieve about this treatment. My doctors have left me with so many open questions I am not sure what to do. So my real question is " what do you feel about hormone therapy or is there a natural remedy to equal the hormone drug therapy.

what?

awww..i am so sorry you are going through that! my mom had breast cancer..im not sure if she went through hormone therapy or not but i know the whole ordeal was really hard on her! good luck and keep your head up! sorry i know that didnt answer your question =/
3 :
there is no 'natural' remedy for cancer... hormone therapy WORKS...my mother-in-law had it about 10 yrs ago. She had a lumpectomy, chemo and hormone therapy. (her brown eyes turned blue, but went back to brown, after the hormones were stopped) she's been cancer free for over 10 yrs now. www.webmd.com read all you can on the subject.
4 :
Hi, I'm sorry that you are going through this as I know personally how difficult it can be. I am approaching my 4th year of Tamoxifen therapy and am very grateful to have this option for treatment (I am 4 years in remission so it appears that the Tamoxifen is working for me!) The side effects are pretty tolerable and it's in a daily pill form which is easy to manage. Depending on your age, you may be considering Arimidex which I have also heard positive things about. I know how hard it is to make these kind of decisions and my heart goes out to you. I personally make my choices based on what I can live with long term. For example, will hormone therapy give you peace of mind long term or will the potential side effects be a bigger issue for you? Your Dr. likely explained to you the positive results of hormone therapy in reducing a recurrence. That is a very important factor to consider when making your decision. There are many women who do not have hormone sensitive cancer and so the opportunity to use this therapy should not be taken lightly. I know a lot of women who have had breast cancer in all different stages and my best advice to you is to do everything you can to protect your health and your life. It is a precious gift. Good luck and god bless!!

This is unbelievable. Lung cancer victim cannot collect his $1m winnings to pay for treatment

This is unbelievable. Lung cancer victim cannot collect his $1m winnings to pay for treatment?
I've heard it all now. I'm outraged. NY state will not allow this man to collect his $1m prize (as opposed to the usual 20 year pay-out) because of "rules". He needs the money to get adequate cancer treatment and is getting the runaround. What do YOU think of this? http://www.wowozanga.com/2007/02/13/man-with-year-to-live-due-to-cancer-wins-1-million-that-could-pay-for-treatment-except-the-lottery-pays-out-over-20-years.htm BTW - this is the link to the email page of the NY Lottery Commission. Just in case you want to let them know what you think...http://www.nylottery.org/ny/nyStore/cgi-bin/contact/contact.php

The lottery corporation is not being honest. They make the rules, they can turn around and break the rules. They do it all the time for the powerball payouts, which are supposed to be over 20 years as well, but most winners take the money as a lump sum payment. Just another way for your government to screw you.
2 :
WOW! That is unbelievable!!! I couldn't even imagine having the means to find additional time on my life and with my family and being straight up denied! That poor man. I hope he can get everything figured out before it's too late. I bet if he was making a donation they would have no problem waiting a year for $50,000!
3 :
When they allow the lump sum payment, they aren't "breaking the rules" to do so. It's in the rules to allow lump sum payments. This lottery doesn't have the same rule in place. I doubt they're going out of their way to screw the guy. They're following the rules, and if you've ever tried to get a government organization to make an exception for you, no matter how good a reason you have, it never happens. I feel for the guy and hope that he can get some kind of good resolution to this. I'm surprised that he hasn't been able to get a loan collateralized by the lottery ticket. I mean, he has a guaranteed cash flow stream coming for 20 years. I can't see a reason that a bank wouldn't front him money on it, especially considering his situation.
4 :
he gets thirty a year after taxes sell the note or assign it to the hospital. what do you care. you make a big deal about what NY lottery should do yet you haven't sent this guy one thin dime.

What pain is expected without treatment of lung cancer

What pain is expected without treatment of lung cancer?
My 84 year old Mom has Stage 1B NSCLC in lower right lobe. It's 3.8 x 3.1 cm. She takes high blood pressure medication but otherwise is healthy. Without treatment, what can we expect?

She may expect chest pain, and maybe pain of the throat. There is still hope. Visit a Christian crusade or United Pentecostal Church (www.upci.org) and ask the pastors to pray for her, if it is possible to transport her to the venue. There is healing in the name of Jesus Christ. Miracles are still possible. Discuss with the doctor the best way of treatment. You may like to seek second opinion. Life expectancy may be a few months to a few years. There are also survivors of cancer. I am sorry you are going through all these. God bless you. Pray for her, if you believe.
2 :
If she doesn't get treatment it will get worse, how fast or slow is indiviually dependent. She will most likely have increased shortness of breath and possibly chest pain as the cancer worsens. If she doesn't want to do surgery, she could still do chemo, my grandmother, who was diagnosed with esophageal cancer at 82 she went through chemo and radiation instead of surgery. It's not as harsh as it used to be and she was able to tolerate it pretty well. Her plan was always as long as she could stand the therapy and it was keeping her cancer at bay she would continue. She had a great two and a half years to spend with all of us before she passed away. I'm sorry to hear about your mom's diagnosis, and as a former primary caregive I can say she will need her family around her as much as possible. Good luck to your mom and yourself and your whole family I pray you have years left instead of months, and when she does pass that it is swift and as painless as possible.
3 :
she may experience chest pain during the last stages. And problem with breathing. There is still hope with the cancer center of USA. Where they treat cancer with body mind and spirit. Pray is very powerful. If this was my mom I would attend ever healing service I read about. You'll all be in my personal prayer. Never forget God is always with you. Ps. 23 God blessing to you all.

