Did you know that cancer treatment can cause gynaecological problems

Did you know that cancer treatment can cause gynaecological problems?
It doesn't have to a gynaecological cancer: it could be leukemia, for instance. Apparently the treatment affects the skin of the vagina and causes dryness, hence pain or discomfort during intercourse. There may be damage to fertility as well. (I heard this on ABC Radio National, Australia, today, 26/11/07).

yup can also cause your overies to temporarily shut down causing early menopause during treatment and can cause lymp nodes in the groin area to swell all the time after treatment
2 :
oh, that's just great isn't it? Get treated for one thing and it screws you up even more..
3 :
radiation treatment often causes redness, drying, or pain. yes, there are often serious or late-term side effects of cancer treatment. they do try to minimize these, but are not often successful. sometimes in fact cancer treatment can cause a (second) cancer.

have you even known someone with cancer who actually died of cancer and not the cancer treatment

have you even known someone with cancer who actually died of cancer and not the cancer treatment?
I've lost several people to cancer, but none of them died of the actualy disease. Mainly from side affects of treatments. Your experience?

My great grandmother died of colon cancer when she was 91. She refused treatment so it must have been the cancer that killed her.
2 :
I've lost several friends to cancer. All of them stopped treatment (other than pain killers) and died of the disease.
3 :
My mom died in 2006 three days before my birthday of colon cancer She was first diagnosed in 04 did six mos of chemo when they thought she was clear but re-diagnosed in nov 05 and tried a different course of chemo but stopped after three treatments because it had spread to her brain and lungs by then It was devastating to watch her suffer and it still affects me

