I think if he goes to the emergency room, the docs will find him resources.
2 :
There are no 'free' cancer treatment centers . . someone will need to pay for your uncles medical care . . if he is unable to pay than the state or the government have set up programs to help with the financial costs of the poor. The hospitals oncological social worker deals with these types of issues and can advise your uncle what he should do. The ACS also provides information about where to look for help: Health Insurance and Financial Assistance for the Cancer Patient http://www.cancer.org/Treatment/FindingandPayingforTreatment/ManagingInsuranceIssues/HealthInsuranceandFinancialAssistancefortheCancerPatient/index

Would any recommend Medical Marijuana for cancer treatment

Would any recommend Medical Marijuana for cancer treatment?
My best friend just died of Brain cancer. He used medical marijuana for the pain and nausea. I witnessed it work wonders for him. I am unsure why so many are against it. I seen it help him die in much less pain than if he did not have it. I am curious why anyone would be against something that helps terminally ill people die in less pain? Why would it concern anyone enough to keep it away from those that need it and will die a more horrible death without it?

My mom has bone and liver cancer which did metasis from breast cancer she had last year. Right now as we speak she's drugged up with pain killers her dr gave her because the chemo she did last friday is very strong and her bones hurt. Eventhough her dr gave her a good prognosis I still would do anything not to see my mom feeling so bad as she is right now and if that required giving her marijuana for all means. My mom is first! =) Sorry to hear about your bestfriend!
2 :
I see no problem with this type of treatment. Anything to ease a terminally ill persons pain and discomfort should be accessible. People going through chemo and radiation should be allowed marijuana for the nausea. How are these people supposed to fight their cancer when they are weak because they cannot keep food down. The meds they give them for nausea don't work all that well. Years ago when a friend of mine was dying of cancer he used pot (illegally) and swore it was the only thing that kept him going.
3 :
It's one thing to smoke a joint because you want to act dumb and another completely to use it because of medical reasons. My aunt died 1 year ago due to brain cancer, and her husband had to sneak out to ugly parts of town to go get them for her. It helped her, a lot. I don't like the idea of sneaking out to get something that might help a patient find comfort, and do something that is aginst the law. Maybe you'd want to call the American Cancer Society 1-800-227-2345 or National Cancer Institute at 1-800-4-CANCER and find out what they recommend.
4 :
If Pfizer had spent 50 million dollars researching and developing marijuana in a lab, then had spent another million on television commercials telling you "go see your doctor, and ask for a prescription for marijuana today", then most likely people would be rushing out for a joint right now. The pharmaceutical lobby probably is one reason why it will always be illegal. Marijuana can be abused like any other drug, but the reason it's illegal is because it is cheap and works well in some situations and the pharmaceutical companies can't profit off it. Plus, there is no comparison between the negative side-effects of marijuana and those of designer drugs. If you listen to the commercials, designer drugs that are used for trivial ailments like heart burn can cause anything from heart attack and stroke to diarrhea. Commercials for designer drugs actually list many more disadvantages than they do advantages.
5 :
I would. I smoked it when I was on chemo/radiation. I had lost so much weight because I could not eat. If I did eat, I threw it up. I was constantly nauseous and in pain. When I smoked weed, I could eat and keep it down. I had tried various prescriptions but they did not work nearly as well as the marijuana. I am all for legalizing pot entirely, but especially for medical reasons. Anyone who has been miserable from chemo/radiation can appreciate that.
6 :
i'm all for it.
7 :
I don't agree with smoking marijuana to get high but when I was going through very agressive chemo in 2003 I had it a couple of times, once in a 'bong' & once as tea, apart from totally 'monging out' pmsl it got rid of my sickness for a while & was a good pain relief, (it was the only time in 6 months of chemo that I laughed, & couldn't stop) I reckon you should be able to get it on prescription under certain circumstances
8 :
My son has/had cancer and a bone marrow transplant. He did not eat well and was very nauseous. He was prescribed marijunana in a pill form (marinol) and it did help him, though he'd get kind of spacey, get the munchies, and giggle a lot. It was kind of strange giving a 4 year old drugs like that, but it was definately worth it to see my son do so much better. He isn't terminal (hopefully) so it isn't only used on final stage patients. It was very well protected at the hospital and pharmacy, but I was so glad to have it as an option for him and didn't mind jumping through all of the hoops!
9 :
my dad passed away in May with lung cancer..... i had no problems going to collect a joint from a cousin of mine and taking it to my dad.....it certainly helped him relax more, and we all had a giggle about me being his 'drug pusher'....his wife was spraying the house for days after with room freshener...she was worried sick his GP might smell it when he visited! I think if it helps a person who is terminally ill then why not! who is anyone else to deny a dying person something that may make things just a little easier!
10 :
Since I do not smoke I myself would not use it however my aunt was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at a very young age. She used it when she was in the final stages of her cancer to relieve the pain. Now grant you this was in 1983 or around that time. Also my grand father used it as well for treatment of his glaucoma as well as other health issues. He did this in the 1980's as well. If it helps and is being used for just that a true medical reason.. I dont feel it is wrong to use it however it is is being used by teens or anyone that just wants to get "HIGH" I feel it is wrong... The pain for various diseases today can be bad.. but there are also medications created to help that pain when they no longer work and the marijuana works.. i do not fault anyone for trying it for a medical purpose..
11 :
I would especially to help sleep through the night that is the biggest problem with being in pain you simply dont get any rest and marijuana helps with the pain level and causes most people to feel drowsy and makes it easier to get to that sleep level.
12 :
some doctors will give a prescription for medical marijuana, i myself don't think that there's anything wrong with it. it helps with nausea and also helps with appetite. if you have ever been through chemo you would know that everything that you eat taste awful, and you don't really have an appetite, the effects of marijuana is not as intense when you are on chemo. if there is a will all ways remember there is a way. some people continue to live in the 50's and will never change.

