can someone explain Cancer treatment in cellular lvls

can someone explain Cancer treatment in cellular lvls?
A common 'therapeutic' strategy for the treatment of cancers is to use chemicals that inhibit the polymerization/depolymerization of microtublules. What specific process involving microtublules is being targeted by this strategy? Hypothesize as to why such "treatment" is also dangerous for non cancerous cells

What are the side effect of cancer treatment

What are the side effect of cancer treatment?
My mother in law was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and has already started chemotherapy, what side effects should we anticipate in order to better help her on an up coming family visit?

It depends on the chemo, but can include nausea/vomiting, achy feet and legs, mood swings, gain or loss of appetite, numbness in the fingers, constipation, itchiness and hair loss.
2 :
Well hair loss will obviously be the most obvious one. Others probably depend on the person. When my mum had it, she was really physically sick a lot, very tired after the treatment, sometimes for 1-2days after. Also, you limbs can hurt and just a general groggy feeling.
3 :
Side effects have already been described by the other posters. However one should remember, that it is possible to go through chemotherapy and recover completely. A personal account of this is described at http://anaximperator.wordpress.com/about-you/
4 :
The best "side effect" of chemotherapy is 'not dieing', most of the unpleasant ones (nausea, hair loss, etc.) seem kind of meaningless in light of that! Stay positive with your Mom-In-Law, forgive her whatever you need to, and remain honest and realistic about her situation. Having a brain tumor today is a million times preferable to having a brain tumor 100 years ago, or even 50 or 20 years ago... Best wishes to her
5 :
It really depends on the type(s) of chemo she is getting. While some drugs have similar side effects, each drug can have its own side effects as well. You need to talk to the MD and Nurses who are resposible for her chemo treatments. They should be able to help your mother in law with management of the side effects. hope all goes well

What does the lady in the Cancer Treatment Centers of America commercial mean when she says,"It's like the doc

What does the lady in the Cancer Treatment Centers of America commercial mean when she says,"It's like the doc?
She says,"It's like the doctor was telling me to go to the store". Sorry I can't find a video of it. Is she saying the doctor wants her to go home and die or that he wants her to go to the store and get some over the counter medicine for Cancer since there's nothing they can do? Just seems strange.

She is trying to reference his nonchalant way of telling her the news.
2 :
I haven't seen that ad. I wish there were a center closer than Philadelphia for my husband.
3 :
What the CTCA does not say in their commercial is that they turn patients away who they feel they can't treat successfully . . they do this in order to make the claim about their success rates with cancer. They don't accept everyone. They are a private business that treats only certain patients that meet their criteria. They are in the cancer business. I know a young woman who used both complementary and traditional treatments and had enough money to go to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. She had advanced abdominal sarcoma and they turned her away.

My wife, my sister in law and I are going to Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, India. Please, advise where we can be accommodated for 5 to 6 weeks while my sister in law is treated a cancer (radio and chemotherapy). We're looking for either a flat with 1 or 2 rooms or 2 rooms in a safe, clean and affordable hotel, near TMC. Thank you so much.

Is refusing cancer treatment a sin

Is refusing cancer treatment a sin?
If someone found out they have cancer, but refuses treatment because of the harm full side effects and low survival rates, would that be considered suicide of sin? How about if you had no money to pay for treatment at all, because you would end up on the streets?

1 :
Jesus advocated universal single payer healthcare.
2 :
No, refusing cancer treatment is not a sin. There are reasons that are valid like the ones you mentioned.
3 :
If you don't want to accept treatment that's up to you its your life. Stop concerning yourself about 'sin', there is no such thing.
4 :
Basically, no, but it might depend on factors. If you had very early stage cancer and the treatment would not last long, and probably work; but if you refused you would eventually die, then I'm not sure. If you were in an advanced stage and treatments would only prolong your life, not save it, then I would say maybe not. It is sad that there are people who would feel the last one was an option, but many without health care are like that. It is one reason that the health care reform was advocated by many people. I think if you just flat out refused any treatment in the early stages, it might be construed as suicide by some.
5 :
I don't know that it would be considered a sin - I suppose that depends on the belief structure of the individual. However there are many alternatives to modern medicine. Herbal and holistic remedies as well as Spiritual and energy healings are quite popular as well. Is this a real situation or just a wondering? Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this further. adriennehale@thelocalwitch.com
6 :
If you refuse to have cancer treatment because you believe that God alone can heal you is not a sin I wouldnt say it is a sin if you dont want to have the treatment because you WANT to die...then that, i believe, would be a sin
7 :
Whatever is not of faith is sin, the bible says. Psalms 103:3 says just as plain, God will heal ALL of our diseases. And he also says that he will meet our needs according to his riches in glory. So, the faith Christian always has an ouit for any problem that can come his way IF he stands in faith on God's great promises.
8 :
No. To refuse treatment for yourself is not wrong. In general, if you are dying, you need not take extraordinary or troubling medical treatments. That a person wishing to have cancer treatment but being refused because of poverty is tragic; because of our market system this must be remedied by private charities or medical care for the indigent funded by government general revenue.
9 :
Take it to God in prayer. In the meantime, do whatever you can to preserve your life.
10 :
I personally don't see anything wrong with people refusing treatments for themselves, especially if the condition is terminal. It is their choice, but one must remember that God helps those who help themselves.

Does cancer make your hair fall out or treatment for cancer

Does cancer make your hair fall out or treatment for cancer?
A long time ago I heard that cancer itself does not make your hair fall out that the chemo treatment causes it. Recently I just heard that having cancer can make your hair fall out before chemo is even started. What is true?

The chemo make your hair fall out not the cancer itsself **my aunts had cancer (breast) one had just radiation and didnt lose her hair the other had chemo and lost her hair.
2 :
chemotherapy is what makes your hair fall out
3 :
Chemotherapy makes your hair fall out because it kills the fastest growing cells which is directed at cancer cells but also includes your hair cells.
4 :
the treatment
5 :
duh. the treatment
6 :
it is the chemo that makes your hair fall out because chemo kills cells to get rid of the cancer. hair falling out is a side effect because chemo cant exactly distinguish between good and bad cells and it ends up killing hair cells. i suppose that there may be a type of cancer that makes hair fall out on it's own but cancer is a tumor usually, and i have yet to hear of a cancer that does makes your hair fall out.
7 :
Chemotherapy is the cause because it does not just kill the cancer cells, it kills other ones too, and this causes the hair to fall out.
8 :
the chemotherapy
9 :
Many, but not all, chemotherapy regimes cause hair loss. Some cause hair thinning, and some don't cause hair loss at all. Radiotherapy/radiation is a localised treatment and doesn't cause hair loss unless it's to a part of the body that has hair, such as the head. Cancer doesn't cause hair loss.
10 :
chemotherapy makes your hair fall out it kills the cancer cells and ur hair cells cancer doesnt and ur hair doesnt even fall out til maybe 2 weeks after treatment starts

How is John Lester doing, pitching in the Bigs, after cancer treatment

How is John Lester doing, pitching in the Bigs, after cancer treatment?
His pitvh counts are are still very high; is there a shut down pitcher in him with his "stuff" and apparent strong mentality?

He's doing great.
2 :
He's had a few rocky patches, but for all that he's been through, he is doing very well. He should be considered a front runner for AL Comeback player of the year, though I don't know if he'll get it simply for the fact he missed the first half of the season.
3 :
he is doing great
4 :
He is doing fine.
5 :
Lester is doing as well as expected, considering he was out of the rotation for half a year, and struggled w/ cancer, but came back, and is doing as well as expected.Next season, watch out, because over the winter he is really going to work at being a better pitcher and having more control.