My friend died he was 16

No. And most of the survivors I know that went the conventional route are going to have pain for the rest of their lives from peripheral neuropathy. Some of them suffered heart damage, and even brain dmage as well from the therapy. My 36 year old cousin is on Fentanyl, the pain is so bad. And she will never be able to practice nursing again. She's damned lucky to be able to take care of her hygeine in the toilets by herself, because of the nerve damage. And that's two years after completing cancer treatment. She also has heart damage, and is only now starting to recover her short term memory. EDIT: Apparently some folks don't realize that chemotherapy does indeed kill ALOT of people. In fact, all oncologists worth their salt know that conventional cancer treatments kill more people than they cure, in the end. Hospice does indeed give a last megadose to the relative of the patient to administer when their disease has been labeled terminal and hopeless by the doctor, and the pain and suffering has become absolutely unbearable. I have seen this myself with my aunt. (She had Lou Gehrigs' disease.) And the purpose of that megadose is to end the life of the patient, of course. But i'm pretty sure you weren't referring to what hospice does.
6 :
I understand your question. By the time the cancer progresses to an advanced stage, it has spread to all the major organs. When it hits the liver or the lungs or the immune system, it just keeps spreading and spreading. It is a horrendous disease. Then it just becomes so painful. The doctors start giving the patient morphine to ease the pain. The morphine ends up killing the patient. It's euthanasia. We shoot horses to put them out of their misery. Doctors give morphine to make the transition from life to death bearable. It's all legal and clean but it's really the same as what Dr. Kevorkian did. The transition from life to death is mysterious, Isn't it.
7 :
My uncle and grandfather had both stopped treatment and were only on pain killers when they died. Both from esophageal cancer.
8 :
My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1985, given 5% odds of surviving as long as 5 years. She had the surgery, chemo, radiation, beat the odds and recovered. About ten years later, she had uterine cancer, and again did the surgery and radiation, and recovered. Twenty years after its first occurrence, the lung cancer reappeared. It had metastasized, so was inoperable. Chemo and radiation gave her a decent six months more, then she decided enough was enough, stopped treatment. So, yes she did die of the cancer itself, eventually, and after having had heroic bouts of treatment. My mom was one heckuva fighter, she died a year ago and I miss her!
9 :
My aunt and uncle both stopped treatment and were beyond the side effects when they died. My aunt will die of her cancer. I almost died a couple times but both times it was from the side effects (primarily the low white blood count and infection) The primary listed cause of death never is the cancer. It is always something like cardiac arrest, lung failure/suffocation/dry drowning, renal failure, infection or over dose no matter if it is the treatment or the cacner
10 :
It is untrue to say, as someone has, that treatment kills more people than it cures. Current conventional treatments are far from perfect, but we know - because they have been tested and proven in double-blind clinical trials - that they save many lives and extend many many more. I have lost several people to cancer; none of them have died from effects of the treatment. There is certainly a risk with chemotherapy of another cancer developing, but it is very rare. Through support groups and online support groups I have talked to several hundred people who have had chemotherapy and only one has developed another cancer that MAY be as a result of chemo. I myself am fit and well over four years after being diagnosed with stage 3 grade 3 cancer; I had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. The story that treatment kills more than it cures is spread on this board by people who, without exception, have not had cancer themselves.
11 :
I'm lucky. The only person I know had cancer had it operated on, removed and is doing fine. She is only 9, though and I think most childhood cancers are successfully treated.
12 :
I understand you are angry. I don't blame you. Chemotherapy for many widespread, non-Lance Armstrong, malignancies is toxic, and for many types of advanced cancer it does not provide a cure. I spent 20 years fighting the many types of cancer as a medical oncologist/hematologist. Much of my time I spent trying to talk people out of taking chemotherapy which had never produced a cure for their specific disease type and could cause more harm than good. Many people refused to accept that simpler symptomatic and supportive treatment would be better. Not many people in the USA accept death as an option, even though death will be the result no matter what option they choose. Some oncology specialists grow tired of trying to explain this to people and simply recommend treatment knowing that people or their families will insist upon it and knowing that it will most likely fail. We need better treatments to be sure, but most patients do not die from the side effects of the treatment. They die from the ineffectiveness of the treatment. A patient with an unresponsive malignancy dies from the cancer AND is also weakened by chemotherapy treatments which are not working. The most difficult part is convincing people to stop taking therapy. They often become angry - or their family members become angry. They think the doctor is giving up. This will be the case until we have more effective and less toxic treatments and patients become willing to accept that there are diseases that doctors cannot cure. I've had family members of a 96 year old woman angry with me for recommending no chemotherapy for an advanced cancer that has never been curable by chemotherapy. It is often a no win situation - damned if you do and damned if you don't try treatment. That is one reason I retired early and moved on to teach college history. Anger is a recognized part of the grief process.
13 :
My uncle, a good friend and a co worker's daughter all died from cancer and not from the treatment. Sometimes medican intervention isn't enough to stop the cancer and sometimes the treatment is too toxic for the body to tolerate.
14 :
Here's my experience: My father was diagnosed in 2000 with metastatic prostate cancer. He received hormone therapy (lupron depot and casodex) for seven years. Unfortunately, in Sept. 2007 an MRI/Bone Scan revealed that he cancer had spread throughout his body. He oncologist said he could "try" chemotherapy. We did, just because you don't want to get to the very end and second guess yourself for not at least trying. After several sessions it was evident that the chemotherapy was not doing any good and he stopped. I would like to thank the good doctor for his answer. I think his answer was very accurate.

There is no best treatment Cancer is classified by two scales 1-4 and 1-5 HIGHGRADE cancer is a 9 max score the type of cancer is important You cant live without a liver but you can survive with part of it maybe its too late for that option Chemo has many risks and side effects and doesn't always work used by itself Radiation kills more than Cancer risks envolve Bowel damage and other organs and possible Bladder cancer years later from the radiation You might want to look into a new experimental treatment it only applies to cancers caused by faulty gene markers a shot is given that removes all markers from genes the cancer causing defect no longer exists has other negative effects but is used where no treatment means death very soon Imagine removing the marker to block growth because your an adult and your bones are now hard there are several side effects what I saw was a case with leukemia the woman was in very advanced stage she recieved one injection 3 days later they found no leukemia signs in her blood she was 68 years old couldnt hurt to ask and get more details about what cancer type is in his liver high grade cancer wont stay there for long it likes to head for bones and marrow