what do you think of those with cancer refusing medical treatment

what do you think of those with cancer refusing medical treatment?
For example, your child (of age, since you cannot control their medical decisions) decided they did not want to fight the cancer and wanted to finish the rest of their life without treatment. How would you feel? (of course you wouldn't be happy go lucky..but how would you feel about their situation) would you come to terms?

Some people refuse treatment because their cancers are very likely to be terminal, and treatment is quite painful and would make the end of the patient's life worse.
2 :
It's their decision.. if he had been exhaustingly battling for a long time but nothing has worked and his cancer was terminal.. I would understand but it would kill me to no end. After a long talk of all the things he would miss out on and how we want him here, how strong he has been through this that its not worth it to back out now. Medical treatment for cancer patients is normally very painful to go through and even then you can still die afterwards. Sometimes it's best to let them be with God so they don't have to suffer anymore.
3 :
I wouldn't have an issue with that, most treatments take such a toll on one and there is no guarantee that they will work. I view it as a personal decision that I will support.
4 :
My great-grandfather in-law battled and one against cancer when he was in his mid 50s. He stayed in remission until he was 84 years old. At 84 he was told his cancer had came back, and they wanted to do the whole treatment again chemo, radiation, etc. He said "no". Why? Because he wanted to be able to spend his remaining days WITH his family. Chemo and radiation had make him so sick when he was in his 50s that he couldn't be around his children, grandchildren or even his great grandchildren, and he didn't want to go through that again and he didn't want to put his wife and family through it again. He lived 2 more years, in those 2 years he was happy. He knew his time was coming and he used it to spend with his family like he loved doing. He died a happy man, knowing his family loved him, and knowing he didn't put them through any more hardships. Did he get sick? Yes but not nearly as bad as if he had done treatment. In his case even though he was "old" I find what he did to be courageous and selfless.
5 :
I'm sure I'd be upset that they had cancer, but it's their body, their life, and their decision if they want to seek treatment. The treatments for cancer are horrible and don't always work, so I can totally understand someone not wanting to go through that.
6 :
honestly with my child i would want them alive as long as possible BUT that being said i have had several family members find out they had cancer, they started treatment and with in 6 months usually with 4 of those 6 months spent in hospice they passed away. i would rather be comfortable at home and have my children comfortable and at home for 3 months than miserable and in the hospital for 6 months. HOWEVER that being said i luckily haven't had t o experience this with my children so i don't know what i would do unless i was in that situation.
7 :
An adult can make that decision but a child is not properly aware enough to make that decision for him/herself.
8 :
The decision not to accept treatment is a valid one under some circumstances. Consider this hypothetical situation: A person is advised that they have a form of cancer that has a very low cure rate. The treatment has a statistical chance to add one year to this person's life, thus increasing her life expectancy to two years instead of one. If there is no therapy she can live and function normally for 9-10 months without much change in her lifestyle. If she takes chemo or radiation she will be in and out of hospitals and doctors offices, sick all the time and unable to really enjoy life. We must respect the choices others make in this kind of situation. Jacqueline Onassis chose "no therapy" for her cancer and had the opportunity to really enjoy her last days. Of course if the therapy offers a real good chance for a normal life in the future, then not accepting therapy would be tantamount to suicide. I am sorry for your situation and wish you and your daughter well.
9 :
Anyone who chooses to refuse the poison, slash and burn techniques of conventional medicine may be smarter than you think. I would applaud such a decision. I can't tell you what to do but if I was in your shoes or anyone else's who thought they might have cancer I would NOT let anyone start any conventional cancer treatments on me without first reading or rereading the book, Cancer: Step Outside the Box by Ty Bollinger. Do you believe a cancer patient's right to treatment should be based on his or her ability to pay for it