What Cancer Treatment is Best

What Cancer Treatment is Best?
I'm doing a paper on traditional cancer treatments vs. alternative treatments vs. no treatment at all which is best in your opinion? where do you find information on things like this?
Cancer - 5 Answers

Conventional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy have been tested and proven in double-blind clinical trials. They're not perfect but we know, because they've been tested and proven, that they save many lives and prolong many, many more. Alternative treatments are treatments that have never been tested in that way, and have never been proven to be effective against any cancer. If they had been, they wouldn't be 'alternative medicine', they would just be medicine. Alternative, in this context, is just another word for unproven. Sadly, wherever there is cancer there is an unscrupulous charlatan eager to make money from desperate and vulnerable people by selling them ineffective and sometimes dangerous alternative 'cures'. No treatment at all? Barring a miracle - and you know how rare they are - that means certain prolonged and painful death. An excellent site for information on alternative treatments is http://www.quackwatch.com/ This article may be of interest: http://www.quackwatch.org/00AboutQuackwatch/altseek.html
2 :
well for prostate cancer:IMRT a type of radiation therapy, google IMRT and read all about the treatment.
3 :
While my son was going through "traditional treatment", there was a little boy who lives 4 doors down from us who was diagnoses with a brain tumor. His parents took him to my son's doctor and did not like the prognoses. It was a 50/50 chance of survival. They chose "alternative medicine".After about 6 months, I convinced the mother to please see our doctor again. They did. Unfortunately the tumor had enlarged so much, that there was now nothing they could do to save him, only help to keep him comfortable. And in my grandmothers case with breast cancer, she did nothing for approximately 3 years after being diagnosed, and then starting treatment at my mother's insistence, it was too far gone and we lost her witin a year. In my opinion, traditional is the best so far. My son was not to live through the night let alone the first 3 weeks in the hospital and 9 months of chemo treastments. It is a horrible thing to watch a family member go through, but it saved my son and has prolonged my brother life while dealing with colon cancer.
4 :
Traditional approaches have their place and surgery can be necessary. But there are lifestyle centers that have had great success in curing cancers. Google Gerson Therapy for starters. They often work with patients that have been sent home to die.
5 :
I write about cancer for the website Having Fun After Cancer (www.after-cancer.com). Every day I receive tons of email about 'alternative' therapies. So far not one has been proven. Yes, very, very occasionally someone goes into remission for no apparent reason - but for every person this happens to, hundreds more get worse - but you never hear about these. You do hear about chemo, radiotherapy etc. because although these can be horrible with their side effects, they are proven to work for the majority of cases. On after-cancer.com there is mention of books such as Trick or Treatment - which is written by reputable scientists who de-bunk most alternative treatments - in a readable and amusing way. Sadly, many people may use alternative treatments as a crutch, or because they can't face up to the conventional treatments. Verite R

I am a US citizen w/out health insurance. If I move to Canada can I get treatment for cancer

I am a US citizen w/out health insurance. If I move to Canada can I get treatment for cancer?
If I travel to Canada on a tourist visa (I am a US, not a Canadian citizen) and just go into a hospital there..will they treat me? Would they offer me full treatment for cancer (chemo, hospital stay in etc) or will they kick me out? What do they cover? this was just a case study, to see people's opinions of the uninsured..luckily it's not a real situation.

APPLY for health insurance. I don't know where you're from or where you're located but use a search engine (google, yahoo, ask.com) and do some research. Better yet go to your local department of social security and apply for health insurance there. depending on your income they can set you up with a health plan that will suit your needs.
2 :
You are not going to be eligible for treatment in Canada as you are not resident in any of the provinces and not eligible for health insurance there. Each province runs its own insurance scheme. You would not expect, in your own country to get benefits from, for example, a car insurance company that you did not have a policy with. The problem with walking in as a tourist is that you are trying to take the place of a person who is part of the provincial scheme and entitled to be treated. You will be stabilised and helped to arrange your trip home. My advice to you if you are american with no insurance is that you claim ssi disability so that you can use medicare in the US.
3 :
Since you're not a Canadian citizen they would only administer emergency care to you and only then if it really was an "emergency." They are very particular, so that idea won't work. Your best bet is to buy your own health care here in the US if you can. If you've already been diagnosed with cancer (or most anything else), then you'll need to either get covered at your job or see if you can qualify for either Medicaid or your state's "high risk pool" if they have one. Sorry, but it's not possible to do as you're suggested.