The best thing to do is stay away from hospitals. Iatrogenic deaths are the leading cause of death in the US. Organic Coffee used as an enema will quickly and gently detox the liver. He will also have to undergo High Doses of Intravenous Vitamin C and Intravenous Ozone. These things will stop the withering process and give him strength to be able to eat better. Ozone has been used since the 1800's. Here are some studies and their results: http://www.rexresearch.com/ozonther/oz1indx.htm Anyone who says cancer cannot be cured is blinded by total ignorance. Research the things I mentioned for yourself. Search for studies and you will find that the major Peer-Reviewed Journals have published results. Remember - Hospitals kill more people than disease does. This was shown to be true by the National Institutes of Health. Look it up yourself. Save your Uncle from unnecessary death.
3 :
The truth is that if your uncle has advanced stage liver cancer then he is probably going to die quite soon, regardless of what hospital he is being treated in. I suggest that you value your time with him, try to make his passing easy and quit worrying about trying to find him treatment in the US. Even baseball superstar Mickey Mantle could not get additional treatment in US hospitals once his liver cancer had reached an advanced stage. http://www.hospicenet.org/html/preparing_for.html
4 :
There is NO treatment for advanced liver cancer. it is un operable and incurable. (possibly even terminal) And i was told by oncologist that liver cancer is almost always a secondary source.

This is the free alternative treatment for cancer patients. It oxygenates the cells, which in turn do their work in fighting disease more efficiently and also produce more healthy cells. You can do more research at molecule level. The principle is extra oxygen into the lungs and the exercising of the internal organs of the body builds up strong immune system. Do it and you will know from the future test results. You can also do it alongside any medical treatment. Cancer hates oxygen and cannot live in a high-oxygen environment. If you want to supplement the medical treatment you receive(or not receive) with some alternative therapy then this is for you. You need to help your body to build up your immune system. The breathing exercises - pranayam is a holistic approach creating extra oxygen supply in the body and will slowly help with the health problem.Do the pranayam to see the benefits.Build up your timing slowly and after four weeks at the suggested maximum duration you will start to notice benefits gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume later. What is known: pranayam helps the body heal itself. How it works in the body is not known – but people may build their own theory. You have to do it yourself for your benefit. The small print: Keep doing pranayam after you are better for minimum 30 minutes a day for rest of life to maintain health. People who have been treated successfully, should do pranayam as well, as there is a chance of recurrence. The pranayam techniques: Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose.Duration upto 5 minutes. Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day.(Max 60 min/day) Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently. Anulom Vilom - Deep Breath-in through left nostril keeping right nostril closed then - Breath-out through right nostril keeping left nostril closed then -Deep Breath-in through right nostril keeping left nostril closed then - Breath-out through left nostril keeping right nostril closed and repeat this cycle for 20 to 30 minutes twice a day(maximum 60 min/day). Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee. Duration : 5 to 10 times Only by doing you will benefit and will feel good that you can do something to help the body.Copy and print this to improve your technique and stay focused. This is simplified pranayam for everyone and you do not have to go to classes to learn. This is for life, unlike short term classes where you do it in the class then stop when classes are over.

I need to find assistance for medical help and medications for treatment of Barrett's Esophagus cancer

I need to find assistance for medical help and medications for treatment of Barrett's Esophagus cancer?

The first place you should start is public assistance. Basically, Welfare. Because he's out of work, has 5 children should be a red flag to the state and let him get Medicaid and Welfare for his children. If they won't help. go to the blue pages of the phone book and look under your state for help. Trust me, there's more out there than you know. When my husband had 3 heart attacks at 43, we couldn't get any help. Nothing. Yes, we had insurance, but because we owned our own home, we were considered ineligible. They told us we would have to sell our home to get help and to get on disability, he would have to be out of work for a year. How fair. Gee, we always paid our taxes and everything, but when we needed the help. couldn't get it from our own stinking state. Nice huh. I wish him the best. I hope you find him some help. Just don't give up looking. Search those blue pages. That's what they're for. God bless you. I pray your son gets better..