Do you believe a cancer patient's right to treatment should be based on his or her ability to pay for it?
If a person is dying from cancer, but can be saved by cancer treatments, should that person's access to those treatments be based on if he or she can pay for it? (including insurance, which often isn't enough) Example answers based on past questions: "Yes, health care isn't a right" or "no, there should be universal coverage of at least major conditions"

N O. The patients ability to pay should not be the deciding factor in the decision.
2 :
What if I can't afford to pay for everybodys?
3 :
Contact the Red Cross or Salvation Army to pay your bills.
4 :
no one is stopping you from paying for it. Just don't ask me to pay for it. I have so save my money for when something bad happens to me.
5 :
It seems to be an oxymoron that some people are vehemently against abortion, but after birth, medical care depends on ability to pay for treatment.
6 :
All medical treatment is based on the patient's ability to pay for it. Doctors need to be paid too. If a doctor chooses to do charity work for you that is commendable. But the key word here is 'chooses'
7 :
Definitely treatment should be covered as part of a socialized medicine system. That said, even an excellent social healthcare system like the UK's NHS falls down on some cancer treatments. It gets nicknamed the "postcode lottery", because some healthcare trusts have more money than others, so depending on where you live, should you develop a certain type of cancer, your chances of successful treatment depend on if your local healthcare trust has the money to pay for the drugs and treatment. My home city of Manchester had a famous case with musical entrepeneur & visionary Tony Wilson; he developed liver cancer (I think), and the local healthcare trust refused to pay for the drugs that would extend his life. He had to buy it himself, at $5000 a month. Healthcare is a basic right that we should all have, regardless of means or social background.
8 :
do i want free health care, no.
9 :
Seeing these responses should make people proud not to be a conservative.

The Emergency Medicaid Cancer Treament Program is fantastic. You do need to find physicians that will take this as it is retroactive. Find a physician/Hematology-Oncology/ that is more concerned about you than your money. Some will treat with the anticipation of retroactive payment...I work for such a place in Georgia........they are wonderful....
2 :
I have been taking this wonderful health supplement that as Xanthones and tons of anti-oxidants in the product. Ever since I started taking it, it has helped my body become really healthy. I used to have a lump on my breast I was scared for my life I went to the doctor but they said it was nothing, but I still had the lump. After drinking Xango everyday 3 months later my lump is gone, I just some how disappeared. If you want more info email me. This might be that something you were looking for.
3 :
Find a Doctor you want to go to and talk to the people there. They will point you in the right direction.
4 :
i had no insurance when my lump was found...i was going to a clinic that charged you by your income. he referred me to a surgen and had all kinds of test and finally had left breast removed with no insurance. i applyed for medicaid and they went back and paid most of the bills. i live in mississippi...so i am sure you would have no problem in NY.
5 :
through your hospital they can get emergency medicaid. don't wait go now to dr. and remember medicaid will go back three months on paying bills.

how many chickens to get cancer treatment

how many chickens to get cancer treatment?
For future reference in case it happens, how many chickens would I need under the Republicans Health care reform plan to get radiation therapy for my cancer, or would HC be restricted to people who didn't vote for Obama only?

The rules are unclear at this time...Obama is setting up a "Chicken Czar" to oversee the program.
2 :
If the GOP had their way, as many as they wanted. But it would not matter and the insurance companies would still be allowed to use death panels to deny treatment. FACT - Insurance companies in the USA admit to pushing up prices, buying politicians and not paying out claims when they should [1] FACT - PER PERSON the USA spends more on healthcare than any other nation on the planet [2] FACT - Obama debated his plans before the election for healthcare [3] FACT - the chance of a child under five of dying in the USA is greater than industrialised nations with universal health coverage [4] FACT - Obama was elected to bring in change [5] FACT - Obama wants to stop insurance companies from screwing America [6] FACT - The reforms Obama wants work in the Netherlands and Switzerland [7] Let me know if my facts are wrong, but please provide proof.

I need to post a complaint about a hospital/cancer treatment program. Yahoo newsletters, websites, anything?
Due to mistreatment and neglect in the best cancer treatment program of the country, my dad passed away. I need to let people know what has gone one in our case so that they think twice before choosing an institution where they will be treated for cancer. More specifically, multiple myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer.

I'm so sorry about your Dad. I just lost mine last month of the same thing. He was 81 and developed many complications, as many do. I also know healthcare is not all it's cracked up to be these days. The only thing I can suggest is writing a letter to the editor, but before I did that I would request a copy of his medical records from the hospital he was treated at. Perhaps he also had complications? You can always have a medical lawyer look over the records too. Are you in charge of his estate? If not, your mom or whoever is in charge will have to request the records, as they will have to provide documentation of such. Good luck to you.

pole sana my grandfather had prostate cancer and he was supposed to get an operation in Nairobi but the waiting list was too long so he chose to go get the operation done in India. They also have better doctors in India. I know a couple of organizations that can help you and your father pay for the medicine or for the operation if needed. Send me an email and I will try to get you a list of organizations and contacts jordanroxs911@yahoo.com