Barrett's esophagus isn't cancer. It is known to usually develop after have GERD for years. OTC meds, like prilosec reduces the irritation from stomach acid backing up into the throat. If, by rare chance, it's turned into adenocarcinoma, he may can get public assistance. Disability approval isn't contigent upon not owning your own home. My home is only months from being paid for and I'm on disability. I wasn't asked to disclose my living conditions. Once you're approved, there's a 6 month waiting period starting at the time your condition disabled you. Nor is it contigent upon your spouse's income.

The American Cancer Society provides informatiion and links for financial assistance and health insurance for cancer patients. Another excellent resource is the oncological social worker associated either with the cancer clinic or hospital . . they usually help cancer patients get the proper forms together to apply. http://www.cancer.org/docroot/MLT/content/MLT_1x_Medical_Insurance_and_Financial_Assistance_for_the_Cancer_Patient.asp

Where can someone that has been going threw cancer treatment go to get help with there bills

Where can someone that has been going threw cancer treatment go to get help with there bills?
My sister in law was diagnosed with cancer and here job layed here of until she is done with her treatments and now can not pay here bills. Is there a place where she can get help with her bills she lives in maryland.

If her job laid her off, she needs to apply for unemployment for at least some money to help with personal finances. I have a friend whose job tried to do that to her and she got a lawyer and sued. If she has no insurance, she needs to contact financial services at the hospital. Many times, they will give a discount to self pays. They are going to max out the bills for insurance to pay. My sister works for an eye dr and that's what they do in billing.
2 :
She needs to get in touch with a local chapter of the American Cancer Society or other cancer organizations. Possibly there could be some help or type of counselors where she was diagnosed with cancer. The hospital or doctors office could have information to assist with it. I know where my wife goes there are people that can direct her to funds and resources available to her for some expenses. Fighting cancer is very expensive. My wife is fighting breast cancer and in several months expenses are over $100,000.

There is an excellent Organic Aloe Vera treatment that could fit your sister-in-law neccesity. Basically what this Aloe Vera alternative treatment does is to regenerate the immune system in order to strength the internal systems and boost the production of new and healthy cells faster than usual overcoming the spread of the cancer without fearing secondary effects. My best regards. Dr Pepito camelot_2010@yahoo.com
3 :
There are several places in Mexico that has fine cancer treatment, but it isn’t any better than it is here and you have a high risk of getting killed due to the drug cartel.
4 :
I think the treatments you have heard about may be expensive 'alternative' clinics which are not allowed to operate in the US because the treatments they offer are not proven to be in any way effective against cancer, such as the Gerson clinic. If you're tempted by any of these treatments, please do a search on http://www.quackwatch.com/ for some facts before investing money and hope in it. As a European who's had cancer, I can assure you Europe doesn't have any treatments for cancer that are not available in the US, and certainly has no cures

Tell me more about liver and lung tumors, how many types of cancer, treatment options

Tell me more about liver and lung tumors, how many types of cancer, treatment options?
My mom just found out that she has type II diabetes, 5 or 6 tumors in her liver and 5 or 6 tumors in her lungs. They did a liver biopsy on Fri. and they're doing a MRI on Monday of her brain and a bone scan and mamogram also. They also want to check her colon. Is this serious? She had cervical cancer about 18 years ago and had surgery to remove it. How many types of cancer and what are the treatment options for her condition. Thank you.
Cancer - 1 Answers

What they have found with your Mom is definitely serious, which is why they want to do all of the tests you mention. There seem to be new cancers discovered every year, so there is no simple answer as to how many cancers there are. The treatments are surgery, radiation with x-rays, and chemo-therapy. There are also alternative medicine approaches which occasionally work for cases that are not advanced.
